Here's what I have been able to come up with from what Jenny Brain gave me and also from some additional research I found. We had some of the Benoy line traced, but not too far.

Lila Benoy is the daughter of William Benoy (Oct. 1865) and Laura Thornton. William Benoy is the son of John Benoy and Mary Jane Coles. John Benoy is the son of James Benoy and Frances (Franny) Johnson, James Benoy is the son of James Benoy and Joanna (Johanna), James Benoy is the son of John Benoy and Mary, John Benoy is the son of Isaac Benoy and Elizabeth Martyn, Isaac Benoy is the son of John Benoy and Mary Hedon, John Benoy is the son of Isaac Benoy and Johan.

She sent me everything that you had sent her. If you have anything additional, that would be great, or if I have anything to you would like. It seems like you were able to go pretty far back.

John Benoy and Mary Jane Coles came to Highland Wisconsin in 1853 shortly after they married and joined John's family who were already in the area, I am assuming to mine, but not sure. The one thing I found confusing was that I found something that stated John's father James dies in England, but I know he had 2 children in Wisconsin. I'm not sure how much information you have. I just wrote a letter to my great aunt-Lila was her mother, so I am hoping she might be able to fill in some of the missing pieces or have some information.

Thanks,
Amy Johnson
amy3455@gmail.com

Hi Amy,
I don't seem to have a record of Flora Thronton or Lila Benoy although I do have a lot of William Benoys. Can you give me more information about William and Flora? Do you have any dates?
There are actually two St Stephens in Cornwall which can cause some confusion - St Stephen by Launceston and St Stephens by Saltash - the earlier records of Benoys are from St Stephen by Launceston while my own ancestors appeared in St Stephens by Saltash in the late 1700s (origin not yet confirmed).
I have done a pretty extensive one-name study of the Benoy family (see http://www.benoy.ca/Genealogy/) and I'd be happy to help you determine where you fit in the family tree.

I to am a descendant of the Benoys. It appears that we came from St. Stephans, England per Debbi's info but we were always told that we came from Ireland. My great grandmother was Lila, daughter of William Benoy and Flora Thronton. Please feel free to contact me with any info you have and I would also be more than happy to share any info I have. I would really appreciate it. I'm just starting to take this over. My mother started years ago before the internet and before my grandparents passed. We have some information, but I'm not too sure about the accuracy. It's been sitting here for about 10 years and I decided to start tackling it again.
Thanks,
Amy Johnson

Hello Benoy researchers!
I was born in Plymouth, too, but my family came from St Stephens by Saltash. I'm pretty sure my earliest proven ancestor (Isaac Benoy born abt 1736) came from the Werrington area but haven't proved the link yet.

I've done something of a one-name study on the name Benoy and have posted most of the information on my website at www.benoy.ca/Genealogy/ I'm adding more all of the time and would be very interested in anything that you can add.

T. C. Benoy in WA 1907

The Evening Chronicle, Spokane, Washington, September 30, 1907.
ASKS FOR DIVORCE
Mrs. T. C. Benoy Says She Is Afraid of Drunken Spouse
Troubles have not come singly to T. C. Benoy. He was put under bond to keep the peace for a period of 30 days by Justice Stocker last August. On September 10, on account of his drunkeness and threats against his wife, he was sentenced by Justice Stocker to 15 days in jail and to pay a fine of $50, and is still confined in jail serving out the sentence and fine.

Now his wife, Rosa Benoy, has brought suit and action against him for divorce, and in her complaint alleges she fears that as soon as the defendant is released from jail he will attempt to kill her unless required by order of the court to remain away from her and not molest her.

For the past two years, the plaintiff stated her husband has been an habitual drunkard, and while under the influence of liquor has been quarrelsome and abusive, and has frequently threatened to take the life of this plaintiff or his own life.

During the past summer she has been compelled to take her boy, now seven years old, and flee from her home and seek the protection of friends on account of his riotous manner and threats.

The plaintiff prays that she be awarded the community property consisting of a house and lot in Carlin's addition with the household goods, and that she be given the custody of the child. The plaintiff is represented by Attorney J. W. Marshall.

I'm not related to this couple. The post is for information only.

My grandfather's family name is also Benoy and I have just started researching his ancestry - I have been looking at the UK online census details for the 1901 census and notice that there are a number of Benoys listed as either born or living in the area 'St. Stephens by Launceston' . If you haven't already, you may find some info. on the census site http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/ . Earlier records are indexed at the Family records office in London. I will be visiting there in the next month or two to follow up my Benoy family - if there is anything that you would like me to look up while I'm there I'd be happy to, just let me know.

My Great Grandfather, John Benoy, came from Cornwall England in 1853. He was born in St. Stephans, Launcestor county. We may be related and I unfortunately don't have info. on his family in England, but we may be connected in some way. John married Mary Jane Cole in St. Thomas, Cornwall in 1853 and then they came to Wisconsin and lived there and had many children. I have that information.
