It's been a while since I posted this, and I have some updated information.

I got a copy of William's death registry entry, and it according to that record, William was born in Harford County, MD. I've looked in some Harford County records and there are Bennett's there, but no specific mention that I can determine of this particular WIlliam.

I have other records (death certificates from his offspring and a War of 1812 pension record) that confirm the maiden name of his wife.

If anyone has any info on this branch, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
