This is my greatgreatgrandfather.

I have a picture of his tombstone that I need to post. He came from Germany in about 1856 but I have been unable to verify this date other than a picture of his travel truck with that date on it.

His name was Berndt before he applied to be a US citizen when he dropped the "t".

His home town was Boersborn, Kusel, Rheinland-Pfaltz, Germany. (I don't know what that all means but my guess is town, county, state, country)

Yes, please share. I am researching the Bernd family who were farmers in western Pennsylvania and were originally from Bavaria (I think). My immediate Bernd family lived in the Carrick neighborhood of Pittsburgh, on the south side. My email is karin4467@yahoo.com. Thanks for posting.

Hello, I am not sure if this is the same Jacob, but I do have some information on a Jacob Bernd. I do know he died in 1898 at the age of 67. If this sounds like the right person I would be happy to share what I have and would be interested if you have additional data.

Berta Bernd

Berta was a common name in my family. They came from Koblenz and Hohensolms, Germany. Hohensolms is in Hesse and Koblenz is in the Rhineland. I have two Berta Bernds in my tree, but neither of them could have died as late as 1967. Is your family also Jewish? With Jewish naming traditions, it is very possible that your grandmother was named after HER grandmother. Let me know if this helps you at all.

I was browsing through this website and decided to put in my father's name, Arthur Eberhardt Bernd, and I came up with your request for information. My father was not from Georgia, but coincidentally I am living in Georgia, USA. My mother's name was Mary Kuhns Rutman Bernd. The Rutman ancestors also came from Germany.

My father, who is deceased, was born in Spinnerstown, PA, I'm not sure of the year, but he died in 1964 and is buried in Bethlehem, PA. My mother is still living and is 92.

He had three sisters, Katherine, Mary and Beulah who are also deceased. Supposedly, our ancestors came from the Black Forest area of Germany.

Arthur Eberhardt Bernd had three children, Elaine (that's me), Kenneth and Roger. Kenneth and Roger still live in Bethlehem, PA.

Kenneth has three children, Amy, Kenneth, Jr. and Mathew.

I don't know if any of this information pertains to your family, but it is interesting to know that the Bernd name is alive and well. I too, would be interested in knowing more about my ancestory.

Hope this info helps you out with your search. Who knows, we may be related.
