I am researching Tynan. I am looking for where Patrick Tynan came from in Ireland. He married Ellen Welsh around 1872-1873. Her parents are Oliver and Margaret Bergen Welsh. He was born on June 23, 1844, and his parents were Thomas and Margaret Hearn Tynan. I believe he came to NJ, USA in 1870, but I have also seen 1852.
I also have another clue. Two Tynan twins were hanged in Dublin for horse theft. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My dad and I are planning a trip to Ireland for St. Patricks Day.

Thank You
Kathleen Tynan

I am looking for more information about this woman. She married John E Tierney and had three children in SD. I have what I am pretty sure is her death certificate and it says her parents were Tom Bergen and Mary Ryan. She was born 31 Aug 1866 in Cresco, Howard Co., Iowa and died 06 Apr 1954 in Aberdeen, Brown Co., SD. I have several names for her ranging from Maggie A Tierney to Berrigan and Bergin depending on the census or marriage certificate of two of her kids that you look at.

Bay County, Michigan BERGENS/BERGINS from Ireland

My great grandfather was Daniel BERGIN, born in Ireland about 1840. He came to Hampton Township, Bay County, Michigan. He married Mary MEAGHER, born in County Tipperary, Ireland. The BERGIN and MEAGHER farms were next to each other in Hampton Township, shown in the 1870 census.
There was also a Patrick BERGIN, born in Ireland about 1821, who was also living in Hampton Township. His wife was Honora DUNN. I am not sure if Daniel was Patrick's son, brother or cousin. I am intrigued if there may be a possibility of some relationship with the BERGENS/BERGINS of Oakland County, Michigan and Osceola County, Michigan.
There is so much repitition of names. We have many of the same first names as the Osceola/Oakland BERGENS/BERGINS: Patrick, Daniel, James, Edward, Jane, Mary, John.

I am descended from John Anthony BERGEN(note spelling change), youngest child of Daniel and Mary(MEAGHER) BERGIN.

Margaret Bergen - Ireland - Upstate New York

I am looking for information on:

Margaret Bergen born approx. 1845, County Cork, Ireland, died 1913, Deerfield, NY. Daughter of Thomas and Anne Cashan Bergen. I've heard she had at least one sister, Liza who married (?) but had no children.
Married Daniel Brown, (he was born approx. 1840, County Cork, Ireland, died 1922 in upstate New York) and had 6 daughters, 3 sons.

Sadly, this is all of the information I have. Family rumors that there is a Dutch relative, perhaps on the Bergen side? No way to know that I know of, not yet at least.

I would appreciate assistance.
Thank you.
Joanne

Hello All,
In the last year of my fathers life I asked him if he would write down everything he could remember about his mothers family.
Names & dates may not be exact.
My dad was born in NYC March 1927. To Archibald and Sophia Knox. Found in 1880 census living in 3rd Ward South Easton, Northhampton. Two children are listed Lillie Knox age 16 born in MA, and Marion Knox 13 born in MA.
Archibald had five children by his first wife.
Walter, James, David, Lillie, and Marion. So the two children listed in the 1880 census are probably from his first wife for Archibald and Sophia only had one child Isabelle Francis Knox b. 1886 my grandmother.
The Bergen connection is Marion Knox married a Bergen
and I have 3 children listed. Archie, Isabelle and John Bergen.
My Dad has a note next to John states NYC Fireman.
When I was a child I remember meeting Isabelle who was from NYC. I also remember her telling us she had been a nurse.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
David Smith
Johanna Bergen, Bergen's Island, Flatlands Bay, NY, ca. 1825

I have an article from the May 1938 Antiques Magazine, Vol. XXXIII, No. 5, pg. 266, that has a small photo of her needlework and says: FIG. 6--"WILD GOOSE CHASE" QUILT A seemingly unimaginative pattern until the long strips of triangles are seen to represent flocks of wild geese winging their way above the Long Island Marshes. Johanna Bergen of Bergen's Island, Flatlands Bay, records in her diary (1825-1829) "grate flight of geese. I have seen 17 flocks." Johanna made the quilt here pictured. Owned by a great-granddaughter, Mrs. Jane Voorhies Lyman.

Not my line; that's all I know.

Bergen Family

Hello everyone,

I have recently taken over management of the Bergen Surname message boards. I hope to get great satisfaction over this endeavor.

My Bergen roots can be traced back to Russia. I am stuck on my gr gr grandfather, Johann J. Bergen b. 1862, who immigrated to America and settled in Kansas. The family originated in Russia and were of Mennonite Faith.

I have had the Federal Immigration search for any immigration records for my gr gr grandfather and they were unable to locate any. I am now beginning my search within the county that his naturalization would have taken place.

I know that his father's name was Jacob Bergen and I am beginning to think the family came from the little mentioned village of Kontieusfeld, Molotschna, West Prussia. I found one and only one mention of a Jacob Bergen who had a son, Johann, during the right time frame in the school records for that village. Unfortunately, the village is not mentioned on a frequent enough basis to be able to follow the family generations.

Does all this sound familiar to anyone else? If so, please let me know. You can also visit my website for other information on my Bergen Family line.

I hope to get to know all the posters well and let's have some fun on our frustrating and yet exhilarating searches.

Thanks --- Rita Neumann

Mary Hannah Bergen

My ggrandmother was Mary Hannah Bergen (born 1853) who married Francis Walter Hugh Bake - born 1859 - (not sure if that was in Australia as I can't find a record for this marriage in Australia). They lived at Hill End, New South Wales, Australia and had children - Walter, Mary Alice, Ernest, William, Christina and Augusta. I am told that Francis' father was a sailor from Scotland, who came to Australia at one time with a load of silk from China. Maybe he liked it so much he talked about it back home and his son decided to settle here. Christina married my grandfather, Harold Olman Mackney at Coff's Harbour in 1914. Can someone help me with any information on my ancestors along this line?
:-> Cynthia

Place of birth, Ireland

My gg grandmother, Maria E Bergen emigrated from Ireland via Liverpool in 1847 at the age of 4. She traveled with a servent, Mary O'Neill. She was adopted by the family of William Brown in Albany, NY. According to the census, Wm Brown was 25 yrs old and widowed with a 4 yr old daughter of his own in the 1850 Census. Family history is that Maria was adopted by either "family" or "friends of the family". I am trying to find her birthplace in Ireland. She was Catholic, and according to her death certificate, her parents were Michael and Julia (Bergen/Bergin/Bergan). Can anyone help me with where their Bergen families originated? She always spelled the name B_E-R-G-E-N. She married 18 1858 to a Protestant from County Down and she converted before the marriage.

Any help with possible place of origin appreciated!!!
