Bement, Walter D.
- Walter Daniel Bement, 81, of West Pearl Street, Newark, died suddenly at his home on December 15, 2004. Family and friends may call Friday (Dec. 17) from 4 to 7 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday (Dec. 18) at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church with Rev. Peter Clifford officiating. Burial will follow in East Newark Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Bement was born the son of the late Charles and Caroline Lyon Bement on January 1, 1923 in Phelps, New York. He was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark and Carpenter Local 85 in Rochester. Mr. Bement was involved with the construction of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital at its present location, the Newark High School, the bridge on Route 14 in the village of Lyons and many Wegmans stores in the Rochester area. The funeral home flies the Navy flag in honor of his service to our country during WWII. Mr. Bement will be remembered by his sons Daniel (Kathy) Bement and James (Helen) Bement both of Newark; grandchildren Darcie, JW and Kassandra Bement; brother Richard (Donna) Bement of Old Forge; sisters Marion Bement and Geraldine Griner both of Phelps and Dorothy Povero of Geneva; many nieces and nephews.
