Classification: Query
Surnames: Besaw Bisson
The name appears to have evolved into variations of the English phonetic spelling of the French pronunciation. Bisson, in French, sounds kind of like Be-Saw in Engish. It also appears that once they crossed the Quebec border into the U.S., their names were recorded on documents by English speakers versus those who were familiar with the French name and French in general. The fact the illiteracy was high back then, it seems that the people whose names were being recorded were not in a position to spell their name or make corrections.
