My husband comes from Maria Juliana Benavides. I have her marriage document. She married Juan Antonio Cavazos. They had Eligio Cavazos Benavides who by his second marriage to Juana Navarro had my father inlaw Manuel N. Cavazos. My father inlaw's mother died when he was five years old and he came to live on this side with his grandmother Agueda Barrera who had married Luis Navarro. They were Juana's parents. My father inlaw married Jesusa Aguirre and they were my husband's parents. They lived in Edinburg, Texas. My father in law was born in Reynosa. His father Eligio died in Reynosa in 1918.

Any information that you may want and I can provide I will. I just recently found out about her ancestors and siblings. My husband was working on only the Cavazos side and he suffered a stroke in 06. He is doing well but he forgot a lot of what he was working on.

My husband's father Manuel was a son of Eligio Cavazos who was a son of Juan Antonio and Maria Juliana. I just found out that she was a sister of Leonor, Placido, and Eugenio Benavides.

Annalisa, I would be delighted to help you. You may contact me directly at blanche_deleon@msn.com. You need to have your line defined with original documents until they are no longer available for example birth, death, marriage certificates, then census or legal records, like wills and deeds for the older relations all the way to the relative you would like to go in under. I believe you are a descendant of one of Placido's brothers. In my application, I have already filed documents with their presence, so some records are already on file. There are forms you can use to do this linking gnereation to generation. Once you have papers pretty well together, you then need to contact a registrar for DRT in the area you want to join and they help you with the rest. If youa re doing it for yourself, it is a short jump to getting your father registered to be a Son of the Republic, as well as any children you may have. If you tell me which brother you are related to I can look them up on the registry and request the applications already on file, which may save you some additional time. You may also call me in the evenings 361 573-2657. Let me know what I can do to help you. Please tell me where you are from I can get the contact information for your local registrar.
Hector, Placido (the older) is registered as an ancestor with which to become a Daughter of the Republic of Texas. I am a descendant of Placido which is the uncle to your Placido, and I am a member. Also you may or may not know that your Placido (nephew of Placido Benavides, Alcalde of Victoria Texas 1835)fought in the Civil War which also qualifies you all to become Daughters and Sons of the Confederacy. Please let me know how I can help you and your children. Just this year, the de Leon Family erected a monument to Placido Benavides(the older) marking his early leadership here in Victoria Texas, in our City Hall Plaza.

I have been talking to my only daughter for years about getting the ancestry information to also get her registerd as a DRT. Any help in that area would be greatly appreciated. Looks like we are distant relatives as Placido Benavides is my great-great grandfather. Look forward to hearing from you.

Benavides, the town and the family

I was wondering if the Benavides family from Victoria was any relation to the Benavides family that founded the Town of Benavides Tx. The founders of Benavides are direct descendants of my dad. I believe the mans name was also Placido Benavides. I am interested in studying more of my family history, but a major part of it is the Confederate History associated with the family. Thanks for ya'lls help!

My dad was from the town of Benavides. His last name on his mothers side was Benavides. The thing is he was adopted by Rivera, his surname would have been Vasquez. I love his family history, is there any linkage between the South Texas Benavides and Santos Benavides from the Civil War? I know apparantly Placido fought for the South but I dunno how that would have happened with the age.

I too, have recently been inducted into DRT and my father, into SRT. We went in under Martin deLeon. Placido Benavides was his son in law. I am grandaughter to Placido Benavides that died in Opelousas. All of the Benavides' received land grants in Victoria County around 1830. We are planning a
de Leon reunion in 2011. Please check us out on www.deleonreunion2011.com. Feel free to contact me and to participate.

Greetings---
I too, am looking for lost family members. My great-great-great grandfather was Isidro (Ysidro) Benavides. His son, Placido (not to be confused with his brother who died in Opalousas, LA) was my great-great grandfather who founded Benavides, Texas. I think that we all should be very proud of our lineage and what our ancestors did to settle early Texas. Because of Isidro and his involvement in early Texas history, I was able to finalize my paperwork as a DRT.

I look forward to your postings.

That Mike Hogan who was in the 1880 Census in Soccoro County it seems has to be a candidate to be Mackling or Mike Hogan who married Jesusita Moreno. He is the only one listed. Also most immigrants lived by their family, and I don't see any evidence of a family in Dona Ana county or any county in New Mexico in 1880. I told Louie Camunez about
this study by you, so he knows. I think there is a good possibility that this Mike or Mackling Hogan was born in the US and his parents were born in Ireland.

Jim

I'm sorry I did not reply. I am still pondering, you brought up some great points.
I am going to go to NM and do some more research in the Spring. I will keep you posted. All the documents say Mike Hogan was born in Ireland and somewhere I thought I saw his parents were also born in Ireland. Although you are correct Horgers does not sound like an Irish name however there were some immigrants in Ireland. When I search Horgers it does not come up in Ireland, I believe it is Welsh. (?). The mystery continues. Thank you for all your comments. T
