George Ross Benning b: 1894 married to Rae Harmon b:1902
had two children Marie and Evelyn.

George's father was Adam Benning married to Sarah Oyler.(Ohler?) Lived in the Fairhope, PA area.

Adam and Sarah are my g-g-grandparents my g-grandmother was Annie Elizabeth Benning married to Henry Seifert.

I would believe we are related. If you fill their is a connection please get in touch.

Not sure of the John Benning. My Great Grandfather Herman Henry Prange came from Germany with a sister named Wilhelmina, her DOB would be 1839, they immigrated in 1854. Her mother's name was Catharina. If this is the Wilhelmina you're related too please respond. We are trying to find out what happened to that branch of the tree.

Arthur L Benning - 1889 - UK - illegitimate?

I have discovered a great uncle, probably illegitimate. My grandmother Bessie Benning had been seperated and on the other side of the world from husband Nicholas for 2 years when young Arthur is born. L in his name could be Lovell or Lindquist. I believe (but cannot prove) that his father was Arthur Crouch Folkard, retd from Ceylon civil service to UK. He and Bessie plus2 children living in same house in 1891 census.

I wonder if since Your Elijah Broughton was in Chatham Co,Savannah and related to Henry C Benning and Henry Lewis Benning and Ft Benning Ga was named for Henry Lewis Benning if my James Broughton bn 1803 who settled in Russell Co, Al just across the river from Columbus and Ft Benning, if there might be a connection.

I am looking for any info on Dorathea Benning. She was born 9-22-1835 in Nuremburt, Germany and died 6-22-1924 in Illinois. She came from Germany with 2 children and pregnant with another. What county is Stanwood in? I have a Walter Benning born in Keosaqua in the 1800's. He died 4/12/76. He married Lena Lucas, also born in the 1800's, not sure where, died 8/20/81. Both died in Des Moines and are buried at Glendale Cemetary. They are the parents of Theodore Benning, an only child, who married Majorie Martin. She died in January 1987, also buried at Glendale.
My Bennings are of African-American descent, however whole family are very light skinned. Walter had 2 brothers, Lester and Harvey.
Any connection?

I am trying to locate any info on the partents of Walter Benning (had brothers, Lester and Harvey) who married Lena Lucas. We know Walter was born in Keosauqua, Iowa sometime in the late 1800's. He died in Des Moines on 4/12/76 and is buried at Glendale Cemetary. Walter married Lena Lucas. also born in late 1800's and died 8/20/81.
Walter and Lena are the parents of Theodore L. Benning, an only child. Theodore married Marjorie L. Martin, daughter of Theodore R. Martin and Helen (Jackman? of Greene County, Iowa )Theodore and Marjorie had a son, my husband, Marcus Vincent Benning. Marjorie died 1/15/1987.
Any info would be appreciated.

Mark, I have a photocopy of this book. It is out of print. You might be able to get it via interlibrary loan to make a copy. I'd be glad to share a photocopy as well. One caveat about this book: a cousin who knew this author had some reservation as to the reliablity of the research.

I am a descendant of Judith Benning (1785-1831) who married Jeremiah Lewis. I see that you have also posted asking for more info on this Benning family. I have considerable info.

A cousin has recently published her own research on this Benning and Lewis family and you might find it interesting.

Please contact me directly and I can give you details as to how to get a copy of the new book. Also, let me know what you're still searching for in more detail. I'm glad to share what I have learned. My email is <mharris@ku.edu>.

To whom it may concern, I made a mistake in my last message. My Grandfathers name was Frederick Benning and he was married to a lady called Counsyletti. Her maiden name was Cooper. Her mothers maiden name was Marney and it was Counsyletti's Grandmother who was a Chipperfield.
Everyone called Counsyletti Con. We believe that Counsyletti died in about 1945-1946. We do know where Counsyletti's grave is.

I sent an email using an older address for you from the Wayne County MI message board. Hope you received it. If you didn't, I'm certain that we have a connection. My husband's line starts with a Harry Benning son of George Benning. They lived in Detroit MI and on the census, George is listed as having been born in Detroit but his parents were listed as born in New York. My father-in-law said that they were born either in Germany or Poland. When I looked for your William Benning he has a son the right age named George and also Albert. Albert was living with my George in the 1920 census and is listed as his brother. Hope this is a connection.

