I'm looking for help to identify my GG Grandfather.
I have Charles William Beresford in the 1901 census, living in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent with his wife, Mary Foster, and children Harriet (26/01/1895 - 07/04/1983 (my Great Grandmother)), Samuel (b. abt. 1897) and Lavinia (b. abt. 1899). The return records Charles as a Coal Miner, born in Hanley.
I also have a copy of the marriage certificate for Charles William Beresford and Mary Ann Foster, 28/07/1894, in Wellington Church, Hanley. Charles' father is recorded as Henry, Coal Miner.
Based on the dates and ages on the 1901 census return and the marriage certificate, Charles was born between 01/04/1874 and 28/07/1874.
I can only find one Charles William Beresford in the Birth records for that period, but he was born in Hanover Sq, London, and his father is an Edwd H Beresford - so not convinced that this is the same person (I don't think the H is for Henry following extended research into that line of thought), particularly as this Charles' family were clock makers and not coal miners - it all seems too tenuous...
Any help or guidence would be gratefully received!
Thank you - in hopeful anticipation...
