Hello Kari. Look at me responding to your email 12 years later!!! Ha!

Well I am a relative! Name is Karen and I'm a grand daughter of Raymond and we're from Vancouver, British Columbia.

My Uncle Howard (Raymond's son) had put together a bit of the family tree going back to when the family came over from Norway but I have lost access to the tree he put together online. Don't know what happened with that. He probably put it together after you sent your note so maybe you've already been in touch with him.

I'd love it if you would respond back with any info and maybe we can have a yak over the phone sometime!!!

This is very cool!

Take care family! : )

Her brother was Oscar Berge; their parents immigrated to the US from Norway; that must be what you saw at Ellis Island. This is all I know for now. Please let me know if you know any more and I will do the same!

Suzanne

Hello---my Doyle family was from Streator Illinois. I always believed my g.g.grandmother was a Berge or Berg, who married Hugh Doyle. I now find that a Lillie Mae Doyle married John Berge in 1880--this may be Dorthea's daughter, but she would only have been 15. The Doyle's are buried in Wunders Cemetary in Chicago, but I also find a Dorothea Berg buried there. The Doyle family also lived in Ottawa (on the 1880 census). Son, Edward Ely Doyle m. Anne Swensen and they lived in Chicago, although Edward often vistited Streator. I hope you can help me sort this out.

Andrew came to the USA by way of Canada. Records show he enter the US in 1856. He went to New York then to Michigan. The first census record I found was in Monroe County, NY. His sister Catharine Berge Hines arrived in 1854, one year after her husband. They stayed in New York. They came to Michigan to live with their son after they got older. Most of their kids ended up in Kansas. I only have Fred listed as a sibling and was told he went Kansas. Which would explain Why Catharine's children might have moved out there. Although I haven't found any information to verify that Fred was or wasn't there. Catharine & John Hines did have a son named Fred. (??)

They came from Baden & Wurstenburg Germany. Their name was von Berg but changed it after arriving.

This is all I know. There are not any parents on Andrew's death certificate. He died up north and the records didn't have parents names on those records. Catharine died in Detroit. She moved in with her daughter after John died. I haven't found her death record yet.

What do you think?

Sue

Hi. I am looking at the Berge family as well. I am descended from a Fred Berge who was born in 1837 in Germany. He emigrated between 1850-1870. I have his parents, from his death record, listed as Fredrick Berge and Elizabeth Brown. No mention anywhere about siblings. Fred lived in Streator, LaSalle Co, IL and later Avoca, Pottawattamie Co, IA. I find other Berges in LaSalle County. I am wondering if there could be a connection?

Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks
Ryan
hi there am wondering since you said you have the rest of the family tree complete. If you might have a man listed as marrying and Esther. In NY. My grandmother that I know of lived there was born in 1937. Her husband died before my mother was born. My moms name is Dawn Berge. I am her daughter Danielle Berge. Yes I kept the maiden name. Mom wasnt married. Grand mother had a sister named Marrietta. Not sure of the spelling. But I think my grandfather is the link here to the rest of the berge family relations. And if you do have info on Esther. I can tell you she died on 10/25/1992. If any info is relevant let me know.

I believe he was born in Norway in 1911, died in Lynnwood WA 1990.
Brothers were Tormed and Harald Berg, sister Astrid Berg. Apparently his mother was married to a Berg, after his passing she married a Berge. Fritz married his second wife, Locile Evelyn Drake sometime in the early to mid 1950's, they lived in and around Seattle WA.
Tormed died sometime in the early 1960's, his wifes name was Alice. They lived in Tacoma WA.
Harald lived in Port Orchard Wa.
Astrid married an Anderson and I think they lived near Everett WA.
I am looking for any family information and appreciate and and all info you can share.
Thank You!

Yes there is an Ellis Island website that has proven to be very useful to me. It is ellisislandrecords.org. I have found all four of my grandparents who came through Ellis Island on this site. Please keep me informed with any information that might help me find my grandfathers brothers or sisters. Again his name was Frank or Fransek Goscinski born in 1890 in Museynov Poland. He married Sophie (Zofie) Taraska and they lived in Hartford, CT. from 1915-1917 or 18.

Sharon, I was looking on the ancestry web sites, as my cousin Ron Guttu has done extensive research in the Berge-Guttu ancestry. Also, my Great Aunt Alma Guttu had done a book on Frederick and Karen Guttu. I found your inquiries into Anton Guttu. He was my Grandmothers brother,
Serina Berge was her name and she married my grandfather Olaf Guttu. I remember visiting North Dakota when I was 11 years old and meeting Anton on a farm with giant horses. If you need any information concerning the Berge side of the family, my mother and cousin has several web sites with this information. Maybe, you have found them since this was written. If not, e mail me at: smile4me81652 @yahoo.com
My name is Donna M. (Guttu)Rankins
