William and Margaret had a daughter, Ann, who had an illegitimate child, Norman Cowper Benvie. His father was a relative of mine (although I'm not sure which one). Norman married in 1940 and died in Perth in 1986, so there are probably still family members in and around Perth

Andrew Benvie and Hannah Laws is an ancester of mine. One of their daughter's Elizabeth(1859-1950)married Daniel Duncan Cameron(1859-1943) in 1884 . They lived in Mt Thom NS. My grandmother was Ethel Cameron. She was the oldest of 12 . She married Charles Scammell and lived in Quincy Mass. They had 3 children . My mother was their oldest daughter Ruth.

I've just learned that an alexander doig is connected to my family. unsure of birth date but has siblings james 1765 john 1766 and thomas 1771.The name Benvie also appears as a middle name in the family. I am not sure where they were from in Scotland. Somehow I posted to the wrong board. The Benvie born in Scotland I am looking for is James Benvie b: abt 1754 and his father, William. I question James' birthdate. He came to Nova Scotia, but I'm not sure if his parents did or not. Thanks for any help!

Do you have info about the children. I'm trying to find out about my grandfather, whose name was William Reekie Benvie. He was born around 1930's, married Doris Doucette, and had two boys, one being, of course, my father, Douglas.

My g-g-g-g-grandmother was Mary BENVIE born in Kinnarid, Angus, Scotland in 1766. She married Alexander DOIG on 27 Apr 1798 in Dundee, Angus. I'm looking for ancestors of Mary.

Gail Our family tree starts here in the states with, there was a brother to William who came over sometime in the early 1900's and married a annie Batchelder. William Benvie born Oct 1900, He married a Katherine Mathews they had 5 boys, William Sr who has been married twice, once to your fathers mother and another time to another woman here. William was the son of Mary Reekie Benvie and William Benvie they were married in 1889. William's father was James Benvie and he married a woman named Agnes Rhindsomes in 1856. I am doing all this from Memoery at the moment. James Fathers was George Benvie who married Christian Forsyth in the 1830s or so He was born in 1812 to James and Elspet Brown . They were married in Inchture Scotland sometime in 1804. that is as far back as I can go , but don't get discouraged with all the benvies we are related in some way but its easy to get side tracked I have birth and death and marrige certificates for most of these marriges.and have gotten tons of infromation from nice people I am just very sick with COPD and am trying to get well enough to get back on the computer full time . I promise I will send anyone this information free once I get it all settled.

Bambi, thanks for your response. I do not have internet access at home. My job keeps me very busy. Will attempt to find more time to provide more info. Uncle Bill died 9/19/02. He is buried on the lot with your father and grandparents. Ma really enjoyed the correspondence you share with her. She was quite a lady and enjoyed her contact with you.

James Benvie who married Elspet Brown had Anne Benvie in 1804 in Scotland , Kinnard they had many children right into the1820s. I have all the dates . But I do not think that this James was the same James that was in Nova Scotia. If it was he would have been 60 or so and still having children.

Well i finally broke down and called my real father. Some of the info i have was wrong. Here is what i have as of last night. My father was born Robert Willis Benvie in 1958 to Theresa Doris Doucette and William Reekie Benvie in Williamsburg Va. Another boy Doug was born in 1957 to the couple while in maine. William was refured to as bill and had red hair. He was in the Air Force and had at least 4 brothers. Williams father died when he was a teenager. William and Dori (theresa) were married in maine 3 nov 1954. Williams mother lived in williamsburg Va. about 8-10 years ago but politly asked never to be contacted again. and so it has been that way. Bill was in the service,air force, with Donald Benvy and I tried to find him. He thought he was from Michigan. A gal in Maine answered and thinks her Dad was the same one. We called a Mrs. Don Benvy in Fla. but he was in the navy. I forwarded your message to the one in Maine. It has become a question of which is which.Good luck. Any help is appreciated.

I am looking for information on my fathers real family. He was born Robert Michael Benvie to William Reekie Benvie and Dori T. (?) Doucette (info via vital records in richmond VA). Dori was from Maine and i think William was too. I am not sure if Dori is my grandmothers real name we called her "Meme". There is an older boy from the same marrieage; Douglas. William and Dori split or william died i just don't know. My father was officially adopted by Dori's next husband Ewert. My grandmother is not contactable and my father knows nothing about his birth father. If anyone can help me it would be great.

Lost Benvie family

My father was born Robert Benvie to William Reekie Benvie and Doris Doucette in Virginia. There was an older boy Douglas by the same father. The parents did not stay together and my father was officialy addopted by his mothers next husband. I have nothing more to go on than this. I lost contact when my parents also split. If anyone may be able to point me in the right direction i would love to know.

Saw your posting re: airforce buddy. It is possible that Donald was stationed with you. As you may know, Donald was killed in a car crash in California. I believe he was about 27 years old at the time. While serving in the ANG, I was on a flight out of Otis Air Force Base (Mass) several years ago and sat across the aisle from a guy that recognized the name on my uniform and told me that he was stationed with Donald while serving in Spain. Donald and his twin (DAvid) entered the service together. I do not believe that they were stationed together once they completed basic training. If you have additonal questions, I would be happy to hear from you.

Your grandfather was born on October 12, 1900. He died on December 24th, 1941. He is buried in the Benvie lot in Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, Maine. Also buried on the lot is his son William Jr., your grandmother Katherine, your father Donald L., a cousin Diane.

I am your father's youngest brother. His twin, David, resides in Zephyrhills, Florida. I'm sure you could get a phone listing through 411. Your grandmother died several years ago. Your father is buried in the Benvie Lot in Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, Maine. Any material you have on the Benvie origin would be appreciated. It appears that you may know about the Benvie's than I.
