Beran / Hunold / Harbaugh Family Connections in California

Hello - I am looking for information on the family of Lewis Elwyn Harbaugh and his wife, Evlyn May Arnold. They were married in 1901 and had two daughters, Susan Irene and Grace Belle. Grace was born in Oregon in 1902 and married twice, surnames Beran and Hunold. Susan Irene was born in 1910 in Idaho and married a Mr. Wilkinson. Lewis died in Los Angeles, Ca in 1946 and Evlyn also died there in 1958. I do have obituaries for Evlyn and Lewis.

I am especially interested in finding additional information regarding Evlyn's brother, Douglas Arnold. They were both born in Brown County, Illinois. Their parents died when they were very young adults and I've had difficulty tracking Douglas.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Sincerely,

Sue suemanz.graham@comcast.net

He has a sister Mary (lived in Cleveland, Ohio) and a brother Edward (died in West Virginia aprox in the 70's) I can find no records that list his parents names.
Beran family from Czech Republic

I am helping my friend Kathy research her family. Her father was Ladislaw "Laddie" Beran born in Czech Republic in 1917, died in Hill City MN in 1949.Laddie was married to June McChane. His siblings were Anna, Emil, Mae and Mary Lou. Laddie's father was Thomas Beran from Pizn(Plizn??)1890-1969. His siblings were Frank, Josef, Bohemil and Barbara.
His mother was Frantiska"Frances" Havlan 1891-1979-died in Waterloo, Iowa. Her siblings were Mary Bela, Barbara Bessie Fischbach and Anna. Thomas and family came to the US in 1921. Thomas had an uncle Josef Beran who became a Cardinal in the Catholic Church and died in Rome in 1969. We are trying to find Thomas' parents and grandparents. or any other family connections in Czech. or in the US.

I just found your post about Joseph Karl Beran. I believe he was the brother to my gr-grand mother Alvina Beran (1886-1958). However my info shows them being born in Austria/Czech Republic. Perhaps the obit's "Australia" is a typo for "Austria"? Help me out there. I found a ship manifest showing them both coming to the US on the Hamburg in Oct 1891 along with parents Joseph (1849-1942) and Theresa (1857-1941) and siblings Julia and Petra/Peter. (My mother remembers her "Uncle Peter" from her childhood in Austin, Texas.) The senior Joseph's (our gggrandfather) father was Joseph Beran married to a Sula (first name unknown to me). This last bit of info was given on his TX death certificate by his granddaughter Mrs Mary Quarles. That brings me to another post about a Frank Beran being married to a Mary Sula. I wonder about a connection or complete names or incorrect names given by relatives on documents. Anyone? I'm stuck on Ms Sula for this branch.

My grgrmother Alvina first married Jim W Patzelt (1881-1911). Jim died of tuberculosis, buried Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Texas. They had 3 children: my grand mother Theresa Anne (1906-1993)married Sternnadle (my line), Pauline Mary (1908-2000)married Castillo, and Jim Joe (1910-1933) single man who died of meningitis probably tubercular in nature. Alvina then married John Paul Walenta and had 6 more children. Many descendents still reside in central Texas.
To all Berans *

My husband's family is descended from Frank and Marie (Mary) Kolman Beran who married in Richland Co., WI about 1870. Marie and her sister Josepha immigrated from Bohemia in 1870 on the U.S.S. Main, and she is supposed to have met Frank on the ship. I can find no record of him on the passenger list. Frank died Dec. 11, 1906 and Marie on Oct 9, 1911, both in Richland Co., WI. Their children were Joseph F., born in 1872 in Chicago; Mary Emma born in Jan 1883 in Richland Co., WI; and Charles born July 1887. Mary Emma married William John Cockroft II and this is my husband's line. I am looking for more information about Frank Beran and would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Karen

Hi Alicia, I see your interest has been sparked as well. I have just started this search a week ago. Just to let you know a little history. Great aunt Lilly passed away in Nov. 2001, Edmond OK. My parents, Marvin & Ann Kirk are now in Tulsa OK, as well as myself and Dianne (Gray). As for the Beran name, I have found grandpa's dad, John Beran born 1874 in Austria, married Frances in 1896, she was from Texas. Both John's & Frances's parents were born in Bohemia/Austria. I'll keep you posted if I hear back.

I just started researching my family 2 hours ago. My grandfather died 2 weeks ago, so I just typed his name in to see what I would find.
I discovered my ggrandfather, Joseph K. Beran, born 10/28/1881, came from Australia in 1891. He married Tracy Haag on 6/4/1906. They lived in Thorndale, Tx. He died in 1969, and she on 9/21/88. Children included Joe, Henry, Emil, Karl, Toney, Pete, Anges, Frances, Sophia, and my Grandfather, Bill Beran ( resided in Thorndale all of his life). Funny thing is, my mother always mentioned the Simek family. Would you happen to be near Milam county? Any enough would be great. Thank you

Probably children.

3. Bernadine Isabel, born 1905, died 1992 in Scottsdale, AZ, married Arthur Griffith, Jr. Probably children.

4. Paul J. born 1909, died 1998 in Bucyrus, married Margaret Shaner. 2 children.

5. Justine, born 1911, died 1912 in Bucyrus

6. George, born 1914, died 1995 in Scottsdale, AZ, married Grace J. Charleston. 3 children.

7. Charles A., born 1916, died 1982 in Prescott, AZ, never married.

If anyone knows anything about these lines of the Beran family, please contact me (e-mail is best). Marie (Beran) Fox's family I have almost totally complete, so I don't need help there, but if you need anything I can share. I'm mostly looking for anything on the families of the other Berans, on which I have exceedingly little. Again, I'd be perfectly willing to share whatever I have. (Also, if anyone knows Joseph or Charles' middle names, that would also help)

--Noah Graf

Looking for death date and obituary, if possible, on Johanna Beran. She died sometime around 1924 or 1925 near Howard Twp, Howard Co., IA, at about the age of 55. She was married to James Beran, and they are listed in the 1920 Howard Twp., Howard Co., IA census. She was buried in the Saratoga Presbyterian Cemetery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Colfax County Berans

Dear Jan: All I know about John Beran is the following... He came to the United States on a Steam ship. He had a brother named Joseph. After coming to the United States he went almost directly to Chicago (which makes sense - almost all Czechs went either there or to Texas). I dont think he stayed in Chicago long before going to Knox county, NE. However, I do have a picture of John and Joe Beran together. Would you recognize Joe if you saw him? If so, let me know your email address and I will send you a copy of the picture to see if that is indeed him. You can email me at Rayzen99@aol.com.

Colfax County Berans

My ancestors came from Czechoslovokia and settled in Colfax County, Nebraska.

I don't know if we are related or not a good friend/hunting buddy of mine took me to the Cemetary up there and though all my ancestors are buried in Colfax County, some of the dates of the Verdigre "relatives" make it possible they were related.

I'm wondering if the "original" Verdigre Beran might have been a brother of Joseph. Do you know what part of Czechy they came from? When was he born?

Joseph Beran b 1828 Horni Krupy, CZ
Anna Blazek b 1842 Sirakovice, CZ
- Joseph Beran b 1862
- James Beran b. 1865
- John Beran b 1867
- Frank Beran b. 1871
- Anna Beran
