Belfrys in Manitoba and Saskatchewan

Hi,

My name is Rick Taylor. I am the Great Grandson of Mary Elizabeth Taylor (Belfry). Her parents were Isaac Belfry and Christina Gillespie. Isaacs parents were Jacob Belfry and Susan Rose.
I am trying to find information on later Belfrys. The earlier ones are well documented, but from the late 1800's on it gets hazy. I believe Marys parents (Isaac and Christina) moved from the Lutterworth area of Ontario out to the Prince Albert area of Saskatchewan in the late 1800's to very early 1900. The 1901 census shows them living in Prince Albert. I believe along the way, one of their daughters, Mary, stayed in Winnipeg and married Joseph Angel Hardman Taylor, my Great grandfather.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks
Rick

Belfry Books

Thank-you Lee B.!
The book by Peter DeGuerre "A Brief History of Jacob Belfry,Sen." is a great Belfry reference for this fascinating family. Also for those interested another great reference is the book by Mary Lovering Holman "Descendents of William Sherman of Marshfield, Massachusetts" published in 1936.This reference follows the Sherman ancestry back to the original Sherman ancestors in colonial America and answers some of the questions first raised in DeGuerre's book.Great for those intersested in tracing their roots from Jacob Belfry's wife Joanna Sherman, another facinating read with neat info on an old, old group of families. Also includes some speculation concerning the Belfry ancestry.
Bruce Flewelling

Oren Belfry/Catherine Moore

I am wondering if anyone of the Belfry genealogists know if Catherine Moore,2nd wife of Oren, was the daughter of John Moore, granddaughter of Samuel Moore. Catherine was from Markham Township according to DeGuerre. I know Hiram Moore of East Gwilliambury was probably her brother or half-brother.Catherine most likley was born in Pennsylvania very shortly before the Moore family came to Upper Canada circa 1805.
Thanks for any info.
Belfry painting

I have a beautiful painting in a guilded frame with the name BELFRY on it. It is a picture of a farm house with a river running by it and a grist mill on the other side. There is a woman in the yard and trees and possibly mountains in the background. It's a very colorful painting and does not look too professional. I purchased it in an antique shop. I absolutely love it and am curious about the artist.

Belfry, Carbon County, Montana

According to the book "Names on the Face of Montana",
this town was named for Dr. William BELFRY. The town was platted in 1905.
In the 1900 census it was part of Reno Township, and I didn't spot this doctor. In later censuses
it goes by Twp & Range, never mentioning Belfry, town or doctor. In a newspaper article, I read that the town was named after Belle, a daughter of a railroader.
Are there any connections to a Dr. William BELFRY from this time period out there?
