I've been trying to find a DORSEY connection, and the only one I've found is that Mary BELT m. Greenberry DORSEY. On 6 May 1726, John BELT conveyed to his daughter Mary, in consideration of a marriage shortly to be performed between sd. Mary & Greenberry DORSEY, son of Comfort & John DORSEY, "Belt's Point," 112 acres on the south side of Patapsco River.
The John BELT who deeded to his dau. Mary was John BELT, b. ca. 1678, eldest son of Elizabeth _ & John BELT. John, b. ca. 1678, m. 10 Feb. 1701/2, Lucy LAWRENCE, dau/o Benj. That marriage, intentions, & parents' approval were recorded in the West River Quaker records. It was also recorded at All Hallows, Anne Arundel Co., MD, by disappointed clerk Joseph TILLY: married at a Quaker Meeting connivingly...which sd. Lucy was then and at the time of this registring the betrothed wife of Joseph Tilly, which accon is contrary to the law of God and man.
Greenberry DORSEY deposed in 1748, aged about 37 (b. ca. 1711?), but he must have been older to have married in 1726, so b. ca. 1706 if he married at age 20. Mary [BELT] DORSEY died before 1750, when Greenberry DORSEY m2. Mrs. Sarah [BOND?], wid/o Wm. FELL. Greenberry DORSEY m3. by 1760, Catherine, wid/o Wm. GRIMES, Fairfax Co., VA.
Mary's [BELT] DORSEY's children were
John DORSEY (ca. 1728 - 1785, per Harford Co., MD, Wills) m. 9 May 1751, Elizabeth GARDNER, d/o John
Greenberry (10 Mar. 1729/30, St. Paul's Episcopal, Balto. - 1798, per Harford Co. Wills) m1. Frances FRISBY; m2. ca. 1776, Sophia, wid/o John CLARK
Comfort DORSEY, named in grandmother Comfort's will.
Is there another DORSEY connection to account for the men named Dorsey BELT?
