Dear Kathy, Ive known of the Belton Family of fishermen for years, but not sure if I was related in any way,I was born in Findon in 1946, my father was Edward Belton, we lived in Downside Avenue in Findon. The trouble is my parents divorsed when I was about 4 years old, I have an elder sister by the name of Patricia, who lives on Shoreham beach, I now live in Portslade, the family history is very sketchy maybe my sister knows more but never mentions much, Ive not really looked into my past, by all accounts it was a messy divorse back then and its not talked about. Kind Regards Roy David Belton 62 yrs old

If you search for John Belton in the Irish Civil records http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=reco... you will find the registration of the birth of a John Belton in Longford in 1876, which would make him 22 in 1898. You'd have to apply for the birth cert to find out the parish, parents' names etc. It may be your John.

Other John Beltons registered around that time were in Mullingar, Westmeath (1874), Rathdrum, Wicklow (1878), Drogheda (1871) and some other places.

Best of luck with your search.

My great great grandfather whose name was Henry Belton emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1851 at the age of 18. He married Mary MacDonald. They settled in Jersey City, NJ. I don't know where he came from in Ireland but perhaps he is related to Henry and John Belton from Longford.

Re: Belton DNA Project

Hi, I have submitted my brother's DNA on MYFAMILYTREE so we do already have some Belton's in a Belton DNA PROJECT through MY FAMILY TREE. I would love it if some more Belton's were to submit there DNA and see if there could be a connection. My Belton line ends with my brother...although I know that my grandfather and his grandfather both had brothers who had sons, so I think there is a good chance there are relatives out there for me. My oldest known Belton is Thomas Belton who was married to Mary Turtle and I know that he had at least two sons, names Patrick Belton, and John Belton and that each of them had at least three or four sons each. I believe that Thomas and Mary Belton came from Louth Ireland (Termonfecken possibly) and that they may have migrated sometime in the late 1800's, around 1888-1890. My brother's DNA shows that we came from Irish descent and that our Irish line came from the Vikings. Hope some of you will consider joining the Family Tree DNA project and see if we connect. My Belton's lived in New Jersey, New York, and later in Indiana and California. Some went to Mississippi and I don't have any idea about the rest of the extended family.
Bonnie Belton Bryant
Price Belton and Eliza Clemenger

I am looking for the parents of Price Belton of Cavan Co., Ireland born 1810 and was a coachmaker. His wife is Eliz. Clemenger born 1822 Ireland. They had a child named John Clemenger Belton also born in Ireland. I did find a marriage in the Church of Ireland in 1839 for these two people. Any other information would be helpful. I saw a William and John Clemenger, Cavan Co,, coachmaker in an Ulster forum and wondered if this could be Eliza's parents since Price Belton was a coachmaker too.

I have never attended a large one or national one they have a small family gathering in Sparta (Randolph Co,) IL. Again this is my Mother's immediate family. I have no idea where this family migrated from or how they ended up there. I have requested a cousin of mine for a DNA sample and he said ok as soon as I order it. I see that ancestry.com is offering a special price on kits right now. Also I know from being part of DNA project for my surname (PRESLAR/PRESLEY) that sometime, I think, they will offer a group price sometimes. Max

Marion:

Wow! Isn't this wonderful. I remember the house on 2nd street too, that's where Mary Belton Pressley lived when she died. That was the house owned by Stedman Stauffer - husband of Mary's daughter Anna Belton Presley.

All we know about the later part of William Presley's life is that he was an alcoholic and left the family sometime in the early 1900's - to where we don't know. (We even have a copy of his Temperance Agreement in our family bible - guess it didn't work!) After he left, Mary Jane changed the spelling of the family name to Pressley - and later married Charlie McKinsey.

I was born 2/21/46 - same generation.

Boy, would I love to see those photos. We have some too. I usually go back to see my sisters every year. Next year I will be there in June for the Eslinger family reunion (70 years) - and I would love to meet you. I know that York is not far away. My sisters and brother will be thrilled.

I'm going to your tree now - thanks so much.

I'm a little confused - I know Mary Belton married Charlie McKinsey - is Robert his son or not?

Karen

Hello Cousin!

We are definitely the same family. Your grandmother Emma Mae was the younger sister of my grandmother Anna Belton Presley. We have the same great-grandmother - Mary Jane Belton Presley.

