My great great grandparents were Alphonse and Philomena (Poirer) Berthiaume. I don't have a Dolphus in my tree, but I do have an Adolphe born in 1869. I have 11 children for them but no record of them going to Washington. But the family did go from Quebec to Ontario to Michigan and ended up in Arenac County. The actual area is now Ogemaw County. But my great grandparents who married in West Branch registered their marriage in Arenac County. Alphonse and Philomena are buried in Standish, the seat of Arenac County.

I am sorry I have no descendants for you. His brother, Joseph Wilfred, was my great grandfather and I do have an extensive amount of information on his descendants.

Alphonse and Philomene were my great, great grandparents. But I don't have a Dolphus in my tree. I have an Adolphe b. 1/22/1869. Handwritten names at that time were not universally spelled the same. If the date matches, perhaps this is the person we're talking about. If not, just provide me with as much information as you have and I'll see if I can figure out the mystery.

leia4@chartermi.net

Sandi

I find it interesting that your family chose to move to Arenac County. My great grandfather was born in Canada in 1880. He married my great grandmother in 1906 in Arenac County. But I do not find the people you mention in my tree. This should be fun putting it all together.

Mary, please start at the beginning. What do you know about Fred and Hattie? Birth dates, locations, death dates, locations, children, parents, etc. You need to provide something that someone else may be able to use as a hook to tie into your line. There are tens of thousands of Berthiaumes around (with various spellings) and without more information it's not likely any one will see where you fit in the big picture.

Alexander Berthiaume married Victoria Turngren (born 1883) in Minnesota and had seven children. Mary (Billie), Helen, Alice, Jerry, Jeanette (Jen), Fran(cis), and Elizabeth (Betty). Betty married Larry Leeder. I'm their grandson. So, Alexander Berthiaume was my great-grandfather. He died in Minneapolis around 1940.

Dale, in order to actually track the line backwards, you would need a little more information. Start by having someone ask your grandmother when and where your grandfather was born. With some luck that will get you back into one of the early US Census's. Once you have a firmer starting point there are a wealth of records available from Canada documenting the lineage.

A general observation - yes, the Berthiaume line can be traced back to Pierre Bertheome born about 1601 in Normandy, France.

2nd general observation - there is no real authentic crest or herald. Like 99% of all European immigrants the Berthiaumes were peasants. Every company that sells heraldry items creates their own designs. Total fiction.

If you can get the date and location for your grandfathers birth, I'll try and help you from here in the US.

Thank you for your service!

Hi, My name's Dale Berthiaume I was wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the right direction here. I'm trying to trace my lineage but I am having difficulties. I am a Berthiaume from Minnesota. My father's name is Dale Paul Berthiaume Sr. he has 11 brother's and sisters and His parents names are Raymond Berthiaume and Leone ( Calloway)Berthiaume I know that they lived in French Lake Minnesota in the early 50's for sure but I don't know too much more than that, my grand father Raymond died before I was born (1982) but my grandmother is still living. I would ask them but I am currently in Iraq again so it is a little difficult. I was Hoping that I could find the link to connect the minnesota Berthiaume's with the Massachusetts ones. I'm told that we came from France via Quebec. I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone could render in this matter. Also does anyone know what our True Heraldry looks like? I was shown a picture by my grandmother of it a long time ago and it had three swans on it, yet everytime I attempt to look it up it is always different and I have never seen the one my grandmother had shown me in my searches.
Sincerely,
SGT. Dale P. Berthiaume Jr.

The clerk may have tried to spell Berthiaume or Bercume. This is just a guess.
There was a Joseph Berthiaume and a Marguerite Berthiaume in the area at the time of his birth.
I have not been able to find the marriage of Joseph Berthiaume and Catherine Berard.
If you can research the 1850, 1860 or 1870 Census, see if you locate a Joseph, Marguerite with a son Joseph in 1850. Chances are you will have the correct one.

who was your grandmother? I can help you the best I can.. I am also related to dozens of Berthiaumes from Spencer, MA, like the rest of us!

None of the previous Berthiaume's ring a bell to me.. except for the Berthiaume that married a Blackfoot Indian. I know I am Indian and was told to be blackfoot, although that sounds very far back! My great great great grandfather was Joseph Berthiaume, supposedly born in Canada, and was married to Catherin Berard. I found their kids and I can go back pretty far on Catherine Berard's side, but as far as Joseph is concerned I have nothing. He was born ~1850. I also know on our family headstone in Spencer, MA, there is a Joseph Berthiaume born in 1829 but I don't know if that's his father..? If it is I don't know his mother.

Helppp!!
