My mother is a Bellin, one of 4 children born in Gt Yarmouth Norfolk. UK. Their father Cecil Bellin, married Lily Woods around 1936/7. Cecil had 3 siblings, Percy, Stanley, & Ada, I believe their fathers name was Arthur. The story is the Bellins from this side immigrated from Russia, or Sweden. It has been very difficult to trace any thing, beyond the info I have supplied. If you can make a connection, or come accross any interesting related info, I would be glad to hear from you.

I am related to some Rhode Island Bellins who changed their name from Belostotsky.I know virtually nothing about them, but am interested to learn more. They came from Russia (now Ukraine). I believe one of the men was married to my great great grandmother's sister (nee Nemerovsky). I think there was another related woman named Olga who moved to Moscow after living in the US. I think there was/is also a man named David Bellin (possibly Olga's brother). I have not seen any documentation of this part of the family, but have heard mention of them from my great uncle and my cousin twice removed.

I have heard conflicting stories about whether or not the Bellins are related to some other Belostotskys to whom I am more closely related. My great great grandfather Nachman Belostotsky (later changed to Nathan Bell) and his family lived in Boston. They emigrated in 1914 from Russia/Ukraine.

I have some distant relatives named Bellin who I believe live in Rhode Island. Their name was changed from Belostotsky (sometimes spelled Bialostotsky). There were other Belostotskys to whom I am more closely related, who changed their name to Bell. They lived in the Boston area. All of them came from what is now the Ukraine, but was Russia at the time.

Hi Lea, Here's the information I have. There is no one named Albert but that doesn't mean anything as there are probably lots of missing data.

Mollie Shapushnik (b. Kiev) married Elijah Gallup (b. Kiev)
Their children:
Barney
Morris
Rose
Rebecca (my great grandmother)
Lily

Lily married Hyman Bookstein
Their children:
Myron
Mollie
Henry
Isadore

Isadore married a woman named Edith
Their children:
Selma
Stanley
Edward
I have no other information on Lily and Hyman's other children

My grandmother used to boast that the Booksteins were judges. Some of them live in California now but I've never met any of them or been in touch with them.

If this is of any help, and there is a connection, I'd love to hear from you.

Robin Katz Stevens

Mildred Grosberg Bellin 1908-2008

BELLIN - Mildred Grosberg, died on Friday, February 15, 2008, in Tulsa, OK. She was born September 7, 1908, in Schenectady, NY, the eldest daughter of grocery pioneer Joseph E. Grosberg, who founded one of New York's leading supermarket chains, and Mrs. Rae Grosberg. After graduating from Schenectady High School at age 15, she entered Smith College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude (with honors), and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Soon after her 1931 marriage to Dr. Harold Bellin, of Albany, NY, she began writing a series of cookbooks for the Bloch Publishing Company of New York City. Her classic, The Jewish Cook Book has sold in all parts of the world. The 1958 revision has been updated and is still in demand. For several years, she wrote a syndicated weekly column about Jewish cooking, as well as articles for magazines such as Gourmet on the same subject. Following the death of Dr. Bellin in 1970, she moved to Tulsa where she became a volunteer for several organizations. She was particularly active in the Tulsa chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women. She remained vital throughout her 99 years and continued to live independently until a week before her death. She is survived by: a son, Richard A. Bellin of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Waldman of Scottsdale, AZ and Santa Fe, NM, 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Mildred was greatly loved and admired by all who knew her. She will be missed. Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel,

Courtesy Post

BELLIN family from Albany NY

I have a lot of information about the last 3 generations of the Bellin family back to Moshe Bellin born, (between 1838 and 1843) and died in Russia (Belarus???) married to Hannah Villip (born between the same years). Their son Abraham Bellin from Lithuania (born 1858) married Rebecca Gallup of Kiev (born 1853). He came to US in 1888, she in 1889. Many daughters married into the Levy, Champagne, Sax, Wershoff families. Gallups married into Bookstein, Rattner, Young and other unknown families. I have a lot of information on these descendants of the Bellins and Gallups. but am hitting dead ends going back further. Any help is appreciated and if you want more detailed information let me know. Another name way back is Shapushnik who I think married a Shapiro - both in Russia? Prussia? Austria-Hungary? boundaries changed too often to be sure.

