I am looking for ancestors who might have journals of that time ( 1855) and might have a mention in the journal of a family who had a Christmas fire and whose daughter died in that fire.

Alice Bennion from Yorkshire, West Riding, UK

I am having a heck of a time finding any information on Alice Bennion's parents. She was born in 1904 in Yorkshire, West Riding, UK. Married 1937 or 1938 to Joseph Hobson Hilliam. Died in 1961 in Bournemouth (the same year as her husband).

Unfortunately no one is alive who can remember her parents; her daughter, Daphne Hilliam is deceased and we do not have any contact with her son, Desmond Hilliam, who lives in the UK.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Bennion/Benyon/Benion--Welsh Name???

Hi, I descend from a Bridget Benion (born ca 1575) who married John Carter of London, England. (John was born ca 1574 and died ca 1630). The Carter family later emigrated to Virginia.

I know very, very little about my Bridget Benion Carter. She had a brother named Gabriel Benion but I'm not sure of her parents' names. If anyone knows anything about the Carter and/or Benion family, I would love to hear from you!!

One more question: while I know that my Bridget and many other Benions came from England, the name Benion (however you spell it!) sounds WELSH to me, not English.

So just wondering--is Benion originally a Welsh surname???

Thanks for any help.

My email addy is orangeblossom17@gmail.com.

Thanks again! :-)

Patti

More information would be useful :) Do you know how he got to Fiji? When he married? When son William was born?

Robert Bennions show up in the census records in Lancashire at various times. If he was in Fiji in the mid-19th century, there is a possible birth in Lancashire Online Parish Clerk:

Baptisms: 27 Jul 1818 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Robert Bennion - Child of Robert Bennion & Mary
Abode: Park Lane
Occupation: Butcher
Baptised by: T. H. Heathcote Curate

These same parents also had a son, William, chr 22 Jul 1824 Saint Peter, Liverpool, so William seems to have been a family name.

On the other hand, there is also a Robt Benyon b c 1822 who is Irish:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: Robt Benyon
Arrival Date: 16 Sep 1854
Birth Year: abt 1822
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Race-
/Nationality: Irish
Place of Origin: Ireland
Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
Destination: United States of America
Port of Arrival: New York
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States
Ship Name: Orient

The name seems to have been variously spelled Bennion, Benyon and Binyon.

Kind regards,
Rosemary
Hi. I'm a direct descendant of Robert Bennion. I dont know if he was from Lancashire but he eventually ended up in Fiji, married a chiefs daughter and had a son William-my great great grandfather.I serached England & wales Criminal Registers 1791-1892 & it states that a Robert Bennion had a trial on Feb 7 1873 and was acquitted.I have no idea if this was the same man.I will try to get dates-death and marriage, and maybe his age at the time of the census.
I would appreciate any info at all.
PS: apparently Robert Bennion was good friends with a Mr Burt-they travelled to Fiji together.
Regards
Ella Bennion

Marian McIntyre's father was John McIntyre and mother was Christina Graham. This family appears in the 1861 Scotland Census (See ancestry.com) living in Kilbarchan Parish in Refrewshire. Marian McIntyre is 9 years old.

Additional information on the family is found in Fil #104153, Item 7, Record of members 1848-1864 Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Johnstone Branch (Renfrew) This is the last item on this film. I don't remember seeing anything about Marian on this film.

When and how they came to Utah is still abit of a puzzle.

Dan Reynolds

William Green Bennion 9/3/1949 ~ 2/27/2008 William Green Bennion passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Bill was born Sept. 3, 1949 to William H. and Wanda G. They are especially grateful for the compassionate care he received throughout the years from the wonderful people at Tri-Connections, Danville and the Utah County Medical community. Bill is survived by the families of his five loving sisters who admired Bill for the great example he was of kindness, patience, compassion and of truly enduring to the end: Bonnie (Dr. Richard) Brown, Susan (David) McQueen, Barbara (David) Cockayne, Elizabeth (Gary) Kirby, and Marilyn (Jeff) Merkley, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, two uncles and one aunt. Bennion evidenced apparent concern only in fighting and saving his ship, and strongly protested against being carried from the bridge.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Cemetery: City Cemetery

Born: 1887 Vernon, UT

Died: 1941 Pearl Harbor Killed in Action -- Awarded Posthumously.

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/benni...

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mervyn_S._Bennion

Note: This is not my ancestry.
Hello,

I am related to Rhoda Jones Bennion, she is the 2nd wife of Samuel Bennion, they married 25 Oct 1868, just after she and her family were pionners with the John R Murdock company. I am trying to find if she wrote any history on herself, letters or journals.

Please contact me, thank you, Anita Jones Smith

I've only just started researching my family tree so I have no information going back before my grandparents - I don't even know my paternal grandmother's maiden name. This biography caught my eye, however, because my Dad (Gordon, and presumably his parents, Reese and Irene) grew up in Cheshire. Although we might not be linked it's given me a lead. If anyone knows any links I'd be very interested.
Dear Carlene,

Many thanks for your reply. I am not a descendant of John or Samuel. About 2 years ago I was talking to two American Mormons who were doing their rounds and the subject turned to genealogy and one of them said he was descended from the Bennions of Hawarden in Flintshire North Wales and gave me a story written by John about his conversion to Mormonism and his emigration to The U.S.A.
It is a fascinating story and I will be happy to send you a copy if you give me your address. Also I researched the family tree a bit further back. I live near Hawarden and the Flintshire Record Office is stationed there. I will be very interestd to hear about your connection with John Samuel and see those photos. I very much hope to hear from you soon.
Best Wishes
Peter

Bennion

I am searching for the decendants of John and Samuel Bennion who became Mormons and emigrated to the U.S.A from North Wales, Great Britain in the 1830's or 1840's.

I am Marian's great-granddaughter. I have all
pertinent dates, but I would love to have anything
written by her. My mother is Margaret Webster,
mother is Mae Bennion, Marian's daughter. Do you
know name of handcart company she was with in
1856? Where is her mother buried (Christina
Graham)? Thanks for your help.

Marian McIntyre Bennion

I am Mary Ann Anderson's sister. We are great granddaughters of Marian McIntyre and John Edward Bennion. We are interested in knowing more about her history. We know she came to Utah from Scotland when she was 5 years old. Her mother was a 'lady' from Scotland and her father was a blacksmith.
We are interested in anything to do with Marian, her life, her children and their decendants and her ancestors. What we know is that they brought their family to the Meeteetse, WY area in 1899. Our grandmother is their daughter Agnes Mae Bennion who married Charles Webster. Our mother is Margaret Webster who married Edward Collins. She died in 1985 but Dad is still living.
