Re: Rex Family - PA

I have a copy of Doris' document. It can get confusing because some people list Georg, as George and Johan and Johann. Or the first and second names get switched.

Bernhard (with an h)and his wife Anna elisbeth Orner (not Arner) had a son George Jacob Rex b. June 17, 1750. He married Anna Maria Yates.

Their son George Adam Rex, b. "about 1777", married Anna Maria Spengler. They moved to Stark Co., OH. I don't show a second marriage. No clue who Christine Weaver is. don't have children listed. There are not two George Adam Rexes.

Bernard Jacob's son Wilhelm Rex b. Feb 12, 1756 married Margaretha (unknown) and had 3 sons one of which is Johan Wilhelm Rex (exact spelling) Sept 24, 1781 married Maria Magdalena (unknown).

Anna Maria Hunsicker b. about 1755 married Johann George Rex (exact spelling). He was born about 1750. His parents are Wilhelm Rex (exact spelling)b. 1721 and Margaretha Rupert b. Nov 25, 1723.

I hope this helps.

Celine and doug

My late uncle, John Robert Berton of Shreveport LA., did some rather exhaustive and extensive research on the Berton name before he died a couple years ago. If either of you would like to find out how to obtain a copy of this book, let me know. I put a post on another thread containing my contact information, but I'll give it to you here as well. you can reach me at tonyberton@yahoo.com. I can then forward information as to how to get a hold of my mother, who will know how to get in touch with either my aunt or his sons. She told me that if I find anyone wanting information on the Berton family, to let them know. I hope this will help you both.

Tony Berton

James, my name is Tony Berton. I was adopted by Burdett and Jo Ann Berton in 1977. More recently, my uncle John Berton, who was my father's brother, did some fairly extensive research on the Berton Family, and had a book published as a result of his research. If you are interested, my mother has a copy, and she can tell me how to get a copy. If you would like to contact me, my email address is tonyberton@yahoo.com. Leave me an e-mail when you read this, and I will then send a reply as to how to contact me or my mother. She told me that if I happen to find anyone that is researching the Berton family, that she would be more than happy to help them, and so am I. I hope this helps, and good luck

John,
It seems that my grandfather was supposedly
born in Houghton co. Mich. But there is no record of him there.
I suspect that he might have been born in Canada and slipped across the border.
His father Richard may have been born in Penzance Cornwall, U. K. Tom may have been born there as well?
My uncle Richard says he thought that the name was welsh. perhaps they were miners, copper,
tin, coal? It's storied that Tom worked at Anaconda copper mine in Montana in it's early years. the 1890's?
I've been working on my Stevenson family line as time permits
Any hints or suggestions is welcomed!
Thanks Tom

Tom,

None of these are in my line. Do you know what county and state any of your ancestors were in?
If so, I would suggest you start with the census. You are lucky in a way, because after 1850 everyone one in the
family is listed by ame and age. Thus, you could go to the census data and perhaps find the entire family. Of course, they would have had to be
there when the census was taken, i.e. at the beginning of each new year period. There were bertons in the us as early as 1556 and the 1770 census listed a number.
However, they are not much help for you because you need later years to find the name of all in the family. I may be telling you things you already know so let me know if you have any experience in tracing your family. That will give me some
indication of what you might do.

John

Vince,

Haguenau is North of Strasbourg, in France. I tried to post a link to a map, but it didn't work. Go to Mapquest.com, they have it in their database.

The rest of my mother's family came from Hollenzoller and Hesse-Darmstadt in Germany (just north of that location); Wolschwiler, which is near Basel and almost on the border between France and Switzerland; Arlesheim, Switzerland, which is south of Basel; and Niederurnum, Switzerland, which is near Lucerne.

My father's family is from Poggioreale and Piana degli Albanese near Palermo, Sicily.

We live in SW Ohio.

Annie

I am studying the Ley family from Wolschwiller, France. The Berton (Breton/Burton) family they intermarried with in Wyandott County and Allen County, OH were originally from Haguenau, Bas-Rhin, France. Hope this helps!

Annie

The extra E on Bertone

I remember something from a class I took a long time ago in conversational Italian where the teacher said all Italian names end with a vowel. It may be that the extra E was added because the Italians prounounced it that way.

Incidentally, although my mother's family is French, Swiss and Bavarian, my father's family is from Poggioreale and Piana degli Albanesi in Sicily.

Annie

Dina Berton, his brother Franco's wife still lives in Schio. I will ask my father the name of my great-grandfather, who also moved to Australia in the 1920's

I am researching Simeon Berton (Burton), a French-Canadian, born in Canada Apr 1848. His first name is spelled Cimon on Michigan's 1880 Census, and Sam on Wisconsin's 1900 Census. He married Esther St Amour, probably in Ottawa, ON Canada in 1874. Parents of Simeon and Esther all born in Canada. Children are: Simeon (Sam), Josephine, Joseph, Victoria, Francois, Mary, John.

Mary BERTON or BURTON > England>Michigan

Seeking information on Mary BERTON or BURTON (1850-1873) who married Walter S. WEBB (1844-1898). They were found on the 1870 Jackson, Michigan, Jackson County Census. This says she was born in NY, parents of foreign birth. Family notes say she went back to England in 1871 with Walter to claim a legacy. They are born buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Jackson. Don't believe they had any children, but this is not confirmed.

If you know of my Mary, please get in touch with me, as I have no further information on her. Thank you.
