Hi,
Christian Bertsch and Julianna Seiberling are my 5th Great Grandparents. I only have Christian's father's name (Jacob). Do you have Christian's ancestors? Also I don't have Julianna's ancestors, do you have this in your research as well? Their daughter Margretta is my 4th Great Grandmother, I have her married to Jacob J. Kuntz with 4 children. Hannah Polly Kuntz is my 3rd Great Grandmother. I don't have much so anything you have will be greatly appreciated.

BERTSCH Duwayne L. 1938-2012 Ohio

AMHERST, Ohio — DuWayne Lewis Bertsch, 72 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Community Health Partners in Lorain, Ohio following a sudden illness.

He was born June 3, 1938 in Sandusky, Ohio. (Erie County)

DuWayne was raised in Lorain, Ohio and graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1956-B.
He joined the United States Army in 1956 and served in the Army Reserve until 1958.
DuWayne had made his home in Amherst for the last forty-two years.

DuWayne was employed in the engineering department at Nelson Studd, now TRW in Elyria, Ohio for twenty-six years. He continued in similar work with Spiegelberg Manufacturing for an additional seven years before retiring in 2001.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst.
DuWayne was a very skilled handyman; he enjoyed woodworking, remodeling and was a gifted craftsman and enjoyed taking care of projects for his friends. He loved working in his yard, family camping, and Scouting activities with his son. He especially enjoyed in most recent days spending time with his grandchildren.

For ten years DuWayne was a Red Coat Usher at the Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio.

DuWayne leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-two years Ruthlee Bertsch (nee: Baum); his son, David Wayne and his wife Stephanie Bertsch of Munroe Falls, Ohio; his daughter Pamela Kaye, her husband Cam Justice, and their children Sommer Grace, Colton James, and Savannah Rose of Plantation, Florida; and several nephews and nieces, including his nephew Craig L. Barnes of Gallipolis, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Mary Bertsch (nee: Smith), and his sisters Eileen Kopronica and Dorothy Barnes.

Friends may call Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church; 440 North Lake Street, Amherst. The Rev. David P. Chapman, pastor of Nottingham Baptist Church in Willoughby Hills, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Avon, Ohio.

ROSEMARY R. PHELPS, 66, 523 Fourth Ave., Sidney, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 4:20 A.M. at her residence.
She was born on October 21, 1942 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Adrian and Lola (Fishbaugh) Bertsch. On July 10, 1962 she married Terry L. Phelps and he survives.
She is also survived by a Daughter, Jennifer and husband Kevin Boyer of Sidney, one Son, Anthony (Tony) Phelps of Sidney, and a special adopted Daughter Mrs. Bob (Linda) Varno of Sidney. Grandchildren, Zachary, Zara, and Zoe Boyer, Stephanie and Ricky York all of Sidney. Ben and Jesse Phelps of Fort Knox, Kentucky. Two Great Grandchildren, Tristen and Isaac Phelps.
One Sister, Brenda Carey of Sidney, Three Brothers, Tom, Ron and Jimmy Bertsch all of Sidney, OH.

Rosemary retired in May of 2008 from Kroger's in Sidney where she worked as a Photo Lab Technician.
She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sidney.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 13 at 10:30 A.M. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., in Sidney with Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating.
Burial will be at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call Sunday, April 12 from 1-5 P.M. at Cromes Funeral Home.

John F. Bertsch

John F. Bertsch, 88, 2303 Armstrong Drive, Sidney, Ohio passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at 9:52 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 28, 1923, in Shelby County, Ohio the son of the late Frank and Mayme (Schiff) Bertsch.
On Nov. 5, 1943, he married Rosemary Johnson who preceded him in death on March 29, 1997.
He is survived by two children, John Bertsch Jr., of Sidney, OH and Lorrie Moniaci, of Columbus, OH; two grandsons, Matthew Bertsch and Joseph Moniaci; one great-granddaughter, Ana Beil; and two great-grandsons, Phillip Bertsch and Dane Moniaci.
One brother, Forest Wayne Bertsch preceded him in death.

