Pierre Rene' Bertrand (1767-1805) born in France, died in Haiti, is my 4th great-grandfather. I'm having trouble going back past there. I have his father as Simon Bertrand and mother Ann Trubert, his father John Bertrand and mother Charlotte de Jolie. I think that may be wrong. On the other side of my family, John and Charlotte de Jolie Bertrand had a daughter Mary Ann who married Charles Ewell, Sr. and the line is firmly documented down from there. My grandmother was Febeolia Bertrand whose father was Treffle
Bertrand who had a sister named Marcelline Bertrand. Their parents were Jean Baptiste Bertrand and Adelaide Menard. This might be a different Marceline because I show she was married to a Francois
Couture.

If you have any info on this let me know. I am looking for more information on the Treffle Bertrand.

I have researched the Mallette family in Ontario, Canada. Francois Mallette came from Napierville Quebec with his mother Zoe Lefebvre around 1865. I believe Zoe was married to Antoine Mallette in Napierville. I have been unable to verify this. Any help would be appreciated..

My gg grandfather and his brother, David and Zudic came from the "three rivers area of Canada". I'm not sure where this but there is a story that they rowed across the lake (Erie) to immigrate to Cleveland. David was born in 1850 in Rigaud. I assumed that this meant France but someone pointed out to me there is a Rigaud in Canada. Is this the "three Rivers area"? And could this be a match with your four brothers?

I am currently researching my step-dad's family. (LEGER,BERTRAND)in Louisiana. I do not have much info on the Bertrand side. I am hoping that someone can help me. My grandmother is a Bertrand and her Father was Edgar Bertrand Jr. Born Sept. 29, 1883 Died Nov. 12, 1972. He married Leola Frame, Born Aug. 12, 1895 and Died Feb. 3, 1974. They lived in Palmetto, Louisiana where they had 9 children. I know that Edgar Jr's father was Edgar Bertrand Sr. and was married to Matilda Nugent, she died on Sept. 25, 1951 in Palmetto, Louisiana.
Unfortunately, this is all the information that I have on this family. If anyone can help me, please e-mail me.

Jean-Baptiste Bertrand, Ohio 1791

Jean Bertrand Came to Ohio from France in 1791. He was one of the was the oldest surviving orginal settler of what was called the French Grant here in Scioto Co., Ohio. He married Scelastic (maiden name unknown) around 1802. He was 40, she was around 17. They had seven children: John (b 1804), Soffe (Sophia- my GGGGreat Grandmother), Julie, Felicite, Henry, Reizaly, and William.
I have more info (a long bio of Jean from the book, "Pioneers of Scioto County" by James Keyes). If you'd like me to e-mail you what I have, let me know. I would be interested in any info you have, also.

My William was born in 1880 in West Virginia. I got this information from his second son's birth certificate. However, about the only other thing I know is that his middle initial was L, we think for Lawrence. He married Vivian Wilkins in 1906 and had two sons, one born in Georgia and one in Washington State. If you have inforamtion about a Willima born in 1879 or 1880, please let me know. I don't have any information prior to this.

I don't know if this will help. I am new to this, too. I just recently found out the name of my G-G-G-G-Great Grandfather was Jean (or John) Baptist Bertrand. He was born around 1760 in Champaign, France. He came to the USA and settled on the "French Grant" (now Green Township) In Southern Ohio. He had a son named William (born in early 1800's), possibly your William's father? Anyway I have more info if this was helpful. K. Johnson

I am a late-comer on this, but my grandfather was a William Bertrand, born in West Virginia in 1880. He married my grandmother in 1906, had two children, and they then split up. I think William's father's name was Francis. I am curious about the four Bertrand brothers from Europe; if you have names, dates, etc, I would be very interested.

Hi Linda!

My name is Darrin Bertrand from Montreal, Quebec.

I have very little info about my family history, because my father left when I was only 3 so I do not really know that much, exept the same as you that there was four brothers that came from France. Normandy or in that region I think.
They came during the french colonization in Quecec in the 17th century. From there on I think one or two of the brothers may have went on to the US or could have been deported to Louisiana by the British. Witch would explain why there are quite a few Bertrand's in that area. I have foud out that my Dad in Louisiana but I have know way of knowing where.

If you have other info, please let me know.

I'm looking for infomation on a Lorea Bertrand who married Alpheus Hebert in Abbeville, LA in the mid-20's to early 1930's. Alpheus was born Feb 12, 1904. His father was Jean-Menhault Hebert and his mother was Leticia Hebert. We have his line, but nothing on Lorea's family. All of these Heberts were from Abbeville, LA.

I am currently researching one of the many Bertrand Family lines in Louisiana. My husband's mother was a Bertrand from St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. I have a lot of information that I am willing to share with you if you think these lines may cross. If you are not sure where to begin, Father Hebert from Louisiana published a series of books dating back from the 1700s until the year 1909 that lists all of the families in South Louisiana (biths, deaths, baptisms, marraiges). There is the idea in our family that Henri is related to us through Seraphin Bertrand 1807- 1899. They may have been brothers, an uncle, cousins, I don't know. Seraphin raised a family with Eulalie Constantineau in Prescott, Ontario, Canada. I would love any and all information you have. Henri was a legend in France and I so want to find connections to my family.

Do you have any Constant Bertrand's in your lines? My grandfather Alfred Francis Bertrand was born (1871) in Churubusco, NY to Constant Bertrand. That's not that far from Constable. I've have a very hard time confirming the tree that I have put together though QP to France.

Both of my grandfathers were born in Churubusco, NY in the late 1800's.

My tree is posted in the Public Member Tree section, if you can access that. It is called Tangled Roots and there is more information there.

Rosanna was the youngest of 4 daughters and 6th child of Jean Baptiste Bertrand and his wife. There are stories in several local histories about this man. He was one of the "French Five Hundred" who came over from France to settle in the US.

Confusion arose over Travis's last name because of difficulty reading the name in the marriage record and one source recorded it as Hurd but census records show different spellings of what is believed to be Herrell. They were married September 3, 1851 in Scioto County, Ohio.

I am descended from the eldest son, John Baptiste Bertrand Jr., and have been gathering info on the family and descendants for many years. Would love to connect with you and get more info.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died Oct. 14 in Qazi Bandeh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

I don't know much at all about my GrandFather's Mother said to be Louise Bertrand of the Plaquemines area. She had a brother but unsure of his name at this time. Louise married Eugene Mckinney.
