Hi I just want to thank you before my subscription of the 14 day trial ends today but thank you for the info with the Benke family, and if you are willing to get rid of the William Benke card well I figured he is my great-great-grandfather...so you could always send it to c/o Sherie Theile (Benke) @ 2509 Hackney Dr Kettering Oh 45420. Im so sure my father would get a big kick out of seeing it and im starting a home Ancestry Book. But if you want to thats great and if you keep the card I totally understand and maybe if I can't get my home book started then you might see me back on here.

Sherie

Hi..I am patsy benke Sams born in Charleston, SC. My ancestors, I believe are from Moravia. I know that there is a town in Moravia named Benke and I have been trying to get information. My father, Robert Charles Benke, also born in Charleston, SC was born in 1905 and is deceased. He was orphaned in Charleston when he was 4 as his father had died and there has never really been any information about his ancestors other than he thought they were from Russia. That was a guess, but his family may have been from Benke in Moravia. My father's mother was Alberta Shriver and his father was Robert Charles Benke. My daddy married Brightie Mock from Screven County, GA.

I have been doing some research into the Benke Family Tree and have just restarted it again. My husband Chris is the great-grandson of Augustus Charles Herbert Benke. If anyone is interested I can give some information regarding the family descendants of his first son, Augustus Charles Herbert born around 1890 and married to Ethel Gertrude Butler. Like everyone else, i have drawn a blank with John Benke of Dorset. I'd be grateful to learn of any developments there.

Regards

Shelley Benke

My name is Wayne Smith, Patrick Benke Smith or Bunny is my Grandfather, he did have two children Paul and Susan.

Susan is my mother and now lives back in Australia along with my older brother Jeff.

My Mother was born on the 18th August 1948 in Southampton, to be honest I am not 100% sure of my uncles year of birth but I can find out if you wish?

My D.O.B 30/12/1975
Jeff D.O.B 22/04/1973

My Uncle Paul lives in Maidenhead, Berkshire he has two children, Paul Jnr and Sonia, he is married to Julie who is from Spain.

Last summer we took Patrick to visit the family home in Dorset. He say's it has remained the same, with a very distinctive green roof and pond, he his brotehr and farther dug together.

We also visited the school both he and Gerald attended as young boys.

To be honest I do not know to much about the Benke history other than what my Grandfather has told me. But if there is anything else I can help with please just let me know?

My email is wayne.smith27@btopenworld.com feel free to contact me.

Regards

Wayne

Hi Jo

Absolutely delighted to hear from you & so will Pat's daughter Kathy as Doss was her aunt and we have been rather frustrated in our research in tracing her family as I think I told you because there are so many people called Smith. In case you don't know Pat whose full name was Ellen Patricia was Doss's sister. As I expect you may know Doss had four brothers one of whom died in infancy as well as her sister Pat,two of whom, Vic & Ernest, also served in the Connaught Rangers, rising I believe to the rank of Lt. Colonel. The third brother, Les, who I did meet worked for J.Lyons & Co. all his working life. I am telling you all of this & I have just realised I don't know how much you all ready know of your husband's family history.

You haven't told me where you live so although I live in Ewell near Epsom in Surrey I do not know how practical it would be for us to meet and share the information we have.

Please let me know where you live because it could well be possible for me to arrange for you to meet Kathy as well although she married a Dutchmann & now lives in Holland as she is also very interested in the Benke family history and has quite a few family photos including one of Doss in India as a child.

As far as sharing photos is concerned I am only too pleased to do so but as I am only partially computer literate I think it would be easier for me to do so if I had your email address, you all ready have mine but I will repeat it, daben40@aol.co.uk. & my phone number is 020 8393 8721 It would be easier for me to scan and send you a ccopy of the family tree information that way although it would be even better if I could send you the file because there is a lot of information regarding individuals, such as where they served in the Army & so on which can only be accessed when the file has been loaded into a computer and opened

Regarding Doss's family I know that she had two sons, on of whom I believe was known as Bunny, was that Patrick or Gerald and what were their dates of birth? I also believe that one of the brothers had 2 children who were called Paul & Susan and that the other brother had one son called Mark & any information you can give me about them such as dates of birth and who they married etc would be very much appreciated by Kathy & me.

You ask how I am related to Doss. My Grandfather Charles Herbert was one of Arthurs brothers so my father Fredeick William was Doss's 1st cousin and I am her 1st cousin once removed.

I realise that this is a bit of a screed but I hope it will be of interest to both you & Patrick when you see him on Thursday.

Please keep in touch as I am sure that we both have a great deal of information that will not only be of interest to us but also to other descendants of the mysterious John Benke, Augustus Benke's father.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Very best wishes
I am very keen to get in touch becase I believe that you can give me information which I have been unable to secure from the usual sources simply because of the number of people named Smith. Was one of your husband's ancestors Dorothy Benke known as Doss and did she marry Sydney Smith?
There seems to be some confusion. William Charles Benke was born 5 Sep 1876. Robert married a Dorus E Doscher in Charleston, SC in @1859. Robert had 4 children in Charleston Robert A 1860, Louisa @1861, Margaret @1873, and William Charles. Because of the gap their may have been more children. As for the passport, I will work on that.