John was a World War II, U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran and received EAME Service Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, Victory Medal and American Theater Service Medal.
He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217, the Wapakoneta Eagles and was a member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Anna, Ohio.
Mr. Bertsch was a retired machinery repairman for General Motors in Dayton, OHIO retiring in 1991.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Jacob Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Althauser officiating.
Burial will be at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave.
The Sidney American Legion Post 217 will have a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum P.O. Box 1992, Savanah, GA 31402. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

JOHN BERTSCH Dead

JOHN BERTSCH, saloonist, died last Wednesday night at 11:15, aged 40 years, 6 months, and 14 days. The funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church, Rev. Shank officiating, on Saturday.

Mr. Bertsch was married to Miss Margaret Rupert in 1872, and there were born unto them 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls, all of whom survive him.

Mr. Bertsch first began ailing in September during our reunion, at which time he contracted a cold, settling on his lungs. He constantly grew worse until 2 weeks ago.
Last Monday he went to bed, from which he never arose. The cause of death was pneumonia.

Janell E. Bertsch, 84, 1137 Fairmont Dr., Sidney, Ohio died at her residence on Friday, March 28, 2003.

She was born April 11, 1918 in Coldwater, Ohio (Mercer County) the daughter of Earl and Gertrude (Ballweg) Wooddell.
She was married in February of 1949 to Forest Bertsch and he died in 1975. Surviving are one daughter, Jan Bertsch of Sidney, Ohio; two brothers, John H. Wooddell of Sidney and Robert Wooddell of Tucson, Arizona.
One sister and three brothers are deceased.
She was a graduate of Northwestern Business College in Lima, Ohio and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Elks, VFW and the American Legion.
She was retired from the Shelby County Commissioners Office and also had been the director of the CETA program in Shelby County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney.
Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 from 4-8 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lehman High School or the Shelby County Meals on Wheels Program.

I am looking for a Bertsch male (DOB early 1860's), who married Rosa Matern (DOB 1863/1864), the daughter of Franz and Sophia Matern. Their marriage produced 2 children.

The 1880 census has her living with her Matern parents in LaSalle, IL.

By the 1900 census she is a widow, with 2 sons (DOB's 1887 and 1893), using her married name of Bertsch, living at Magnolia, Putnam Co, IL.

I don't have a first name for Mr. Bertsch, or when he died. Thank you in advance for any help that you might offer!!!

Rosa Matern remarried to my g.g.grandfather (Helgen), and I'd like more information on her first husband.

My grandfather's name is Henry Bertsch Jr., he was born in 1925, in Plum, Texas and is still living.

My g grandfather's name is Henry Bertsch Sr., he was born in 1899 and passed away in 1970, I am told.

I am thinking that my gg grandfather's name is John Bertsch and he was born in 1864. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Does anyone recognize any of these individuals or have any additional info they wouldn't mind sharing?

Haven't got a clue as to how to use this darn thing! Just happened upon it quite by mistake, but with a lot of
"go here - go there"! I've stuck it in favorites so I can locate it again.

Perhaps you have my married name imbedded in your Dad's old papers, or someone remembers where I lived, and you could call. I hesitate,!, to give any info out on computer! but hope we can exchange phone #'s eventually.

My Father, Lionel Francis Bertsch was your granddad's brother. We've met - years ago my boys and I were on a trip to S. California, 1981. Father had passed away in 1979. I noted that your Dad passed away January, last year.

Would dearly love to touch base with you, sister, and brothers. I tried reaching you this spring actually, at art school where you are/were affiliated. Even left message w/phone number. I have a few treasures of Grandpa's, L. L. Bertsch, that I feel should stay in family.

Hello my Great-gradfather is William Bertsch, son of christian Bertsch. He lived in Great Falls, MT. I know you wrote this message about 10 years ago, so you'll probably won't get it, but I hope it helps. Genealogical websites have come far in the last 10 years; what I've found out recently is that Christian's wife's last name is Kraft, not Krofft. The family lived in Poland, Ukraine, and Russia. Again there's much more information available. You can check census records from the U.S. and Canada to confirm.

Hello, he was my g-g-grandfather, had a daughter Elizabeth ("Lizzie") M. Birtch (b. 18 Dec 1878, d. 27 Feb 1938 both in St. Louis, MO). My Grandpa was unclear on the spelling of his name (Bertch vs. Birtch), also whether he was from Sweden or Switzerland.