Is there a tombstone for a Lydia B> Darragh at Darraghstown, County Fermanagh? John Darragh m. 2nd wife Margaret Oliver betw. 1759 & 1767. But dau. Isabella was born to lst wife ll/05/1759 in County Antrim or County Fermanagh. Isabella emigrated w. father, stepmother, & half-siblings to Pennsylvania in l774 & m. Robert Liggett by 1779. She named her oldest daughter Lydia Benning Liggett. Traditionally, the first daughter is named for the mother's mother.

George BENNING was living in Portsmouth, IA when his son James was born 15 Jan 1894. James' mother is listed as Martha KITE - and George in later census is listed as marrying 3 times - his wife Minnie and son James and baby daughter Blanche is with him in the 1900 Faulk County, SD census. Does anyone know this George?

I am a decendent of Eve Burckley, born abt. 1851 in Germany. She was married to John Burckey, cr. 1870, they lived in Buffalo, NY. Sometime bewtween 1880 and 1895 John is gone and she is married to Anthony Benning, born abt. 1850 in Holland. In the 1900 and 1910 censuses Eve and serveral of her children are living in Anthony's household at 260 Bristol St. My great-grand mother, Kathrine Miller, was Eve's daughter. In fact, Kathrine, my great-grandfather Louis Miller and their family, the Millers, also lived at 260 Bristol in 1910. I would love the oppotunity to know more about Anthony Benning and his family. I know very little right now.

Nicholas married Bessie 1880 in England, shortly thereafter they went to Kingwilliamstown. Daughter born 1882, Bessie leaves SA then and returns to UK. Back to Nicholas 1885, finally leaves about 1887 and does not come back. Nicholas granted divorce 1898 on grounds malicious desertion.
Any knowledge of him? He was my great grandfather - poss he married again in SA. There may have been a sibling, Jerry Benning who fell into a ditch and died, Kingwilliamstown 1881.

Eunetta - Sorry I am 4 years late in answering your 2000 query. I have photographs of the three graves there: Pleasant Moon Benning (1783-1845), his daughter Sarah Amanda Benning, and his mother-in-law Mary Meriwether White (1763-1840). Also a granite marker that names the three graves. No one else was buried there because it was deserted due to Civil War. Pleasant's wife Malinda Lewis White Benning (1789-1864) is buried with her son Gen. Henry Benning in Columbus. I have photographs of their graves, too.

My gr-grandfather, but there's a scandal and skeleton in this closet. He obtained divorce in S Africa (1898) from his wife Bessie and the court proceedings say
a) He was "Married in Haste" and this is given as the reason why his middle name of Nickleby does not appear on his 1880 St Pancras marriage certificate. My grandmother was born 1882 therefore not an early arrival forcing marriage, also their only child (that I know of)
b) In divorce proceedings, marriage is noted as "Compulsory Marriage" Confusing again if you look at their childs birthdate.

Another possible scandal and skeleton arises with their child, my grandmother Winifred Benning. Family has spent years chasing her supposed husband Nigel Pelham with no success, but I think she was possibly not married because her actual birth certificate shows her christened Winifred Pelham Benning. Perhaps she had an illegitimate child (my dad) in India 1911 and merely took her middle name as a new surname. I have positively eliminated Pelham on the maternal side as she is descended from Lindquist - Lovell - Benning.
Anyone have any ideas? I am at a bit of a loss.

Further to this, I have subsequently found out that she invented Patricia to substitute for her baptismal middle name of Pelham. That is interesting because she led family to believe she married Nigel Pelham and had my father in Poona 1911. Looking more like he was illegitimate every day. The names on her maternal side were grandparents Lovell, gr g'parents Lindquist. Full details of research to date on message board under Nicholas Nickleby Benning.

I would be grateful for any information on William H (poss Henry) Benning born 1866/67/68 married to Eliza S Benning (no maiden name yet) and living in Dartford. They are the parents of Edward Ernest Benning.

I have found a William Henry Benning who married in Dartford in Sept 1888 on Vol 2a, Page 749 of BMD. I also found an Eliza Sophia Hudson who married in Sept 1888 also on Vol 2a, Page 740. Do you have any further information??
