Seeking Information On A Morris Berman who may have lived on Canal Street about 1905-1907.

Hello All

I have been researching my Mendelson ancestry for 6 years now. According to a 1907 passenger manifest on a Louis/Leibel Mendelson it states he was going to a cousin named Morris Berman. The address on the manifest is hard to make out, but it looks like canal street. Any one have a Morris Berman in their lineage that most likely was born in russia and maybe from a town called Mogilev. I am curious to find out the parentage of this Morris Berman and if he ties in with either the Mendelson line or the Katz line.

My Missing Berman Family

After searching for years for my Berman family who emigrated to America from England before the first world war, I have now found three of them in the 1930 American Census. They were living at 618 West 142nd Street in Manhattan and these three are Marian (used to be Miriam) aged 24, working as a secretary, her brother Henry aged 22, working as a saleman in "Radio" and their mother Sarah, aged 45. Still missing are Sarah's oldest child Barnett, and the youngest, Cissie. Any clues as to where I go from here?

Complete ino Bermans Bklyn

Bermans I am seeking came to U.S. from Constantine, Russia via Southampton, England on the vessel, Philadelphia. Arrived in Port of New York on Sept 4, 1904. They resided in various streets in Brownsville, Bklyn. 554 Sackman St., Powell St. and perhaps others. The Father was Max and the mother was Esther Miller Berman. The name they had upon arrival in the U.S. was NOT Berman. I do not have the information of what the real last name was and am awaiting a certificate of arrival from the U.S. Archives. The boys were, Harry who was born on Sept 11, 1902, Oscar and Abe. These are the English names they took. The only real name I have is Aron or Aaron which was Harrys Hebrew name. They have a bro in law, Jack Miller who had a United Cigar Store on Utica Ave and St. Johns Pl. Bklyn and cousin name Butch who owned a liquor store either in Brnsville or in E.N.Y. section of Bklyn. Many of the men were in the Bldg trades. Harry was a wood lather who died in 1942 at age 39.
Any information will be appreciated.
e mail, Shire1844@aol.com

Bermans in Ohio

I am looking for information on the Berman Family in ohio. My Granfather Herman Harold Berman was born on Jan11, 1903 in PA and died in Florida in Sept 1979. His mother was Rose Berman and his father might been Abraham Berman. Herman's siblings were Jack and Lillian. Jack might have been named Solomon but called Jack. Rose died in Florida at the Jewish Home for the Aged in Miami or Fort Lauderdale somewhere in the 60s or 70s. Jack died sometime between 1960 and 1990 in a mental ward on an instution somewhere in South Florida. Jack had 3 or 4 children including a daughter named Sandi Berman who still might be living in South Florida.
Herman Harold Berman was married more than 7 times and supposedly his wives left him when he could not produce children. He was supposedly cured on his ailment and then married my grandmother, Mary Latelle, in Kansas City, Kansas. They settled in Miami, FL. Herman somewhere along the line, before he married my grandmother, changed his name to James Everett Carter. He also served in the military and was stationed in Haiti at one point.
My father remembers hearing stories about living in Ohio and also stories about how Rose and Abraham (?) cam over from the white Caucus Mountains in Russians.
Please email me directly at Customcloaks@msn.com if you have any info.

Melissa

Berman was the name they used in the United States.
The name on documents of arrival indicate that they were named, Barmab, Marks the father, Esther Miller Barmab 37 upon arrival in the U.S. on Sept 3, 1904 with four of her possibly five or more children. Abraham 15, David 8, Rachel 4, and the youngest, Arke (Aaron) 2. The originated in Konstantine Russia, went to London and then on to Southampton where they boarded ship, Philadelphia and arrived in the Port of New York On Sept 3, 1904 eight days before the youngest turned 2 years of age. They were met by Husband Marks, of 176 Clinton St. NY. Later lived at 554 Sackman St. Bklyn, Powell St. Brooklyn and Arke when married lived at 546 E. 98th St. and later again on Powell St. There may have been a brother named Oscar too. Ellis Island Site indicates there were four other Barmabs who arrived in the U.S. No way of knowing with certainty if they were related but expect they were. They are: Nossen arr 1910, Peisi arr 1913, Neisel arr 8/06, and Josef Chaim arrive 11/06
Any information on them or their decendants will be greatly appreciated.
Martin Berman

Joseph was a tailor, who had numerous sisters and brothers in Worcester, Massachusetts.
I know that there were Sugarman cousins in Cleveland.
Because Berman is such a common name, I am interested in finding anyone with similar relatives.
Family Tree

I am trying to trace my's father's family tree. His father, Ike Berman was from Poland. I think Solvakia. He married Dora Tibe Miller from Russia. In the early 1900's , they migrated to England, I think to New Castle on the Tyme. Then sometime before 1910, they moved to Chicago. They
had two sons David and Joe and 4 daughters, Lillian, Kitty, Claire and Kip. They changed their name to Burman when they migrated to the States. You can contact me at stratton@scotsahoy.com
Berman family relatives

My maternal grandmother, Bessie, and grandfather, Joseph, came from Panevezys, Lilthuania, in 1910 and 1909. They went to Rochester, New York and had three children. Joseph was a tailor, who had numerous sisters and brothers in Worcester, Massachusetts.
I know that there were Sugarman cousins in Cleveland.
Because Berman is such a common name, I am interested in finding anyone with similar relatives. Please contact me by email--rose@ncisc.org.