One researcher found Jacob Birtch was b. 28 Feb 1835 in Germany, d. 26 Jun 1914 in St. Louis, MO. I don't have any sources to corroborate.

There was also a Jacob Birtch served in Union Army during Civil War. No idea whether he was same fellow, but despite age similarity, my guy was in and around St. Louis, MO, rather than NY.

I am looking for stefan bartsch later changed to bertsch born 1829 in switzerland died 1907 married to a maria nee hitz born in germany 1829.May have immigrated to the us late 1800s.Anton sounds familar but im new at this. I have an Anton Bertsch born around 1901 but no wife listed. His Father is listed as Hans bartsch born1866.Most of the information i have found is in german which i cant read. Alfred Bertsch and Drusilla Wise were my great grandfather and great grandmother. There tombstones are in the cemetery in Germantown, Indiana. ( http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&... )

I have a book for Henry A. Wise and Martha Wisller Family, as well as the Christian Bertsch book mentioned on this message board.

Thank you for the information, Jo Ann. No, I do not know Theda J. Brinker. I am wondering if the Hans Bertsch you write about is the same person as my Hanss Bertsch. My Hanss Bertsch had a daughter about 1627, and your Hans had a son about 1649. Of course, in those days, people did have children over a 20-year span; but then again your Hans could have been a son (or other relative) of my Hanss. How may I contact Theda, or perhaps you can ask her to write to me if you do not wish to give out her e-mail address. Many thanks.

Ref the Christian Bertsch Book Pub 1963 there is listed a John Ruhf b 1885 married to Mada Bertsch b 1881. Their children listed are Grace Ruhf b 1914, Edith Ruhf b 1918
This Mada Bertsch is the daughter of Oscar & Sallie Bertsch.
There are many misspellings in this book.
Grace Ruhf m Raymond Helfrich b 1912 their children Ernest b 1936 m Leona Ringer b 1936 their child Keith b 1960.
Edith Ruhf m Russel Kressley b 1917, their children 1)Robert b 1939 m Jane Keassley b 1941 their child Dale b 1962.
2) Ronald b 1943 m Shirley b 1941 their child carol b 1961

I have entered all the information from the Christian Bertsch Genealogy book pub 1963 in Family Tree Maker. I have 2 Alfred Bertschs one born in 1855 d 1937 m Alice Hiatt b 1864 d 1939 5 children LeRoy, Lula, Westa, Pearl, Rosie as the son of Reuben & Susanna
The other Alfred Bertsch b 1856 d 1939 m Drucilla Wise d 1930, 2 children Clinton b 1887 d 1952, Elmer b 1892.

Do you possibly know Theda J. Brinker? She is the person whom I found that had the Hans Bertsch information. Her husband was a pastor of a large church in York, PA. I believe she lives in Allentown.

It is this Christian Bertsch (5) that I can claim as an ancestor.

My husband and I live in Florida. We visit Delaware once or twice a year to see our grandchildren.

Are we talking about the same Hanss Bertsch? Mine was probably born in the early 1600s or late 1500s. If Christian was a descendant of this Hanss Bertsch, then I will look to see what copies of documents I have on this individual. His daughter was married and died in Kürnbach. Many years ago, I did extensive research using the microfilmed Kürnbach parish records, and CDs from the LDS. I probably got his name off of the marriage record, or possibly the death record. I started researching another very large line, and I discontinued researching the Bertsch line at that time. I will have to take a look at my records to see what I have.

All who responded to this. Troy did send electronic images to me...and they were great! I can post them to Picasso and then share them with whomever is interested. As a direct decendant of Alfred and Drusilla, I find it facinating to have something like this show up in an antique shop in Pennsylvania. I had asked Troy if there were more pictures but haven't heard from him.

This church was founded in 1822 and is located in the town of Pershing (otherwise known as East Germantown) Indiana, in Wayne County near Cambridge City.

I'm related to her.. probably by marriage. I need to go back to that church and spend a day or so just following my family tree around.

We (my immediate family) call that church 'The Bertsch Church'. Zions Lutheran Church.
