Born St. Mary's, Manchester. On 8 May 1853 he was 17 yrs and 10 months old. If I can believe age and dates in his service record he turned 18 on 6th July 1853.
He joined the 14th Regt in Woolwich 1853, married Mary Caffrey in 1856, Tullamore, Ireland, had two daughters in Ireland.
He transferred to the 108th Regt in 1863, went to India, had more children, and came back abt 1876.
In 1881 living in Hulme with wife, sons George Frederick (1873), William John (1870)and daughter Emily Ann (1881).
In 1891 they lived in Salford, Son William John had just married.
Son George married and was living in Yorkshire 1901 (a gymnast on stage).
Son William John I found again in 1911 with wife and two children (there should be more). He and his son Alfred were acrobats, his wife Sarah a statue artiste, also a daughter Lilian.
William John probably died in Salford 1905, his widow and Emily Ann (unmarried) living with daughter Elizabeth Begley in Salford. The Begleys lived in Hulme in 1901.
I haven't been able to find William and Mary at all in 1901. The same for son William John and his family.
Does anybody know this family, and where both William Johns were in 1901?
And does anybody have a clue on the parents of William John?
His marriage and the baptisms of the children all Roman Catholic. Marriages of at least two of the children also RC.
If he was baptized in Manchester Cathedral it was just as William, which seems odd to me. Is it?
