KOPPERSTON — Chris Ann Berta Bailey Cook, 41, of Kopperston, passed away, Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C., following a long illness.
Born July 15, 1967, at Beckley, she was the daughter of John Berta Jr. of Chapin, S.C., and Frances Dillo Berta of Kopperston.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gladys Dillo, Mae Berta and John Berta Sr.
Chris was of the Baptist faith. She was a 1985 graduate of Oceana High School, where she played basketball and was a member of the band. She attended flight attendant school and loved to play bingo and go to the beach. She also enjoyed playing games on the computer.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Tony Bailey Jr. of Kopperston; a daughter, Amber Bailey and her fiancé, Patrick M. Webb, of Kopperston; a sister, Pam Ashby of Oceana; two nephews, T. J. Ashby and J. R. Ashby, and her grandfather, Woodrow Dillo of Kopperston.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana with the Rev. Algie Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
