Irving W. Bergman
Irving W. Bergman, 84, of West Hartford, passed on Thursday, (July 31, 2003) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 2, 1919, son of Frances and Max Bergman. He was a member of the Local 777 Plumbers and Fitters Union until retirement. He was predeceased by a brother, Saul Bergman, retired Navy; and beloved daughter, Nancee Rae Bergman. Irving is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Libin) Bergman; sons, Leigh Bergman of Hartford and Edward Bergman of New York; grandson, Aaron Bergman; granddaughter, Amber Stinski, both of Anthony, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2 p.m. at the Workman's Circle Cemetery at Garden and Cleveland Avenue in Hartford. The family will receive friends after the services at 2636 Albany Ave., West Hartford. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Francis ICU or a charity of your choice.

Thank you for your reply and offer of assistance! I am always happy to compare records but your Fred Bergman and the one I am researching are apparently not the same people...although both came from Germany (mine abt 1851) and both born abt the same time (mine 1827).

Does your cousin have access to World Ancestry.com? I am hoping someone can check that Ships Crew record for me. I don't have the World version yet and don't want to subscribe for just one look-up.

Hi,

According to my records Fredrich (Fred) Bergman came over from Germany. In the 1905 census in Millwaukie WI Fred show he was 76. His wife Mina, unknown last name at this time was 74. His DOB: is about 1829. His descendent down the line, actually I believe his grandchild or ggrandchild was my ggrandfather on my dad's mom side. I will research the other records, and what I do not have access to, my cousin does. Hopefully, I will be back with you soon. I would also like to compare records with you if you do not mind. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm pleased to be E-Mailing a resident of Blairsville. I was fortunate enough to return to Blairsville this year for the funeral of an aunt. At any rate, Sarah Baxendell Auen Bergman was born a Baxendell, Married an Auen and finally married Ernest Bergman. Sarah was my great grandmother. Information that I have is as follows:

Sara Elizabeth Baxendell daughter of John Elliott Baxendell and Hannah Elizabeth Taylor was born on 03 Oct 1873 in Coal Valley, Allegheny Co, PA. She died on 11 Jan 1942 in McKeesport, Allegheny Co, PA.

Notes for Sara Elizabeth Baxendell: General Notes:

Baxendell's were from the valley north of Pittsburgh. After Jacob's death Sarah married Earnest Bergman and lived in Blairsville, PA. The couple did not have any other children.

MRS. SARA ELIZABETH (BAXENDELL) BERGMAN

Mrs Ernest Bergman of Blairsville whose death occurred January 11,1941 passed away at 1:10am Sunday in McKeesport Hospital. A daughter of John and Hannah Elizabeth Taylor Baxendell she was born October 3,1873 at Coal Valley. Mrs. Bergman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Reed of Melcroft, Mrs. Bertha Miller of McKees Rocks and Mrs. Helen Reed of Cleveland: four sons Charles Auen of Livermore, Jacob Auen of the state of California and Harry and Paul Auen both of Blairsville: four sisters Mrs. Mildred Braum of West Elizabeth, Mrs Ruth Hughes of Duquesne, Mrs. Ethel Ely of McKeesport and Hilda Watkins of Clairton: three brothers: Charles Baxendell of Dravosburg and Elmer and Thom Baxendell both of Clairton: 26 grand children and three great-grandchildren: four step sons William Bergman of Blairsville, J Bergman of Jacksonville, FL, Geo Bergman of Salem, O and Frank Bergman of Sebring and a step daughter Mrs. Michael Machak of Sebring, O.

Funeral services will be conducted inher late residence, 376 North Walnut Street at 2:30pm, Tuesday. The Rev Joseph C Stuart will officiate and interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery.

Note: January 11, 1941 was a Saturday, January 11,1942 was a Sunday. I believe that the date is a misprint since the article was written January 13, 1942. Her Death Date should be 1/11/1942

Ernest Bergman and Sara Elizabeth Baxendell married. They had the following step children:

i. William Bergman.

ii. J Bergman.

David Scott Bergman, 38, of Oak Grove died on Friday, July 17, 2009, at his residence.

Dave was born Dec. 13, 1970, in New Jersey to the late Arthur William Bergman and Catherine Kotala Bergman. We was employed with White House Utility District.

