There were 4 Joseph BeLong(Bellon) Joseph #2 married Sarah peterson Williams in 1859. The name is french and there are various spellings so when researching you have to look at many different spellings. Joseph Bellon#2 was my great grandfather. If you need further information please let me know.

you may have found out most of this information by now but I will write anyway. Conrad Bouillon arrived in Lunenburg, Nova scotia(German) about 1752 on the ship Gale. The name became Bollong and most of his ancestors lived in Halifax county and the eastern shore of Nova scotia. There is a book written by Terrance Punch, called Foreign protestants.I can tell you more if you wish. However, there are another family of BeLong's that arrived in Shelburne county, Nova scotia. They were french but could have come in through Lunenburg from Adam Bouillon(French) who was listed on the ship speedwell. I have not made a link between the 2 families yet.Both men on the ship list spelled the name Bouillon. There is a momument in Lunenburg,Nova scotia with their names on it. Lynn

I looked on-line to see if there were any free birth records or baptismal records from parishes regarding your ancestral names for Shelburne/Queens, Ragged Island. Only through the Nova Scotia Vital Records you'd have to pay or with the Historical Society. The society wants search fees.

However, at their website there was a section called "Member's Search Interests" and the following person came up as doing research on surname "Belong" and looks to be a current member.

My maiden name was Belong. My great grandfathers name was Bilang but it was pronounced Belong so he changed it to Belong. So don't know if someplace down the line we are related to other Belongs.
I think he originally came from Germany.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
