hi anne-
i have 2 mahala berkshires in my tree: mahala born 1794 to john adamson berkshire (pennsylvania i think) and mahala born 1814 to william berkshire and ruth bradgot. i come from william's daughter dorcas.
this berkshire family lived around southern PA, northern MD and WV. some of them moved to ohio and indiana in the early 1800's. my line (william's daughter dorcas, wife of james dent) moved to illinois.
i've let my online subscriptions lapse, so i can't search census records any more. wish i could be of more help.
