I recall a family story where a daughter of the Lord Mayor of Manchester married a "Smitheman" but have not gone that far back in the tree to date. At some point, my father - Thomas - was doing research and found that a Smitheman was on a boat bound for Barbados and drowned. Will try to locate that. I believe this was in the 1700s. Thank you.
