Adolph and Max BERK

A lady has contacted me looking for any descendants of Adolph and Max Berk of Logan County Oklahoma. She has found a photograph of Adolph and Max from sometime in the First World War in their uniforms. She would like to return this photo to a member of the family if possible. There is more information on the family at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~oklogan2/familyphotos/berk...

William Berk of PA blank fraktur art

Does anyone know of a William Berk who lived in Pennsylvania and may have colored fraktur art? (old PA German art form - often baptismal, birth and death certificates) I am doing some research on one that at the bottom, says "filled out by Wm. Berk" and then gives a location, but I can't make it out. Looks like, "R__ld" PA. There's no personal data on it; this is one that was colored, but not used by filling in with data. Was there a William Berk who did this work often?

In researching my family line (not Berk), I came across information from St. Boniface Church in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, PA indicating that George Dan Berk was married to Emma Troester. Date of birth was probably after 1900 since the record was for the baptism of their son in 1930. Hope this information is helpful to the Berk researchers.

Emigrated Berk from Heddersdorf, Hesse, Germany

I found the following data in the emigration-records of the small town of Heddersdorf, Hesse, Germany. Maybe it's of any help to somebody. I'm afaik not related to these people so pls don't ask me about details, I'm just forwarding the information.

Conrad Johannes Berk, born 24.07.1851 in Heddersdorf, em. in 1867 to either the USA or Canada. Conrad Johannes Berk is the successor of Nicolaus Berk and Conrad Johannes had to get the O.K. from his custodian for the emigration. He had a sister (name unknown) who already lived in either the USA or Canada.

I don't know if the next person is related to Conrad Johannes altough I think so but don't know how so I'll have her in this same posting as it might help somebody familiar with this family to see the connection.

Martha Elisabeth Berk, em. 1870 to either the USA or Canada. She is the daughter of the wife of Johannes Klippert of Oberaula who had Martha Elisabeth in her first marriage.
Rev. John Berk in Nebraska/Katherine Barbara Plattner

I am Kari Plattner-Simpkins and this is going to seem a little strange. I have been working on tracing my Plattner families, some at one time lived in Hastings Nebraska. My father found an old letter from a John Berk who was the above's grandson. In the letter (which was written to my great Aunt Bess Williams) (Sarah Bessie Plattner), he's asking for some assistance in tracing his grandmother, who was Katherine Barbara Plattner (Katherine could of been spelled with a C) It seems Rev. Berk was married the first time to Katherine Plattner. It mentions that Rev. Berk was the first preacher of the Hickman Presbyterian Church. The letter is a little confusing, but if this sounds at all familiar to anyone, I'd love to hear more. I believe John Berk has passed, as he was about 82 years old when he wrote the letter. The letter is dated 10-3-1978. And I also have another letter from him dated 12-18-1978 to my Aunt Bess. He mentions that with the help of a college in Dubuque Iowa, he found a write up about his grandmother Katherine Barbara Plattner Berk. He was curious to find where she was buried and I would love to know if he ever found her, because she could of been related to my Plattners, possibly my great great grandfather's Nicolaus sister. Any information is welcome.

Elaine, I have a birth certificate for my father Thomas Omalley and it gives the name of Mary A. Burke as Mother she was born in 1879 in the U.S.A. but it doesn't list a city on the birth certificate.I live in a little town outside of philly .The Burke is spelled different then your Berk.I am just as stumped as you .Emily

I don't have a Charles Hoff who fits your dates, so it must be another family. The Hoff family reunion is interesting -- if there are any descendants of Wesley Sylvester Hoff (1869 - 1939), or his parents, Simon Peter Hoff and Catherine Young, I'd like to hear from you.

Side note: my Mary Berk turns out to be Mary Berg.

No I don't know my great Grandmothers name as she died in 1950's on the first of January. I know the date of death was January 1st but not sure of the year. That is long before my time.

I know my great grandfather had an antique store in Greenville I visited as a child. I know he has a sister named Charlene Hoff and there were 5 to 7 kids total.

I believe the parents name were charles and Iva. They were married somewhere between 1890 and 1900 as we had the 100 anniversary in the last 15 years as my daughter was born and attended that family reunion.

Berk family from Lithuania

Does anyone out there know anything about the Berk family from Lithuania? My Grandfather Joseph (English spelling) changed his name to Burke, and was born in Vilnius in 1872. His mother and father were Feiga and Isaac (English spelling). Brothers Aaron, Abraham (Berk) and Zadok. Sister Beila. Joseph went to London, Abraham went to America, and I don't know where the others went, or indeed how they spelt their names. However, the original spelling was Berk, as I have seen my Grandfathers birth certificate. Are these your ancestors????

Your inquiry is very interesting. My great-grandfather was Geroge Franklin Hoff (Sr.) born in Ohio, maried to Mary and had a brother William, and Ed. My gr-grandfather was born in New Madison, Ohio, now Dayton?, and moved to Lake City Colo. where he was a teacher and attourney. He married my gr mother and moved to California in the late 1800s.

I am looking for information on his father who we believe to be Jacob Hoff. He fled Bavaria (Hof principality) after May, 1849 and settled in Ohio.

Does this information match up with your?

Chris Lange
I am not able to find my family. I have leads. I have a grave site. My grandfather GEORGE WILLIAM BERK m. ANNA M. FIEGER in the late 1800's. They resided in Philadelphia. They had 8 children. GEORGE BERK JR. had 12 children. All lived in Philadelphia. It would seem possible that a lot of people searching for BERK's can start with this line. There are many BERKS in Berk's County. Even 2 of mine resided there in the 1950's. However, I have not made the connection with the Philly BERKS and the large family in Berks County.

I have recently located my family in philadelphia. I go back to 1869 when George Berk was born. I do not know where he was born. But he had 7 children. I hear the original name is Von Berg. He had a cousin who was a minstral called "Happy Thompson".
I am waiting info from the Catholic church.
It seem as if all these BERKs lived in the Kensington area of Philadelphia. I would like to hear from any of you, especially the person who is related to a George Berk of 1844. I have a few lines now and can start to verify links but will not as yet be able to go furthur than 1869. The church records are in German. Please contact me with any Berk links of Philly.