He is survived by: wife, Pennie Ann James Bergman of Oak Grove; daughter, Bethanie Faith Bergman of Oak Grove; sisters, Sue (Mel) Whitmarsh of Texas, Shirley Dorris of Nashville and Jessica (Thomas) Hunter of Portland; father and mother-in-law, W.H. (Priscilla) James Jr.; sister-in-law, Tamie (Dwight) Brock; brother-in-law, Jesse (Jennifer) James; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Key, Daniel (Laura) Vanatta, Theresa Vanatta, Trista Hunter, Tiara (Eric) Howey, Sarah Dorris, Joshua W. Dorris, Alex Hunter and Irelynne Mae James.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 19, at Portland Funeral Chapel. Bro. Victor Creasy officiated the service. Interment was in Gallatin Meory Gardens.

My great great grandmother was Kate Agnes Bergman or Bergmann born in St. Louis, MO. August 1, 1863. She was the daughter of John Bergmann from Germany. She married Emil George Aberer (1855-1899) in St. Clair Co. IL. August 2, 1881. They had children:

Henry A. Aberer (1882-1959) My great grandfather

Ida Katherine Aberer (1886-1971)

George Aberer (1886-1948)

Bernard Aberer (1888-1923)

Kate died December 19, 1939 in Cole Co. MO and is burried at St. Joseph Cemetery in Johnson Co. KS.

I am seeking more info on the Bergman/Bergmann line especially Kate and her father John.

Hi Amy,

Thank you for responding to my query. I was doing some research on Caryl Bergman Muehlstein to find descendants of hers or a close relative but without success till now. I also had looked into museums that had collections for Broadway and / or the Ziegfield Follies without much success although am sure there are some. Am limited in what I can say publicly why I was researching her. Lets just say that it came to my attention about a personal item of hers that was found and I was trying to see that it was preserved and hoping to see it returned to her family where it belongs. Unfortunately I don't know where the item is now.

Caryl Bergman Muehlstein was my grandfather's first cousin. She was a Ziegfield Girl and was in several Broadway productions. I have an autographed photo of Caryl made out to my grandparents. Caryl gave my parents a wedding present and I've got it.

looking for information on jospeh bergman of cohoes ny . he worked in the watervliet NY arsenal designing guns for the miltary, he lived in cohoes ny never married, lived with mother and father. he died young in the 1968 of cancer. he loved to fish and camp. i don't know much about him. any information would be great.

Your information sounds related. The name changes happened because the brothers each took different names after arriving in US. I am in contact withanother long lost relative on the Jarl side & she has more details that I so I am excited to make that connection too. I believe that Gust was the frist brother to arrive here.

I have just started researching the Bergmans in South Dakota. The line I'm working on has two children who were born in South Dakota. I found them on the 1900 Twp. 93, Bon Homme Co., South Dakota, census.

Gus Bergman born July 1854 in Holland and Nancy (Rinkes) Bergman born Dec 1855 in Holland (both having immigrated in the year 1882) are the parents of the following children:
(1) Johanna (May 1884, Iowa)
(2) John (Oct 1886, Iowa)
(3) Nancy Bergman (Born 21 April 1889 in Iowa and died 29 Oct 1983, in Lamoni, Iowa) Nancy married Warren Silas Dunbar in 1910 in Iowa. She died 29 Oct 1983 in Lamoni, Iowa.
(4) Gus, Jr. (July 1892, Iowa)is still in Le Mar, Iowa, married with two children in June 1917 when he registered for WWI. According to SSDI, he died in Mar 1963 in Iowa.
(5) Johannis aka "Joe" (Dec 1895, So. Dakota)
(6) Edwin (Feb 1898, So. Dakota) died 29 Oct 1986 and is buried in Lamoni Cemetery.

he could be the younger brother of Charles Henry Bergman (who placed the letter, h, after g when immigrating to the US). Their father was named Julius Cason Bergman, Surgeon, who was in the Franco-Prussian War. Charles Henry was my grandfather. It is alleged that we are related to Ingred Bergman, who was born in the same Swedish village as my grandmother. I think the village name is Vixen.

I'm looking for any information about a mr Herman Bergmann born 1865 heligoland isle of bight germany,( He was in the Merchant Navy and believed to have been a fuelman) married an Ellen McCarthy in 1884 in Stepney london, had two children Herman and Mary. Herman Junior married a lady called rose sometime before 1914 and had a few girls. and Mary was my Great Nan.

Any information about either Herman would be greatly Apprecitated.

Interestingly, I have a document where Chris Jr. wrote his name as Bergman and Rebecca wrote her name as Bergmann (two n's). Church records use two n's also.

