Charles Berkheimer

I'm looking for the parents of--or any information on--Charles Berkheimer, born about 1853, in PA or NJ. In 1880 he lived in Baker's Summit or Ore Hill, PA. Married to Mary Jane Magee, daughter of Samuel Magee and Margaret Lear. Had the following children: John, Samuel (my great-grandfather), William, Anna, Elsie, and Thomas. The only time I can actually find him is in the 1880 census. His wife was widowed by the 1900 census. If this family's naming patterns hold true, I'm guessing his father was a John Berkheimer. I'd greatly appreciate any help!

I am looking for descendants or family of the above...DOB..6/18/1842 who fought with the PA 49 Co. C in the Civil War. I think he had one son Wm, E born 1877, but I don't think he ever survived to have a family of his own. His 1st wife was Carrie and his 2nd was Sarah M. and they had no children. There is a John Berkeimer in my tree, but this is the wrong one and I have military info on JEB.

Dale Edwin Berkheimer

I am looking for information regarding a Dale Edwin Berkheimer who was born in Monroe County OH. It appears he was raised in an orphanage in Monroe County with perhaps his brother George Thomas. In the 1910 Census there is a Tabitha Berkheimer in an Ohio infirmary with a small child named George Thomas. She is 29 at the time and has since deceased. I am at a loss as to who the parents of Dale Edwin were. Dale Edwin ultimately married Helen Giles from Maryland.

Anyone that can help me with the parentage or a story regarding Dale Edwin, George Thomas or Tabitha Berkheimer would be appreciated. If Tabitha is the mother of these children, then likely Tabitha's father would be William.

I'm a very old thread, too. I am not, however, a cousin. I am no relation to any Berkheimer. My queries back then were part of research for a regimental history, which since has been published and followed up with two more.

Dennis W.
I know this is a very old thread, and I probably don't have any more information than you do. But I'm a descendant of Jonas, another son of Johan Heinrich Berkheimer and Barbara Joseph. Just wanted to connect with some distant cousins!

I actually don't have Joseph Berkheimer in my tree, so any info. about him would be helpful.

Thanks,
Leslie Berkheimer Wagner

John Albert Berkheimer

I am trying to reconcile two seperate lines for John Albert Berkheimer (b 6 Aug 1857) married to Mary Melinda Ringler (b. 1 Sep 1860) on 2 Jun 1875. I have seen his parents recorded as John Albert Berkheimer Sr (b. 1831) and Mary Catherine Dull (b. 1833), as well as to Vainture (b. 1825) and Catherine (b. 1824). It would be nice to think that Vainture is some sort of a nickname for John and that Catherine and Mary Catherine are the same person. I have a difficult time reconciling birth dates. Does anyone have hard information that would establish one of these lines as correct?

I'm back working on Barkhimer again.

In review of your post regarding Simpson Barkhimer's obit which may have been printed or copied incorrectly -- "Mr. Barkhimer came to California in 1908 and settled on a ranch in Stenison Colony." It should read "Stanislaus County" not Stenison Colony.

I may have made that correction before and have forgotten.

Diane Barkhimer

Also have the will of Sam.
What I have on Lenora is: married 1827 Belmont co Ohio, Absolum Carr Wilcox,b.1804 Pa, d. 1879.
Possibly they were divorced in Ohio prior to 1839 when Absolum married her sister Elizabeth. Lenora eventually living in 1886 as named in her father's will of that year...as Mary L.
I've been working on the Barkhimer line for 35 yrs and still can't find my Frederick Barkheimer and wife Mariah Miller parents. They were both born in PA about 1804 and 1813 and lived their lives out in Tuscarawa Co, Ohio. There was also a Samuel Barkheimer there who I believe to be Frederick's brother, but can't prove it. I am thinking only Margaret and possibly Sam are buried there.
Are they your relatives or do you just live near there? He was my great great great great grandfather and I can go back as far as him in 1790 but not before.
Would love to hear from you!!!

All are living in Pa. by 1818.
A reference in "Bowser Family History" says that they may be the same family.