Hello Paulette and Tom,

I am a little confused about Frank Bellin Jr and Amanda Schoessow. I never found them as married. I think the Freistadt book may be wrong. I see it is also wrong on the following line (John Knuth married Dorothea Sophia Wilhelmine Bellin, not Albertine.) This is what I have on Frank Bellin Jr.

married Rosalina Sophie Henrietta Prahl - 25 May 1890
- 1 son Theodore - lived in Waltham, MN, buried St. Michael's
Rosalina died 03 Jan 1892 - buried at Freistadt
married Hanna Caroline Mathilda Koepsell - about 1892
-Herman m. Alma (Wendt) Radue - buried Friestadt
-Martha died age ~25 - buried Freistadt
-Henry m. Verona Steinback - buried Friestadt
-Reinhold d. age 22 buried Freistadt
-Bernhard - m: Elenaora Steinbach - buried Freistadt
-Frieda - m: Elmer Kopp (sp?)
- not sure where buried, but SS says last in Mequon

Frank Jr. and his 2nd (last) wife are buried at Freistadt, as are all of his brothers and sisters.

Did Frank Jr. have 3 wives? Entirely possible if, as Freistadt says, he married Amanda in 1884. Then I would assume she died before 1890, but strange she isn't found in the Freistadt cemetery.

I do have an Amanda Schoessow (BORN in 1883) that married Arthur Bellin, a nephew of Frank Bellin Jr. They are also buried at Freistadt.

Not sure where the Bellin info in the blue book came from, but there is a lot wrong. Like Tom mentioned, they did not immigrate in 1839, but in 1841.

-toby

Hi Paulette,

I have not yet really focused much energy on my Bellin line. I have the same information that you have on Franz and Amanda - from the book "Freistadt and the Lutheran Immigration" - I have not researched them yet. Please keep me updated if you learn who her parents are.

My line connects through Dorothea Sophie Wilhelmine Bellin, also daughter of Michael Bellin and Dorothea Sophie Matter. She married Johann Gottfried Knuth (my GGG grandfather).

Also, you may or may not know. There were two Michael Bellins that came to the Freistadt area. The first was Michael Friedrich Bellin and his wife, Dorothea Caroline Wetzel. They emigrated in 1839 and bought 40 acres of land in the Freistadt area in Jul 1840. Shortly after Krause arrived they moved to Milwuakee. They had at least 5 children from 1840 to 1850. When Trinity-Milwaukee opened in 1846/7 they were one of the early members.

Our Michael Bellin, his wife, Dorothea Sophie Matter, six children and a brother emigrated in 1841 on the ship Franklin (same ship that pastor Krause came to America on). The ship arrived in New York on 12 Jul 1841.

So far I have only tracked Franz August, his wife and seven children through the 1880 census (living in Germantown Township). I do not know where any of this branch are buried.

Sorry, I was could not be more helpful. You can email me off line to further discuss our common ancestors.
Hello Tom,

I have Franz "Frank" Bellin B - Bet. 1862 - 1863 married to Amanda Schoessow married abt. 1884 at
Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Freistadt, Ozaukee Co., Wisconsin. What I am looking for is the parents of Amanda.

The Schoessow/ Bellin family was a long relation in my family history.

Caroline Albertine Bellin, daughter of Michael Bellin & Dorothea Sophia Matter was the 1st wife of my GGGrandfather Michael "Friedrich" Wilhelm Schoessow.
Caroline was the sister of Franz "Frank" August Bellin (wife Maria "Charlotte" Friedericke Knuth).

I have Franz "Frank" August Bellin & Maria "Charlotte" Friedericke Knuth having 7 children but I can't find buries for all of them. Most are bured at Trinity, Freistadt, Ozaukee Co, Wisconsin but not Franz "Frank" Bellin and Amanda Schoessow. Do you know where they are burried?

I also have only found 1 child of theirs, Theodore Bellin B - abt 1891. Are there any more children born to this marriage?

I would love any help you can give me.
Thanks.
Paulette

She came to America in 1849 as Blanche Emery, wife of Emile Emery. They arrived inthe port of New York. She had two children: Paul Nicholas Gabriel Emery and Blanche Jeanne Gabrielle Emery. Paul was buried at age nine as Paul Nicholas Sulpice and Blanche Gabrielle Emery married Ferdinand/Fernando Caballero in New Orleans, La.
Would like to connect to Caballeros, Emerys and Sulpice.New email is maranath@earthlink.net.

