Cynthia Haythe provided corrections. Dr. Humphrey BELT (17__, MD - by 1837, Powhatan Co., VA) m. 28 Nov. 1798, Granville Co., NC, Mildred C. FORD. [He's indexed BELL, & she's listed as Mildred E.]
They were of Cumberland Co., VA, in 1810, & Powhatan Co., VA, 1820 & 1830, though indexed BETT in 1830 by Ancestry. Mildred [indexed Milored by Ancestry] was back in Cumberland Co., VA, in 1850, aged 71, with sister Frances P. FORD, 65.
In 1860, Chestnut Grove, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Mildred C. BELT was still 71, with H. S. BELT, 33, & Mollie A., 23. It's possible H. S. was a late-born son but more likely grandson Humphrey Singleton BELT (25 Dec. 1825 - 27 Aug. 1888, Pittsylvania Co.) who m. 18 Oct. 1859, Mary DANIEL (10 Je. 183[7?] - 1 Mar. 1917, S. Boston, VA).
Humphrey S. BELT, b. ca. 1799? Court record shows a Humphrey S. BELT as surety for Benjamin Lloyd BELT in 1851. That couldn't have been Humphrey S., b. 1825, who graduated in 1851 from Hampden-Sydney, later the Medical College of VA, Richmond.
Horace M. BELT (ca. 1801 - 12 Mar. 1832, Cumberland Co., VA). He had received medical degree from U of PA. His & his father's intestate proceedings were administered by Hezekiah FORD, brother of Mildred [Index to Virginia Estates, 1800 - 1865, by Wesley E. PIPPENGER].
Eliza Granville BELT, m. [15/22?] Feb. 1821, Powhatan Co., VA, Richard Archer SWANN & moved to Charleston, now WV [Google "Thomas Belt Swann"].
John S. BELT, d. 6 Sep. 1827, Cumberland Co., VA. He had just received his medical degree from U. of PA.
Benjamin Lloyd BELT, m. 1830, Eleanor SHEPPARD, b. ca. 1810.
Victoria Ann BELT, m. 21 Oct. 1830, Powhatan Co., VA, John R. SWANN.

While I was Googling, I found that the salary of a more recent Humphrey S. BELT was raised from $5625 to $6950, 1 October 1954, Whitlock Branch, Lorillard Tobacco. :-)
Cynthia Googled & found Demetria BELT, d. 1832, VA, dau/o Humphrey. Who was she?
