Stephanie Freivogel, age 102, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, surrounded by loving family members and devoted nursing staff.
She was born on September 1, 1903, to Alfred and Paula Low-Beer in Vienna, Austria. She married Hans Freivogel in 1927. They emigrated with their daughter Vera to the United States in 1938. She resided in Flushing, New York, for 53 years until her move to Richmond. Her husband passed away in 1971.
Stephanie lived at Friends Fellowship Community for 14 years and was a member of West Richmond Friends Meeting.
In New York, she was office assistant and business manager for her husband’s dental practice. She was an active member of Flushing Friends Meeting for over 50 years, a longstanding member of the alto section of the Queens Oratorio Society and was involved with many other volunteer activities. Among other interests, she loved hiking, classical music, French, reading, sewing, and knitting.
Stephanie is survived by a daughter, Vera Crumley, of Asheville, North Carolina, a brother, Fritz Berens of Fort Worth, Tex.; four adoring grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Michael Crumley-Effinger of Richmond, Patricia Hartmannsgruber of Dover, Del., Nancy Crumley of Brooklyn, New York, and Don Crumley of New Paris, Ohio; six great-grandchildren: Sandy and Gabriel Hartmannsgruber, Anna, Max and Mary Crumley-Effinger, and Adam Crumley; and two nieces, Carol Lowbeer of Farmington, Conn. and Beverly Berens of Fort Worth, Tex.
A memorial service will be held on Monday (April 24, 2006) at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room at Friends Fellowship Community (2030 Chester Blvd). Pastor Joshua Brown will officiate
