Looking for these gentlemen and any info about the maternal grandfather of Jack E. and Stanley Berkowitz named Max Engel. Martin would be Max's son-in-law. Martin's wife was Ruth Engel. They were/are cousins to my father's family, Fischer, also from NY City. Max and my great-grand mother, Sitta Engel Fischer, were siblings, so Jack E. adn Stanley would have been her great-nephews. My father, Alfred Fischer, and my uncle, Norman Fischer, always talked about visiting and playing with Jack and Stanley. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Argentina/Brazil Markman family

1. My paternal grandfather, BEINICH MARKMAN, immgrated from Odessa in 1902 to Argentina and was settler on Jewsi agricultura colony sponsored by Baron Hirsch's "Jedwish Colonization Society.

2. My mother's family also immigrated about the same time
from Nemirov, in Podolia to Argentina. The family name was
TRAJTENGERTZ.

3. I have be corresponding with members of the Markman family in Durham, NC and St. Louis, MO, whose grandafther
wet to Argentina about 1905/1906, also as a colonist, but who went to New York probably in less than a year. His name was Yankel Markman.

4. Because both my family and the US family originated in
in towns not too far distant from each other, the Odessa branch could possibly have been from Nemirov originally, I would be much obliged if you were able to ascertain we we are indeed related, and if possible direct to archival sources I may consult in this regard.

Many thanks,

Denize Markman

My grandfather, Joseph Berkowitz came from Odessa, somewhere around 1900. He married my grandmother (Sarabella) and they had two sons, Leon and Ernest. Initially they lived in Brooklyn, then Bronx. I recall my father, Leon, often saying that the last name was originally Bercovici.
Ernest served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a talented artist and illustrator and an avid archer (bow and arrow). Leon worked for the gov't in Washington DC during that time. Leon and Ernest were estranged
Joseph Berkowitz died in 1946. His wife in about 1952,3,4?
I have not heard from my uncle, Ernest since then. Leon died in 1997. His wife Raynor (my mother) died in 1999.
I'm trying to find out if I have cousins out there whom I've never met.

Rose or Rosie Berkowitz - Married Louis Sapirman, 1905

I have discovered that my great-grandfather, Louis Sapirman (1885-1944), the son of Naftalie and Dora (Millenband) Sapirman, and brother of Sophie Sapirman Pinsker and Pauline Sapirman, married a Rose or Rosie Berkowitz in 1905, probably in New York, when he was 20 years of age. However, four years later, Louis married his second wife, Edith Brummer, who is my great-grandmother.

Is there anyone who has information on this Rose or Rosie Berkowitz, married from 1905-09 to Louis Sapirman of New York? Do you know whether she died before 1909, which is why Louis remarried, or if she was divorced? Do you know who her parents or siblings were? Did she have any children with Louis that you might be aware of?

Any assistance in this area will be highly appreciated. Me and my family have just come across this information and we are looking to find the source behind this mysterious woman.

If you have any information, please e-mail me at any time, and I will be happy to reply to you as soon as possible.

Mark Grossman
Grossman_Research@hotmail.com

I am searching for info on Hannah Berkowitz. She was married (in Kowal, Poland,I believe) to Naachin Kachinsky. Hannah died in 1898 or 1899 in Kowal,Poland. Her Mother's name was apparently Bilkah Berkowitz; don't know father's name. Hannah and Naachin's daughter was Yetta Kachinsky (my grandmother) who married Victor Cohen. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks

I'm looking for an Esther Berkowitz, neé Leiman. She is my great-grandaunt and we have very little information regarding her family. I would be most appreciative of any help. I don't know her date of birth, but her sister, my great-grandmother, Rachel Leiman Wanderman was born around 1892. Their father was Shraga Feivel Leiman. We don't know the mother's name. Apparently, Eshter and her husband had three children: Betty, Fred and Phillip. At one point, at least in her youth or early marriage, she lived in the New York City area. Thank you very much.

Berkowitz from Russia

Hi,

I am researching my BERKOWITZ line. My grandfather, MAX BERKOWITZ (1903-1998), was the son of ISAAC BERKOWITZ (1880-1956) and SARAH JERUSALIMSKI-ROSENTHAL. ISAAC had siblings: ABRAHAM, TILLIE, IDA, FANNY. Plus there were other siblings left in RUSSIA. Their parents were LEAH MILLER and HIRSCH BERKOWITZ. My G-GF came to the USA by way of London, England and his brother came by way of Canada. The 3 sisters did come to the USA too.

I would like to research the parents (LEAH HIRSCH BERKOWITZ) as far as their parents etc.

Can anyone assist me. I will share any info I have in my files.

Thanks,

Blaine L. Berkowitz

Anna Berkowitz Fox

Additional information about my grandmother Anna Berkowitz Fox. Anna's father (my great grandfather-name unknown) remarried shortly after my great grandmother died (we assume) and changed his name to Beck we believe around 1900, I have no idea what happened to my great grandmother, I don't even know my great grandparents first names. We do know that this family remained in the Weymouth or Boston area. We have no records of any kind and no oral history to fall back on. I am at my wits end on this extremely secretive branch of my family and any information would be greatly appreciated. Anna was very involved with the VFW in either Weymouth or Boston. Her brother's name was Moses, he never married and lived in Washington DC, which is where Anna met my grandfather William Fravel Fox who was in the hospital recovering from being gassed in WWI. Anna and William were great friends with Johnny Walker who was a Boston police officer. Anna's half sister Molly Beck married Johnny. I know I'm going on and on, but I am desperate for any information!!

My mother's Dad was a Berkowitz and the family lived in the South Philadelphia area though originally from Russia. He passed away in the nineteen twenties of an illness and his mother's life ended shortly thereafter. He and his wife Anna, nee Katsoff, had Meyer, Harry, Nora, and Zelda. Harry changed his last name to Harris. He had one son and the other daughters had girls so the family name ends for us. Any information would be helpful.

BERkOWITZ in CUBA?

I am trying to map out my family tree, but I'm having trouble finding out how Berkowitz ended up in Cuba. My family is from Cuba, and my father, grandfather and great grandfather are all Berkowitz. If anyone has any way to help me (i have very few living relatives, that I know of, and their recollection of family history is limited).

Please email me personally at ivonne@ivonne.com if you have any information that could help me in tracking down my ancestors!

THANK YOU! :-)

Ivonne Berkowitz