Sally Jane Miller Berkheimer 1889-1959 Christmas Poem

(This poem was written by Sally for her daughter Anna)

CHRISTMAS --- by Sally Jane Berkheimer

Santa Claus into the window peep,
to see if they all are in bed.
But there he comes down the chimney,
scratching his wise old head.

Up on the roof top he gazes.
Steams in a steady brow,
Thinking how a fellow so stout
could ever hope to get down.

But he never fails the children.
But what ever shall I do?
For I greatly fear the windows
are closed against me, too.

But down the chimney he really comes.
Each stocking he fills with care,
and the children know next morning
Santa Claus had been there.

I was just browsing message boards on Burkhammer/Berkheimers and found your posting. Do you know the parents names of John, Jacob, & William? I have Maria Salome Hallman & Johann Wilhelm Bergheimer/Berkheimer in my line, descending from Leonard, Henrich, Leonard, Henry, Charles Thomas, & Lovie(my grandmother). If I have any information that would help you, please communicate and I would love to share. I would also love to have access to the Hallman Family History since I only have names to Maria's father, Antonius(1671).
Hello!
I'm sorry for not responding sooner, and I regret I'm not able to help you with your inquiry. I have been the historian for the Hallman Family Association since 2001. The HFA is based in Skippack, Montgomery Co., PA and was founded in 1908. We trace our ancestry to Anthony and Maria Salome Hallman/Heilmann, who settled in Skippack in 1720. Past historians have been gathering the family genealogy information for the last one hundred years. There are several lines for which we have no information after the 3rd, 4th or 5th generation. I have been posting messages seeking descendants who can trace their ancestry back to those people.
John, Jacob, and William Berkheimer are grandsons of Anthony and Maria Salome's daughter, Maria Salome Berkheimer nee Hallman/Heilmann (1706 - 1745). They would have been born in the late 1700's (their brother George was born in 1773). Unfortunately, I have no additional information for these 3 members of the family, and no information for your William Frank Berkheimer (b 1913).
Good luck to you in your search!
Martha A Hallowell
Historian, Hallman Family Assocation

Berkheimer in Rostraver Westmoreland County Pennsylvania

From an earlier source record....A George Berkheimer is in the Westmoreland Co. Militia in the Revolutionary War, and in Deed Book 6, page 167 for Westmoreland Co. is found a deed for a George Berkimer who bought from Peter Fell, land "at the headwaters of Sawmill Run in Rostraver Twp. Westmoreland Co. containing 61 acres, 45 perches. In Deed Book 6m page 168 Westmoreland Co., on 2/13/1797, George Birkhimer of Rostraver Twp., yeoman, sold this land to Joseph Birkhimer for 100 pounds. This George of Westmoreland County could have been the son of Wilhelm & Maria Salome. Near Finleyville, PA., in Washington Co. is a "Birkhamer" cemetery, where lie the children and grandchildren of Joseph Berkhimer, of Westmoreland County.
In the old Rehoboth Preesbyterian Cemetery near Belle Vernon, Pa., are buried Nathan Burkimer, a member of the Baptist church, who d. Oct 25, 1839, age 51. Next to him lies the body of his sister, Keziah Berkheimer, who d. 11/17/1853, age 70. They were the children of John Berkhammer who made his will 1/28/1824 in Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland Co, PA and proven 5/1/1826. He mentions his son, John, his daughter Barbara Darr and her son, John Darr. (Barbara Darr was my Great XXXXXXX grandmother. She too is buried in Rehoboth Cemetery with her husband George Darr). further mentioned is Nancy Jones and his son George and Geroge's son, John, his son Joseph, his son Nathan and his daughter Keziah. If the youngest of these was born in 1783, then John could be the son of George who appears in 1782 in the Westmoreland Co. militia...another interesting surname that appears living with Barbara Darr and her husband George is that of Susannah Ogg after Barbara's death. Seeking family descendants - I am descended from Barbara Darr (nee Berkheimer). Email me (Steve Sika) at grady24@aol.com
