I need some serious help. I am trying to track down documents which prove [or disprove, either way] Margery Bellingham was the wife of Richard Jarrett. Richard's children were Charles and Elizabeth, who married William Gray. I know his wife was Margery, but has anyone PROVEN she's Bellingham? The name appears commonly on the internet but when I try to find where it came from, I'm endlessly referred to somebody else's gedcom, some of which are now offline. I think I've seen about every gedcom and descendency report that is currently viewable on the internet. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Ann BELLINGHAM and Augustus Louis ROBERTS, early 1900s

Ann BELLINGHAM and Augustus Louis ROBERTS had a child George Bellingham ROBERTS in 1909. Were they married? I assume so, but have no evidence at this stage and have no knowledge of where it may have happened.

I do not know anything more about Ann.

Augustus Louis was my great-great-grandfather, who already had three children to his former wife, Catherine CATSON. Catherine and her children emigrated to New Zealand in the early 1900s. Augustus was in the Royal Navy. I am descended from their daughter Louisa Margaret Julia who was born in Malta in 1891.

I know of Ann and her son George from a newspaper clipping (paper unknown) held by the New Zealand-based first family of AL Roberts. The clipping talks of George Bellingham Roberts visiting his half-brother George Roberts in New Zealand, and his pending marriage to Isabella Marie FINLAYSON (which ended in divorce in 1937). With the information in the newspaper clipping I was able to track down the marriage record of George B. and Isabella.

I would love to hear from anyone who is connected to any of these names.

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard
--
Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wendyh65/

Hi,
Saw your message re Bellingham's Family Bible and wonder if you could please check a Steven Bellingham b. abt. 1735. He married Hannah about 1760 and they had three daughters, Hannah, Elizabeth and Sarah. Sarah was my Great(x4)Grandmother and she married Robert Steer in 1793. The family as far as I have found them come from Chiddingstone, Kent which is quite close to Tunbridge Wells. Any mention of them in your Bible. I would be so grateful to hear from you.
Rosemary

I don't know if anyone else has followed the Bellingham family to Ireland and Canada. I was researching the Irish Pedigrees in the book by O'Hart and found the family in Ireland at Castle Bellingham in County Louth. It is a nice country home on the County of Louth in Ireland, I am the Greatgrand daughter of William Bellingham and Sarah Gillies. from Canada if anyone has any information on them I would be greatly in your debt. I do know that two of the children were born in New York, My grandfather Neil Washington and his sister Grace. The information is very sketchy since my Grandfather left for the US to Montana to work as a cowboy at 14 yrs of age.

Hi Rebecca
The Bellingham's are still a mystery to the many researchers here in England [well our branch of Bellingham's anyway].
Richard Bellingham who married Mary Sawyer [parents of William, g.parents of Aaron, etc]
As yet no one has been able to find out anything about Richard other than he married Mary Sawyer and so on. But nothing about who his parent's and or sibling's were or where he came from / was born etc.
Some cousins have just made a breakthrough with Mary Sawyer, but this is on going as I wright.
You say you are linked via Aaron then William then Richard and Mary. Well my link to Richard and Mary is via their son also called Richard and his son another Richard and so on.
Yes I would be very interested in contact with any one who may be able to help with info of any kind on the Bellingham's inparticular but also the Sawyer's or Gorringe's and any other names that connect to the family.

Regards Merrick

I was not aware of exact dates but had learned that Richard and Mary were buried in the church at Shipbourne and last year I went to see if I could find them.
Well Shipbourne is a lovely little village and the church is small as is the graveyard. There were several dozen very old and unreadable stones that may have been Bellinghams, but the only one I could make out was a Mary Bellingham near the church door under a tree. She was not Mary Sawyer as the dates or part dates were in the 1800's but could have been a daugter or wife of one of the son's. I will have to try and get back there one day and investigate some more.
My line is through Richard brother of William and son of Richard Bellingham and Mary Sawyer.

Regards
Merrick
Ssmithme@aol.com

Hello Bonnie
You may have heard of me via Barry Kench. I am also very interested in the Bellinghams, and through several searches I have been in touch with several different branches of Bellinghams and had a lot of help along the way.
I have thus far with help got back to Richard Bellingham 1711-1799 who married Mary Sawyer. But try as we may no one it seems can get back to Richards parents or siblings.
It was suggested that his name was wrong in Northumberland!

I am not shocked by that idea as I believe that all the Bellingham clans (of the UK at least) are connected. I have no proof of this it is just a gut feeling.

