We seem to be researching the same Robert Arthur Berndt.

What is your source that his mother's maiden name was Cummins? Another source I found says it is Kaiser. Any idea which one is correct?

Interested also to know your source for info on Robert Sr. being in a Veteran's hospital since 1930.

Any further info on where & with which family/friends the kids ended up?

Since your post is over 3 years old, I'm hoping first that your email is still valid, and second that you've had time to research this name further.

What is your connection? Robert Arthur Berndt is the natural father of my ex-husband, and therefore grandfather to my kids. I knew little besides his name until VERY recently.

Clarissa

My husband, Jesse, is the youngest son of Robert and Fernande Berndt. Robert did die in Jacinto City, Texas in 1972 but he was not buried there. He was cremated and his ashes were laid to rest in Europe. According to Fernande both of Robert's parents had passed away by the time he was 18 and that's why he joined the Army. After he retired from the Army he moved the family to Jacinto City and they lived next door to his sister Julia. To our knowledge Julia has passed away but we aren't sure of the date. I would love to share information with anyone interested.

I think I am looking for the same Robert (Bob) Berndt (b. October 1920, d. March 1972) as you are!

He is a piece of a very complicated puzzle I am trying to put together:

My mom, Simone Letellier Gabel, came to the U.S. from France as a young girl in the early 1960s. Her mother, Yvonne Gabel, had a sister named Fernande already living in America, in Texas. My mom remembers her aunt Fernande being married to Robert Berndt and living in Jacinto City. When my mom, her sister, and her mother arrived from France, they all moved in with Fernande and Robert. Fernande and Robert had three kids (that my mom remembers), all of whom were much older than my mom: Patrick, Robert, and Evelyn.

Does this sound like it could be the same Robert Berndt you are looking for? Please email me if it is!

Vanessa

wzrlover@hotmail.com

I have not been able to Establish where our Elizabeth Berndt was born, or who her parents were. I only have one census record for her and she states on there that she was born in Ohio her mother born in Ohio and father born in Germany. It is a little unusual of a surname so it makes me wonder if they are connected. I sent for my Elizabeth's death certificate yesterday so maybe that will tell us something. Feel free to e-mail me at my address link. it would be nice if we could connect them. It almost makes me think with the names being the same that they could be related.

Hi, I am researching my family. I have an ancestor named Joseph Berndt (my Father said the original spelling was Behrendt) whose wife was named Mary Wilke Benchsynder. I have not been able to verify her whole name. They had several children, including the John you mentioned and my Great Grandmother, Augusta Mary Berndt. They lived in Illinois. She married Henry Charles Albright in Morgan County, Illinois. I have a little more information if you are interested. Hope to hear from you! Sally

Please see some of the information under Carolan and Berkery posted by me though out the years. My mother is a Reisner from Midland Michigan where most of the Reisner's came from except down in the Detroit area. But there is a Reisner street in Houston TX right by the Police Station. Charles Reisner was my grandfather. Married to Amanda Knake. His sister a Turdale, had 19 kids I think. His sister is still alive Nellie in a nursing home in Midland Michigan. I might have posted others under other names from Michigan. The court records show that they were Reisner's in Michigan. hugs Renee

I was just researching another ancestor and found that on one census her birthplace was given as New York, on another census her birthplace was given as Ohio. I would not trust any census record too far unless I could find other confirmation. By the way, my Elizabeth Clara Berndt went from Liberty Township in Porter County, Indiana to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just to give a quick overview. Do you think we might be connected?

Berndt surname in Porter County, Indiana

I have not stumbled across any references on this board to the Berndt family in Porter County, Indiana, but Fritz Berndt, b. 15 Apr 1862, who lived there, is my grandfather. His wife was Lena Tewes, b. Feb 1864. They had eleven children, ten of whom survived. They left Jastrow in Kreis Deutsch Krone to emigrate to the USA on the steamship Grimm on or about May 1891. The landed in Montreal, Canada, and travelled by train to Detroit, Michigan where they entered the USA. They were accompanied by their first child, Otto Berndt. I have considerable information about their life in Liberty Township, Porter County, Indiana, but I have reached a dead end going back across "the pond". Jastrow is now called Jastrowie, and is located in Poland in Pilskie. On a German site I learned that civil and church records for this area were destroyed in WWII. (waren vernichtet) Is there anyone on this list who might have any clue, no matter how small, as to where I might find records that will allow me to search in Germany (Poland)? This is the strongest and highest brick wall I have found in trying to trace my ancestors.