I do have a great wedding photo that is supposedly of her and my great grandfather. My next quest is to send it to someone who will date the photo for me and see if I'm on the right track.

I will start with me. Wayne Bergman Born to Alan Bergman Born to Walter Bergman Born to Lewis Bergman who's Father was an immigrant to New York from what I could read a place called Prussia Poland. Lewis Bergman's Mother's Name was Lena I believe. I will post with more info as I get it.

Abraham Bergman Immigrated to the US about 1883 the 1900 Census shows him living in Manhattan Borough Married to Lena. They had 3 boys: Louis Brn 1891, Benjamin Brn 1889, and their third son I could not make out.. Began with Is... Brn 1893 He had one daughter Name Pauline Brn 1895 (Enumeration Dist: 81; Sheet # 59 Enumeration Date: June 25 1900)

Louis Bergman in the 1920 Census showed he was 28 married to Sarah who was 25 and they lived at 2501 Marshall St. With 2 sons: Walter (Age 5)and George (Age 6mon) (1930 census - Vol 232 E.D. 440 Sheet 9 Line 13) From what I have learned from family Sarah Changed her name at some point after this to Shirley. Also thru family I learned that Louis had a candy store at some point. Also was a private Detective. Shirley's maiden name was Olshansky. She ended up moving to Miami Florida.

Walter Bergman Married Jean Salzman Born 1915 and had 2 boys. Alan and Melvin Bergman then later remarried and had a third son - David.

George Bergman Married Doris Stern and had three Boys - Ronald, Stephen, and Ricky.

I am the Grandson of Walter and the Son of Alan.

Looking for descendants of Johan Mathias Bergman (1827-1903) & Martha Katerina Jonsdotter (1830-1873) from area Hoganas Sweden. Son Janne (b.1854) went to sea, to America and eventually Australia. Son Martin (b.1857) went to sea to America, NZ and eventually Australia - this is my line. Descendants of their son Axel (b.1852) went to America & operated the Bergman Sweden House, I think in Maine.

Christoph 1860-1926 married Rebecca Carr 1861-1921 (from Wisconsin)mother and father of George Henry Bergman. The family lived in Forest Park, Illinois.

I think Christoph and Rebecca are buried in Concordia Cemetery, but not verified.

My name is John Bergman. I am the great grandson of Martin Bergman, who migrated eventually to Australia in 1874. He was the brother of Axel and Janne (who we believe was lost in Australia). Marin married Eliza Moss and had 4 children. My grandfather was Frank Bergman, and my father Douglas Bergman. All decendants of Martin live in Australia. I am a descendant of Carrie's sister, Nellie. Nellie has two living daughters in the Elgin, NE area: Gladys Bauer and Irene Havel. I spoke with Gladys this morning about Carrie and their parents. The parents, AA & Hadda are barried in a cemetary in Boone Cty. Gladys didn't know that Nellie had a sister named Carrie. The girls knew of Laurie, Minnie, & Albert, but no mention of Carrie. This may becuase of the early death you mentioned. I sent you an email at the yahoo address posted with your thread. Feel free to email me with further questions & will talk with Irene & Gladys. Gladys mentioned a cousing through one of Nellie's siblings, but stopped hearing anything several years back. Maybe that is due to their death.

You are so welcome. Any help I can give I'll be happy to. I do recall seeing a census report that did have a Louise or Louisa Burgmann on it, and had a daughter of the same name. I'm not sure if this will be helpful at all or if you've possibly ran across it yourself. The spelling was BURGMANN. Since our last correspondence I've learned a great deal and the biggest thing is, not to limited myself to what these census reports say as gossiple in which i was doing. There are many, many mistakes on them. I wish you the best in finding your ggrandmother's information. Again, keep me posted and I'll still keep my eyes open for you as well. Have a great day.

There have been many Bergman(n)s in Adams County IL...since 1848 or so. One was a Christopher Bergmann who, along with his wife Reka/Fredricka Bierman were married here in 1872...and then they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth (as far as my research finds) after 1880 along with his children, Willie, Margaretha Clara and John. Don't know if this Chris(topher) Bergmann might be tied to yours or not.

I have family items belonging to a family associated with BERGMAN, FREDRICKSON, PETTERSON, REHLEY. I will give to you for only the mailing cost. An 1890 German Bible, notebooks, confirmation cards, etc. This family lived in the Jamestown, Salamanca, Allegany Co., New york area in the late 1890's into the 1900's.