My line is from Richard 1711 down through 4 other Richards a George a Lionel a Lionel Herbert and to my maturnal grandmother Ethel Elsie Bellingham b.1902 Woolwich Kent now London/Greenwich.
Do you know of Richard 1711?....Or his parents/siblings etc.
Regards Merrick

Hi,
Richard Bellingham 1711- and Mary Sawyer are my 9th? g grandparents. I have Mary as born 1700, but then dates can always be wrong. Yes I learned of the Kings bench marriage too. Do you know anything of Richard, his siblings parents etc. I have a hunch that all the Bellingham branches are connected but I can't get back past Richard or find anything else about him or his family.
Regards
Merrick

Richard Bellingham of Ma. in 1641

In 1641, the first recorded case of bestiality in New England took place. William Hackett “was found in buggery with a cow, upon the Lord’s day.” Ironically he was caught in the act by a woman who missed church that day. Approximately 18 years old, Hackett appeared before the town magistrates. He confessed to attempting the crime, but argued that he could not complete the act due to interruption. Even with lack of witnesses (two being standard), Hackett’s own testimony could not save him. The magistrates were united on the guilty verdict, but divided on the punishment. The majority of the magistrates voted in favor of execution. However, the colonial governor of Massachusetts Bay, Richard Bellingham, refused to endorse the sentence. There are no records on the grounds on which he refused or his reasoning. The deputy governor, John Endecott, differed in opinion from the governor. Endecott endorsed the death sentence. In a final act of spite or perhaps remorse upon hearing his sentence, Hackett confessed to his crime and stated that not only had he complete “this foul fact,” but had attempted “the like before, with other wickedness.” Before Hackett was executed, the cow was slaughtered in front of him and the gallows. Hackett was then hanged.

I am not related to these people, just passing on this information, which comes from an essay titled "Wickedness Breaks Forth." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://www.loyno.edu/~history/journal/1999-2000/Chehardy.htm

Thanks Steven,

I don't have record of a Bertha Bellingham in my research, but I am in contact with another McKenzie on a list for genealogy in the Bann Valley of N. Ireland. We share a Bellingham as a common ancestor and he has Bellinghams that went to Glasgow/Falkirk area in the late 1800s. Noticing that you both share a surname I thought that there might be a connection, so I sent him a link to this message thread. Hopefully there's a link between you two and me as well.

Regards,
Matt

Hello Bellinghams,

I posted long, long ago here and somehow never made it back until now.

I believe I contacted some of you regarding Bellinghams of Falkirk. I am actively researching family info in the area once again. Specifically I am trying to find burial locations for Dawson Bellingham. I have had no luck so far. If anyone has any leads on this topic I would enjoy hearing from you. Someone in Falkirk kindly searched the records in Camelon and is getting back to me on the Parish of Falkirk. I know that a few relatives were married at the Church of Scotland in Camelon and figured it might be a good bet they would be buried there, but like I said, no luck.

In addition, I am trying to find passenger list information on my Bellinghams from Ireland to Scotland in 1830s-40s and as well info on Scotland > Boston, Ma. in or around 1907.

Thank you very much and I sincerely hope this finds all Bellinghams healthy and happy!

BURNELL

In today's Chicago Tribune was an obit for Max H. Burnell, SR
who coached in the Chicago area and other places his whole life. Age 90 at death.
His son said, "born in Duluth, MN Mr. Burnell lost his father and his mother when he was about 12 (would be about 1926) and the family was living in Bellingham, WA". His son said he has never been able to find out how is paternal grandparents died.
Not related to this man but a genealogist, this caught my eye and I ask that anyone who can help resolve this problem for the family contact me and I will get the information to them here in Evanston, IL (just north of Chicago).
Go to www.chicagotribune.com and click on Obits for today's obituary which is quite lengthy.

Hi Laurel,
I will reply to you (at dallaslaure60200@yahoo.com ) in detail from my new email address - boydgray26@utvinternet.com. This response is just to make sure we do not miss each other. We are second cousins - my grandmother Margaret Ann Bellingham (1882 - 1957) was Tillie Bellingham's sister (Tillie was born in 1880). I have lots and lots of information on the Bellinghams. Your Great Great Great Grandfather was a Thomas Bellingham born circa 1760 in Culmore, near Kilrea. I also have access to a whole network of other Bellinghams descendants who are researching the same family. Some are better genealogists than me but none is more closely related to you than I am. This is an exciting discovery. I cannot wait to find out what happened to that branch of the family which disappeared to America at some point.
Regards,
Boyd

In regards to your original inquiry of a Lily Bellingham of North Sydney, Australia dated Oct 18, 2002. I know of a few individuals who are very keen on Australian Bellinghams. One is John Bellingham, his e-mail address is: jbellingham@fintec.com.au

He can probably help you better than anyone.

God bless,
Ben Campbell