Ironically, while I was at my sister Melanie's house in Lemoyne this May, we were looking through the family bible and saw that Emma married Robert McKinsey - son of Charlie McKinsey the second husband of my great grandmother Mary Belton Presley. Melanie remembered that our mother Mary Stauffer Eslinger loved Charlie very much. Melanie also remembered that Emma's children were "Pickles" and "Penny" -is this you?

I have lots of information for you - there were actually 6 children total - two of whom died young. They were Anna Belton Presley, Robert Clark Presley, Emma May Presley and Grant Presley. If you would like to look at my tree - go to Public Trees under The Clark Family. If you can't get access, just let me know.

I have been spending most of my time recently trying to get back to Ireland with the Beltons and Clarks. I'd love to know if you have any information about that.

I live in California, but my two sisters and brother live near you - Melanie in Lemoyne, Laurie in Enola, and Jeff in Mechanicsburg - small world!

Can't wait to hear from you.

Karen

Hello I read your post unfortunately I am unable to assist you. I have found out alot of information by attending the large annual family reunion. It is being held in Savannah Georgia this year. Can you ask your family if they have ever heard of Davis Moving Company in DC? This is the moving company that my mother told me was owned by my grandfather's brother's children. Hopefully someone else will respond to your post who can provide more info. Someone responded to another website I am on and they wanted to find out more about their family and I encouraged them to come to reunion this year. KIT perhaps I can let you know about the one for next year or get a contact in the family that may be able to assist you. Take Care

Does anyone know the parents of James Belton? He was born about 1810 in North Carolina. He seems to have wandered around through many states like North Carolina, Pennslyvania, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Illinois. He was married to a woman named Sarah and later to a woman Lethia. From one site I read he may have been in a mob that killed Joseph Smith. I just can't seem to get any farther back.

The recent release of UK census details for 1901 & 1911 give clues about a tough start to life for Grandad, the rest he told me. JBD

Ok, I will hopefully give you a good answer here. Charlie McKinsey married Mary J. Pressley (formerly Belton). Emma Mae Pressley married Robert Thomas McKinsey. Robert C Pressley was HER son, not Charlie McKinsey's son.

Robert Thomas McKinsey is the child of Thomas N. McKinsey and Laney ???.. I haven't figured out yet if Robert and Charlie are relatives and what way they are relatives. I suspect they are relatives.

According to the 1920 Census, Charlie lived at 316 Second Street in West Fairview. At that point he was married to Mary J. Belton Pressley. She was 44 he was 49. Her son Robert C. Pressley lived with them, age 21.

By that time my Emma married Robert Thomas McKinsey(Pop Pop)was said to be alcoholic, but I never saw that. He lived into his 90s. Emma (Mom Mom) died in her 60s.

Marion

Hello Karen, Please keep my email address, oceanarose@hotmail.com

This is incredible.

I can hardly get my brain around this. All kinds of things are flooding my head right now. Emma married Robert Thomas McKinsey. His parents were Thomas N. McKinsey and Laney ??? They lived at 503 Second Street, West Fairview, PA. I know the house very well. I'm not sure if it's still there. I was there as an infant with my mother while my dad was in WWII. I was born 1-23-45. I spent may hours there in my life with my grandparents. My Father, Thomas Chester McKinsey and Mother then moved to Castle Street in Marysville.

My grandmother would have been the 5th child. She was born Emma Mae Pressley b. 31 Jul 1900, d. 1968 and is buried in Enola. Grant Earl Pressley was born in 1901. According to the census at 1910 she lived with Charlie McKinsey listed as a "servant" and her 2 youngest lived with her. I don't know where William Pressly was at that time. I haven't begun to search.

I'm going to invite you to view my tree so you can see for yourself what I have found but remember, I have lots to add to it. I have most of what I know on paper.

Do you have photos? I have a portrait of Mary J. Belton. I have lots of photos that I must compare to get names. Not many are marked. They were rescued years ago from an attic at West Fairview after my grandfather moved to a nursing home. I will have to scan them and put them up. Please be patient. I just have so much going on with this thing right now my brain is running miles ahead of me.

I want to look at your tree too.

I live in York County, PA. I lived in Michigan for many years though. I was born in Harrisburg. I'll go invite you to my tree.

Marion McKinsey Hess
