Did Stephen Belding (1720-1813) have two wives or just one? Ancestry says that he first married Abigail Ramsdell and , 20 years later, he married Martha Jackson. and had 5 children by her. However, The IGI says that Stephen had married a woman named Martha circa 1765. It also states that his son , Stephen, married Martha Jackson in the first week of November of that same year. Was it a common custom for the son to inherit his father's wife or is there an error somewhere? I have no info as to Martha's date and place of birth. Please help me out of my dilemma!
