Bentz Surname with South Dakota Connections

I am interested in communicating with BENTZ researchers who are collecting data on this surname. They would be of German ancestry who immigrated to SD from Neudorf, S. Russia. They detrained in Yankton, SD and spread across South Dakota and probably other areas thereafter. I am trying to collect all I can on Johannes Bentz and Christina Maihoefer descendants.

George Bentz of Philadelphia, PA

The George Bentz that I am looking for is a Son of Adam and Lavinia Bentz of Lebanon, PA. I know that George lived in Philadelphia and may have married a woman named Francis flint and had 2 daughers: Mabel and Marion. This is according to a couple of Census reports. I would like to find somone descended from this family line so that I can confirm this info and so that I can ask their help in identifying a photo that I believe may be Mabel or Marion. I also have 2 great photos of George that I am willing to share. I am actually a descendent of George's sister Elizabeth. If you think that you may be able to confirm this info, and/or identify the girl in this photo, please e-mail me at tlucas@in-touch.net. Thanks!

Samuel Bentz 1845-1886

Still seeking the parents of my 2nd great grandfather, Samuel R. Bentz. Samuel is buried in Penryn Union Cemetery, Penn Township, Lancaster County, PA, alongside two sons, John and Harvey and Peter and Catharine, who I believe to be his grandparents. His wife, Elizabeth, nee Blantz is buried a short distance away as well. I found him in the 1860 census at age 15, living with the Jacob Hartrouft family as a farm laborer. He has yet to turn up in the 1850 census.

I do a lot of family searching and one of them is Bentz on my sister-in-laws side. Her grandfather, Jacob Heinrich or Heinrich Jacob born in Kassel, Glueckstal, Moldova, South Russia in 1861 and came to US from Odessa in 1884 to South Dakota. He had a number of brothers and sisters, many of whom also emigrated. My tree, which I recently updated, is at http://www.wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=ralph.... If we have common lineage, let me know and we can share. ralphdelange@hotmail.com

Hi Tim - we obviously have common kinfolk but I have not been able to match to the names you provided. I do desire continued communication with you. I am attaching a couple files (haven't done this before so don't know if I'm doing it correctly) for your examination.

My grandmother, Magdalena Bentz, was born in Neudorf, S. Russia 20 May 1881. She came to SD with her family as a young child and ended up marrying Balthazar Gall who was born in Worms, S. Russia 28 Dec 1971. So I've been collecting what I can on these two colonies.

I don't have this Bentz in my data base and my immediate line detrained in South Dakota. However, if there is any indication this Bentz family originated in the Alsace region, then immigrated to Neudorf, S. Russia - there is a possibility of a connection. I have many Bentz folk with "George" as a given name. I know all the Bentz folk did not get to America - some ended up remaining and were prisoners in Siberia by the Russian Government during the 1900's.

Bentz family: MD to Lancaster, OH to Shelby County, IL

I am searching for information about the Bentz family who lived in MD (possibly Washington County, MD), then migrated to Lancaster, OH (Fairfield County), then on to Shelby County, IL. Samuel J. Bentz (b. about 1833 in OH) married Sarah A. (maiden name unknown), and Samuel and Sarah Bentz had the following children: Mary A.R.(Rebecca was the R) Bentz, who married John C. Stoneburner, Franklin Perry Bentz who married Elizabeth Frances Miller, Ellen J. Bentz who married John Simon Kinnison, John C. Bentz who married Catherine Mochel, and Edwin C. Bentz who married Mary Sophie Aichele, all marrying in Shelby County, IL in the late 1880s/early 1890s. Franklin Perry Bentz and Elizabeth Frances Miller (daughter of Thomas J. Milller) had twin girls who died in infancy or at birth, named Captilla and C (can't remember right now her first name) and also had twin boys, Archie Bentz who married Agnes McAulay, and Arthur Leo Bentz whose second wife was Stella Opal Henderson. Archie and Arthur Bentz were born on Oct 16, 1893. I know that the parents of Samuel J. Bentz were born in MD, and the parents of Samuel J. Bentz's wife, Sarah A. were born father in Germany, mother in MD. Any other information anyone has on these families would be greatly appreciated. I am particularly interested in knowing who Samuel J. Bentz's parents were, and if Samuel J. Bentz had other siblings.

I am seeking information about ancestors and descendants of Franklin Perry Bentz who married Elizabeth Frances Miller (may have been Frances Elizabeth Miller). Franklin and his wife had several children, two of which were female twins who did not survive long and were named Captilla and ? (the other girl's name escapes me right now), and also male twins, Arthur L. and Archie Bentz, both born on October 16, 1893, in IL. Arthur L. Bentz's second wife was Stella Opal Henderson whom he made his home with in Decatur, IL. Archie Bentz married Agnes McAulay. Any information about this Bentz line would be greatly appreciated.

My great-grandfather's mother was Fredericka Maria Bentz. I understand that both she and my GG Grandfather Ehrhart Hessenmiller were from Coblenz Germany. Ehrhart and Fredericka moved from Germany to York PA. Years later (circa 1903) Fredericka moved to Scranton PA with my great-grandfather (William E. Hessenmiller). I suspect she died around 1914. (This was the last year her name appeared on the Scranton/Lackawanna County census records. Any information on Fredericka (Rickie) Maria Bentz would be appreciated. You can reply directly to me at hessmiller@gmail.com

Bill Hessmiller

Nicholas Bentz was my GG grandfather through his son, Elias. I live near Fort Wayne. I believe Nicholas was buried in Pike Co., IN. Elias and family are buried in Jay Co. IN. Do you have any information about Nicholas, when he migrated here.
