Erskine (Horace Erskine) was our great grandfather. My sister has quite a bit of information, civil war, pension, and a published bio on him. According to the bio he was born 8/25/1849 in Dunkirk, NY. The bio lists his grandfather as Asahel, father as S. J. Bemus (born Genesee Co. NY), mother Laura (Richardson, NY). They migrated through Corry, Pa to Astabula,Ohio in 1866, and later to Urbana and Sidney Ohio. He married Lucy Fisher while in Urbana, Ohio and they lived in Sidney, Ohio (Shebly Co.) where he was an architect. His wife died in 1908 and he moved to Bakersfield, Calif. in 1909.
