Bergman, South Dakota early 1920''s

Do not know my great grandfather's first name but he was a coal miner in SD, he was killed in a coal minning accident. My great grandmother Gertrude and Grt. Grandpa Bergman had two children Darrell and Flora. He died when my grandpa Darrell was still a toddler so when Gertrude remarried her new husband adopted my grandpa Darrell and aunt Flora which changed there name from Bergman to Fredin. Was wonding if I have any relitatives who would be willing to meet me and hear where the Bergman family blood has deciended too. Any info would be appericated on the Bergman family from South Dakota, believe Sweden was home before SD. Cannot be sure no one in the family ever talked much about the Bergman family I think because it opened very old and sad feelings, broken hearts.

The Great-grandmother who never existed......Raak/Bergman/Bergmann

I am at my wits end after a year of searching for my great grandmother, Louise Raak Bergman.

I have not been able to find any birth record, death certificate, marriage license nor any other information about this woman....but I have her photo along with my mother's and aunt's recollections of her. I know she existed but after hundreds of hours of searching, I am no closer than I was when I started.

SUPPOSED info:
Born: Louisa Raak
Country of birth: Germany
Approx year of birth 1864
Immigrated into the U.S, arriving into the port of Galveston, Texas.
Marriage 1879 to Frederick Bergman (have marriage photo but date was written on back many years later).

CERTAIN info:

Gave birth to my grandfather,Herman August Bergman in Cuero, Texas, December 1888. Other children were Sophie, Mary, Clara, Emily, William and Robert.

Louise/Luisa was not a good parent and my grandfather was removed from her care and raised by his grandmother, Sophie Bergman. (I'm told her maiden name was Halbe but who knows).

Family LORE:

Louise was supposedly so mean and hated by all that she was cast out by family and buried in the negro slaves cemetery (please forgive me for even posting this hateful info but I'm just passing along what all my great-aunts tell me). I know that did not raise her own children. My great-aunts also corroborate this information.

I cannot pinpoint the year of her death but her husband, my great-grandfather(Frederich/Fred/Fritz Bergman, who was just about as mean as she was), lists himself as widowed (and remarried)in 1910 Houston, Texas census.

Sources searced:
ancestry.com
rootsweb.com
galveston immigration records
texas cemetery/burial records
birth/death/census records for the period
dewitt county birth/death records

Sorry for long post but my mother, who is 79 years old, is anxious for me to solve this puzzle and I don't know where else to turn.

Thank you in advance.

Rebecca

BERGMAN, GUSTAV in 1978 in Iowa City, Iowa

Looking for Gustav Bergman. In September 1978, he was at 1224 Grand Avenue, Iowa City, Iowa.

This gentleman was named in the will of Berta B. Weisz who had outlived her husband Dr. Hans Weisz.
Having escaped from Austria, Dr. and Mrs Weisz settled in Maine. They had no children.
It's understood on return visits to their homeland, the couple never found their relatives.
For over 20 years, this doctor and his wife were important people in Lincoln before University life at Orono, Maine.

The Lincoln (Maine) Historical Society's Book Committee is gathering material for it's next publication which will focus on Lincoln's medical and legal figures. Lacking children, it is more important to record their place in history!!!
Hopefully, Gustav can add to this couple's history. We're also curious as to Gustav's role in the Weisz' lives.

Bermann family in MD

Looking for information about a Catharina Bermann (or Berman) listed as a witness to the baptism of a child of some ancestors of ours. The ancestors are Peter Leffler, born 1772 PA, and his wife, Catharine and the baptism was of their daughter, Bessie Leffler, born Sept 19, 1795 and baptized May 1, 1796 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Reformed Church near Clear Spring, Washington Co., MD that was on Route 40. Peter and Catherine Leffler migrated and settled in Rushcreek Twp., Fairfield Co., OH by the 1820 census, but they had several children in MD.
I believe the Catharina Bermann that was the witness to their daughter's baptism was Peter Leffler's mother, Catharina nee De Hart Leffler, whome I think probably remarried after Peter's father's death around 1777.
Can anyone claim this Catharina Bermann that was in Washington County, MD at least between 1795 and 1796 or give me any information about her parents or siblings?
Would really appreciate any info at all.

Becki Blair
beckiblair@hotmail.com

Charles (1858) married Jennie Swanson in Wisconsin or Michigan, moved to Washington state then California. John never married, lived with Charles and family. Charles and John arrived in US about 1881/82. Parents were probably Anders and Lovisa, who remained in Sweden.

Katie Bergman, born Oct 1870, dau. John/Martha, lived Kossuth Co., IA

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Katie Bergman”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1890, in Germania, IA, which later changed its name to Lakota, IA – in Kossuth Co. Katie looks to be about age 20.

I found “Katy” Bergman in the 1900 census for German Twp., Kossuth Co., as age 29 (born Oct 1870), daughter of John and Martha Bergman.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to the Bergmans of Kossuth Co., IA.

Searching for family of Harold Bergman and Percy Sylvester Bergman from Binghamton, NY. I believe they had brother George and several sisters. But I'm not sure of the sister's name. I remember my mother telling me that her grandmother Bergman was born in Germany, we believe it was Berlin. Some of the Bergman's lived behind Ross Park in Binghamton. Percy Bergman (also known as Red) was my grandfather. Any information or connection to my mother's family would be greatly appreciated.

BERGMAN - FINLAND

While researching my family, I found a great-aunt by marriage whose father, Johannes Bergman (born abt. 1877), came to Camden, New Jersey in 1912 where he married an Edith Mattson. He listed Mariehoma, Finland as his home (apparently, Edith was also from this same area, but came over the following year or so after him). This is a town, I believe, on the island of Aland, between Finland and Sweden. Family history says that he had a sister who was an opera singer, by the name of Marie Bergman. Does anyone have any information on this family?

Thanks for any help.

I just recently saw what was a rerun on "Unsolved Mysteries" in regards to a family bible of Charles Lazarus and Fannie Bergman. The story told of a gentleman looking for ancestors so that he could return or share the bible with them. Can't tell you much more than that. Hopefully someone on this board is related and this bible can be returned to its ancestors. Has anyone heard about this? I'd be interested in hearing about what happened with this. I am not an ancestor but the story was very intriguing so thought I would pass it on.
