Mary (Benney) Rearick

I am looking for any information on a Mary Benney who married Calvin R. Rearick in Union County, Pennsylvania on 17 Nov 1888. She had sued Calvin for getting her pregnant, which case was resolved when he married her. Approximately four months latter she was back in court charging him with desertion. After that, the trail has grown cold and I have been unable to find anything further about Mary or her child.

Here is what I do know about her:

Born: Mary Benney, 26 Aug 1870 in Baltimore, MD
Parents: David J. Benney (b. 1845 in MD) & Amanda (Johnson) Benney (b. 1850, in PA)

Any assistance would be appreciated

Interesting.
I have found a number of Benny/Bennye wills from this family who were living at St Cleer in the 1600 & 1700s at the National Archives online - but can only see the summary abstract not the whole document, suspect I would have to spend some $$ to get a document but I might chase it up. It does appear that Nicholas Benny was a weaver. A later William Benny was a "faller" - not sure what that means as yet. Jenny

I can't take credit for the BENNEY info back to Nicholas. A wonderful BENNEY researcher, Caroline Cavaugh, gave me this information back in 2002. I can only prove William BENNEY b. 1772 m. Catherine LYNE (my 3ggp). I have their marriage certificate.

I lurch into your list of Benney's of St Cleer near the top - Nicholas Benny/Bennye/Benney m. Elizabeth Landry/Laundry/Laundrye/Laundery/Lanndry 1 May 1682 St Cleer. I belive I descend via their youngest daughter Margret Binny/Benny

I am fascinated to see you have somehow got further back on the Benny side. I had made a logical deduction that father of Nicholas was likely to be a Henry considering it was obviously important to Nicholas to have a living son called Henry but have not found anything to date ..... where did you find the Henry m. Loure/Loar information (and further back).

Benjamin Benney married Isabella Saywell on the 6th of October 1884 in Sydney Australia. On the 20th of July 1885 they gave birth to a son, George Burleigh Saywell Benney. He was my maternal grandfather. After WW1, George married Mary Anne "May" White in Warmunster England on the 7th of September 1918. They had six children; (Dorothy, Allan & Tom were from a previous relationship) then Victor Ernest, Harold, Lillian, Muriel Constance and finally my mother Emma Florence Anne. My mum married John Rich & I'm their third son. Sadly all the Benney's are now gone; my mum died in 2008. I have a wealth of material; birth, marriage & death certificates, photos; let me know.

David Rich
david@rich.name

David

Looking again, the 1891 lists Elizabeth as being from St Columb! However, that could be a misunderstanding - St Enoder comes under the district of St Columb.
St Allen, St Enoder and St Columb all mentioned!
There is a baptism for an Elizabeth BENNY in St Enoder 14 Dec 1834, which may be relevant...
I think the marriage certificate is probably the only way to finally resolve this mystery!

Mark

Hi Gail,
I got the St Allen reference from the 1871 census, which shows Elizabeth living in Treveal (Cubert), and listed as born in St Allen.
Census ref RG10/2257(2) folio 85 page 13

However, I suspect that is incorrect - St Enoder would seem the most likely place. I vaguely recall spending some time trying to track her down in St Allen records to no avail.

The marriage certificate may be able to identify the truth.

Her daughter Mary married John Trenerry - hence my connection with the family, although Joseph Georges daughters were the only members of the family I knew personally.

Mark

Thank you Mark. I will look for that certificate.
In the 1861,1871 census Elizabeth wife of John and mother of Phillippa Joseph and Mary is shown as being born in St Enoder not St Allen. I think you have previously given me your Joseph information but I didn't note where the information concerning Elizabeth's place of birth was sourced from. I would appreciate it very much if you could let me know.
Gail
Hello Jim,

I am looking for info on a 4G grandfather named "John Benny" (or Benney) who fought with Cornwalis at Yorktown and later settled in Pittsburgh.

His daughter, Catherine, married John H. Reddick (b 1756-1830), who fought with the Westmoreland (Cnty) Militia in the Rev. and later fought in The War of 1812. Later Reddick would became a well known Judge in Beaver Cnty. I descend from Harriet Reddick, one of John and Catherine Reddick's daughters.

All of this info comes indirectly from a lengthy article about the Judge, published by "The Pittsburgh Leader" on Sunday, June 18, 1899. Since the article was written almost 70 years after the Judge's death, and the deaths of all his children, it would be a surprised if the info regarding names were correct, e.g. John/James, Benny/Benney, etc...

Can you tell me any info on this Benney family. Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Chris Ferrenz
Chevy Chase, MD
cferrenz@erols.com

Hi -

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Benney, daughter of Edward S Benney, with a brother named William and a brother named James.
BENNY BENNEY PITTSBURGH, PA. USA

There were many such factories and premises in the St George area at that time, Most were gone by the late 1930`s. Those remaining suffered heavy damage during WWII. I was born during the early part of WWII so my own memories don`t reach back that far. However my Mom, Dad and Aunt (who still lives in Fishponds) often speak of events, people and places during that period. Neither my Mom nor Aunt can remember the premises to which you refer. Have you tried the Chamber of Commerce? Their records will almost certainly give you some clues, even the answer perhaps! Good Hunting and please keep in touch.

JB

My grandmother was C of E and I know her brother was a Padre in the Army during WWI, but was killed after being run over by a horse and cart. My grandmother's maiden name was Elsie May Symonds - I don't know her parent's first names.
I'm a new researcher, trying to find BENNEY ancestors. My grandfather IVON SYMONDS BENNEY
came out to Australia in 1923. They left England/Wales the day after he and my grandmother married. I have a newspaper clipping stating that he was the only son of Mr J Benney of Falmouth. My grandparents were married in the Baptist Church, Griffithstown. Any information would be gratefully received!
