Hi Linda,

This is your cousin Cathy Cole. I have not been able to find any information about Grandpa Berghoff's family in Germany yet. From what mom told me They lived in Bremerhaven, Germany, the family supposedly owned a brewery. I might help your search for info in US with the right names. Of your dad's brothers and sisters. They are June, Edward Onald, Richard and Catherine. Aunt June's married name is Lanza. Your dad is the only living sibling left. Grandma Berghoff's maiden name is Morris.

I hope you are doing well. If there is anything I can help with or if you have any other info that I do not have I would appreciate anything you are willing to share. Say Hi to your dad for me.

Cathy Cole

I went beck to the beginning of this thread so I see how you're related. Did you ever correspond with a gentleman from Wales who lived in Florida about the Burkhardt family? I've forgotten his name right now. He'd sent me a gedcom on a floppy disk that I never got put in the computer so I gave the floppy to a friend of mine to make a CD for me. Am waiting for it to be sent back. Will share it with you.

Sue,
We may have been in contact once before. My ggrandmother, Rosa Burkhardt Lauer, was the sister (half) of Helena Burkhardt Berghoff, first wife of Nicholas. I do have some additional information on Helena's oldest full sister, Mary Burkhardt Auer, since we were last in contact. If you would
like that info, I would happy to pass it along and would love any new findings you might have on the Berghoff line.
Barb Boyle

I would like to talk to you more about the Berghoffs. I would find it strange if the Berghoffs of Roman and the Berghoffs of Suceava were not related given the proximity. I would also like to find out more about my family tree. It would also be cool to find a relative that I didn't know about. I can be contacted via e-mail: drgenstil@yahoo.com

I was surprised at how quickly you responded given how long it has been since you made your initial posting - 2001.

Tom

I have spoken to Alexander Beider, an authority on Jewish surnames, about the surname BERGHOFF. He believes it is what he calls an "artificial" surname, assigned by clerks in the Austrian Empire.
I am aware of the BERGHOFFs from Roman, and have a bit of information on your family tree. I have wondered if they are related to my family, or merely a separate manifestation of an assigned name. I would love to discuss this further. If you post your email, I will write back.

Bernard L Berghoff

My name is Mike McDonald. I'm trying to search for a Bernard Leland Berghoff who would have been born in 1940 in, I believe, West Virginia and was a son to Bernard S and Bessie Violet (Williams) Berghoff.

Bessie was a daughter of Earl Cross and Rosa Violet (Darrah) Williams. My wife's grandmother is a sister to Bessie. I believe that he may be living in Tallahassee, Florida since it appears that his father may have passed there.

Mike McDonald
Michigan

[Please note new address]
I am still researching the BERGHOFF family who lived in Suceava, Bukovina, Austria, [now Romania] in the 19th and early 20th c. There was also probably a branch in Germany [incl. Hamburg and Kiel.] My great-grandfather, Jacob BERGHOFF, immigrated to Canada ca. 1885 where the name became Barkoff, and some of his children subsequently moved to the USA. Some family first names included: Simon, Edward or Itzak, Brina, Hersh or Harry, Keile, Sarah Malka, and Hannah.
