Hello to all Berths out there

My name is David Berth i am from kingston Jamaica. The Berths are very few in numbers here in Jamaica; the little i know of my ancestry is that my great grandfather was of German origin and lived in the the rural parish of St. Elizabeth a province in Jamaica where the Colonial Germans inhabited when they first arrived here. I am curious to see the rest of Berths in my family tree.

Re: Frieda Hart BERTH

I just found out that her sister, Anna Marie Berth married William Albrecht on 1-12-1901 in Sheboygan County. According to the obits for Anna (d.1958), it mentions that one brother and one sister preceeded her in death. Plus it mentions that Anna is survived by Mrs. Arthur Feldmann (Frieda). So three girls and one boy. What I have thus far is her parents's were Mr. & Mrs. William (newspaper spells it, Willaim) Berth. Anna came across through Ellis Island where she lied about her age as you had to be 16 to come to the USA. She was only 12 years of age as she was born in 1880, Germany. Who she came with or if her real mother passed away is not certain. I have found that her parents either remarried in USA (New World) or William remarried in 1892. Their grandparents came 6 months earlier but don't know who they are according to my late mother as they spoke very little english at that time. Frieda was born on 5-7-1894 in Wisconsin. What I need to know is when Frieda passed away as then maybe the obits may help us. Frieda was married on 11-6-1920 in Wisconsin to Arthur Herman Michael Feldmann. He passed away in 4-1974.

Well.....sounds like we are related! My grandfather's family lived on a farm in Coleman, WI. I think I have been to Dick's house at one time in my life. My grandfather was William Otto Berth married to Adeline Zieman....he had a sister Harriet and she married Sam (can't remember their last names) and they had a farm in Coleman!!!! I remember staying on the farm and milking the cows! Does this help you figure out how we are related? I have a second cousin Gwen Berth who has a book on the Berth history. Keep in touch!
My name is Mike Buchenauer. My grandfather was Louis Berth. His father was Richard and mother Mary. They all lived in the Coleman area.

This last weekend we had the Berth Family Reunion in Green Bay. Randy Berth, a brother of Rollie on this board, brought a picture of the original 11 Berth's. They included Herman, Minnie, Henry, Richard, and Anna. One of the relatives knew the names of all 11 and I will be getting that information soon.

This will help tremendously. I have also started a family tree on line at www.familytreemaker.com. Under community, search by last name Berth. Then scroll down to Mike Buchenauer. From there you can view a small but growing tree.

If you can provide any further information, please do so. My email is mikebucky@aol.com

WOW! This is very exciting! I used to go to family reunions and my parents and I stayed at harriet and Sam's farm. I remember playing in the barns.

My Mom's cousin Gwen Berth has a lot of Berth family history. I will try and get her e-mail address for you. Please send me your e-mail address too. Thanks. Great talking to you!

Also, I'm trying to find out information about my grandmother (Adeline) and her family history. She married William Otto Berth (Herman's son). Her last name was Zieman and they were from Crivitz, WI. Her father owned the local Saloon and he was also the president of the bank.

BERTHs in WISCONSIN

Hello Tammie and Bill. I have just read your messages and I also have BERTHs in my family tree.

In fact Bill, your father and I are third cousins. Your great-grandfather William H. BERTH married a Helen C. KAUFMAN a child of Frederick C. KAUFMAN and Elizabeth SCHUMACHER. It is through the SCHUMACHERs that we first begin our connection of family trees. Other BERTHs in the SCHUMACHER tree include: Adelia(1912-1075); Norma(1911-1993); Arthur W.(1908-1987); etc.

The BERTHs are also in the family history of the RAUTMANN tree. In particular: Anna(1887-1951); Carl Jr(1853-1927); Emma(1885-1966); Wilhelmine(1877-19490; etc.

Tammie, I have yet to find an Otto, but I did find one Julius. He would have lived for at least some time in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. His parents name would have been Carl Berth, Sr. and Wilhelmine Lau. Julius' siblings were William, Frank, Fred, Anna and two other sisters Mrs August Bub and Mrs Herman Karsteadt. Let's continue to chat. We may still find a connection.

I can be reached at brucerautmann@hotmail.com and I would love to share information with either of you.

berth history

I don't know anything about my relatives in Wisconsin. I remember going to reunions as a child.....and I thought Dick Berth lived on a farm in Coleman, WI....but I might be wrong. My roots really start with Herman Otto Berth from Coleman, WI. He was my great-grandfather. My grandfather was born in Coleman too....his name was William Otto. He moved to Michigan after he married. The place I remember most is "The Farm". It was owned and operated by my grandfather's sister Harriet and her husband Sam....but I can't remember their last name. I also know of a second cousin by the name of Gwen Berth. She has our family records. Maybe we are long lost relatives. I'll let you know as I learn more.

Berth

I too am interested in the Berth name. My mother's maiden name was Berth. My grandfather's name was William Otto Berth and his father was Otto Berth from Germany. Otto moved to Wisconsin in the early 1900's and my grandfather grew up on a farm there, eventually moving to Flushing, Michigan. Many of the Berth family still lives in Wisconsin. I know my grandfather had a brother named Jules and a sister named Emma. I think there were other brothers and a sister but I can't remember their names.

Probably somewhere along the line.....these Berths from RI and from Wisconsin are related. It is such an unusual last name. don't you think?