Hi Tih! Was thrilled to receive your message! Though I'm still waiting to hear back from my father, the name Rita definitely sounds familiar. I have a feeling [if I'm not mistaken] that I'm part of the 'Bookstein' clan your grandfather (?) spoke of that migrated to the New York area. Our ties to New York City- more specifically, Manhattan, are quite strong, and we've remained here for several generations. I have three older brothers, Peter (1963), Scott (1965), Jeff (1968), and myself (1970)- and it was just recently that two of my brothers moved to the suburbs, just outside NYC. My grandfathers name was Sol. My father's name is Herbert.
Unfortunately, I'm running late, and most sign off. However, I'd love to speak with you- and exchange notes (especially once I've spoken with my father- who plays the same role as your mother re family history). I was so excited when I read your message- especially the part about a recent family reunion- I had no idea there were so many of us!!!!! In fact, I'm fairly certain none of us did.
I'm not sure whether or not the site will permit it (as some don't, and they edit it out), but I intend to leave my e-mail address below, as it is easier to reach me by e-mail directly.
4/14/04

Dear Meredythe:

Believe it or naught, I just recieved the posting you wrote on 6/24/03. I'd have responded sooner.
I'm Tih (1953), I have a younger sister, Shari (1955), and brother Jay (1958). My mother- Joan Bookstein Penfil,
her sister was Rita Bookstein. Their parents were Mary and
Abraham Bookstein.
I am currently on vacation and won't be back home until the 18th. My mom is the family maven and knows much of the
family history. Last year there was a Bookstein reunion-my
mom was on the family search committee. 150 showed up
from all over, including two from Europe. The oldest living
member was in her 90's and she came from California.
Many of the Booksteins ended up in New York. My grandparents use to go visit relatives there. My grandfather
was in the furniture business as were a few of his brothers.
They immigrated from Poland.
Please email me and then we can communicate better.

Thanks, hopefully you had a good Pesach,

Tih

Hi Barb,
I have more information about the Bellin Family. The Family tree I have was done in 1991. My brother-in-law got a copy from Julie Paque. It starts with John Baptiste Bellin (abt 1812-1894). sp. Justine Dohlen (abt 1819-1884)They are Josephine's parents.
Rosalie(18 Oct 1871-4 Dec 1945) m. Alfred Joseph Paque (6 Jan 1862-21 Aug 1931).
It looks like Rosalie had 3 children, Minnie,Mary, and Maximilian (Mike). Mike seems to be the only one to have children. Barb, If you were born 10 Aug. 1960, then you are on this family tree. You probably know Julie!
Let me know if you need more info, but I'm thinking that if you know Julie, then she has more info on your line of the Bellins than I do. Deena

My father's name was Ronald Owen Bellin and his father was Edwin Bellin. Both were born in Appleton. My father had a brother, Richard and a sister, Delores. Which Bellins are you looking for? Are you an adoptee also or just looking up the family tree? If you will provide me some info, I'll see if anything matches to mine. Look forward to hearing from you.

Cindy

Just read your posting (after the fact). My grandfather's parents were from Germany also. The only info I have on my grandparent's are their names. My grandfather's full name was Edwin Herman Bellin. His father's name was August Bellin and his mother's name was Frieda (Selig) Bellin. My grandfather was born April 21, 1907. Is this info of any help?

Cindy

Re: BELLIN family from Albany NY

I don't know if I'm related; I have very limited information regarding my father's side of the family. I'm Meredythe (1970), and I have three older brothers, Peter (1963), Scott (1965), and Jeffrey (1968). My father Herbert Z. Bookstein (1940) married Anne Louise Helpern (1940). My father was the youngest child born to Sol Bookstein and Sarah (aka Shirley) Burdoff (sp.?) Bookstein. Sol had been married previously to a woman named Paula ????? Bookstein, they had two sons, Martin (193?) and Paul (193?); apparently Paula died due to complications resulting from Paul's birth. It was a few years later that my grandfather Sol married my grandmother Sarah (aka Shirley), and had my father. These Bookstein's are from the New York City area, and as far as I know have been since immigrating from Russia. I would love to hear about any information you might have. Thanks, and have a great day.

I was doing a search for ALL related bellins recently, and interestingly enough, I found Abraham and Bellin in PRUSSIA,
therefore i think that The last name Abraham, was infact married to a bellin and kept the Bellin name.
I could be wrong, but it makes sense.

Whereas I am officially not a Bellin, My husband's grandmother married a Bellin in De Pere Wi.
He was the son of Dr. Henry (JR) Bellin of whom the Bellin Hospital in Green Bay was named after.
He went into medicine due to the many family heritary illnesses of the Bellin family.
If you search also for Terrien and Worachek, you will find their charts also include parts of the Bellin history from Green Bay and Luxemburg WI. These charts also include Dr. Henry, his dad Henry from Belgium etc.

Can I also have a copy of the Dr. Bellin information? And also, does anyone have any information on a William Bellin that married a Rose or Grace Worachek? I am related to the Worachek/blahnik clan but cannot findany information on William and if he was related to my husband's family.
