Classification: Immigration
Surnames: Markman and Traitengertz
1. My paternal grandfather, BEINICH MARKMAN, immgrated from Odessa in 1902 to Argentina and was settler on Jewsi agricultura colony sponsored by Baron Hirsch's "Jedwish Colonization Society.
2. My mother's family also immigrated about the same time
from Nemirov, in Podolia to Argentina. The family name was
TRAJTENGERTZ.
3. I have be corresponding with members of the MARKMAN family in Durham, NC and St. Louis, MO, whose grandafther
wet to Argentina about 1905/1906, also as a colonist, but who went to New York probably in less than a year. His name was Yankel MARKMAN.
4. Because both my family and the US family originated in
in towns not too far distant from each other, the Odessa branch could possibly have been from Nemirov originally, I would be much obliged if you were able to ascertain we we are indeed related, and if possible direct to archival sources I may consult in this regard.
Many thanks,
Denize MARKMAN
