wrong sophronios Bishara. Bishop Sophronios father was an orthodox priest Father philimon. The priest was my grandmothers uncle and the bishop was her first cousin. he died in 1940 in NY. They were from broumanna Lebanon. although his immigration papers might have said syria because it was before lebanon got their independence. This bishop came to my grandmothers house and babptised all 5 of her children. he visited a lot before he died. We have a huge picture of him in our living room. The family name was BATROUNI not beshara or bishara.

I don't know if it will help, but there is info about Sophronius Bishara† from New York, NY, at http://abp-victor.tripod.com/V_lines_ru.htm

He was married on 29 April 1933. It also says:
"Here is the correct information from Bishara's death certificate: he died at the age of 28 from tuberculosis and pneumonia, making his birth year in 1906 in Syria; his given name was not Sophronios; he was in the United States since 1922 at the age of about 16; his mother's name was Zahia Okey; his father's name was Charles; his profession was "Clerk"; and he was buried on 9/22/1934, three days after dying. It is also in keeping with the tradition of the time that Bishara used Sophronius as a Church name which was not his birth name."

Sadly there's also information about Thomas Beshara of Quispamsis, NB, husband of Anne (Byers) Beshara, who died when he was only 55 years old. Besides his parents, Peter G. and Lois (Ferris) Beshara, Tom was predeceased by three sisters, Linda Beckingham, Sharon Beshara, Diana “Dee Dee” Beshara and two brothers, David and Charles Beshara. I don't know if you are still interested in information but my grandfather's name was Joesph Beshara and he lived in Deadwood, SD all his life. He passed away before I was born so I never met him but my dad, Larry tells me stories about him. His wife's name was Ethel and both of them served in World War 2. I was always told that our herritage was Leboneese. My name is Trista Beshara and I live in Sioux Falls, SD. I hope some of this information is helpful to you.

I have the info U are looking for re the Beshara family decendants of George Joseph Beshara and his many children. I am married to one of his granddaughters. Also the name Beshara was not the family name originally but Essa as U noted. His name was George Beshara Essa. And most likely the true spelling is Bishara. On immigrating to Canada and not knowing the language ended with the last name becoming Beshara. A brother of this George Joseph went to Yarmouth Nova Scotia and carried the spelling Bishara. There are many of that name in Yarmouth. And many using the name Beshara in Saint John, New Brunswick.

I would truly love to exchange some information with U on this side of the family. I am married to one of daughters of Edward (a brother to Louis). The family never mentioned Louis as it was seen as a scandal that he married an african american canadian. Thus there is not much info. I have some genealogy on all the other brothers, sisters, etc and would love to trade info.

In my info of Beshara family of Saint John I have a Peter Beshara born Dec 1900 a son of George. Is this the same Peter who is your grandfather ??? I have no info on Peter and would love to complete this side of the family. I am married to one of the Beshara girls from Saint John

I am the (third) wife of Douglas James Beshara, born 21st of May 1940, second generation lebanese; He his the son of Joseph Louis BESHARA, BORN BEG. OF THE 20TH CENTURY in the winter time (november/december), IN ST.jOHN N.B.first generation lebanese, son of George (???)BESHARA (???)
Joseph Louis BESHARA was married to an african-american canadian, called Inez EDISON (St.John, N.B.) they had 4-5 children:
1) louis Beshara (lives in Bowmaville, ONT. born 1039
2) douglas james born 1950
3) one duaghter called Valérie (still in St.John) if not passed away
4) a brother called Gregory (lived in Québec ?)

from a second marriage, with a women whom ethinicity was white (british descent) Joseph Luis had some other children (3?) and moved to live in Alberta (CAN)

Douglas J.Beshara has 3 children with his second wife, family name WHEATCROFT,none with his first and one with me.
Douglas James BESHARA had fathered also 2 previous children,
one born out of wedlock in 1964 in St.John, N.B.(a girl, the mother gave her into adoption) and one in 1966, a boy born in Nova Scotia (?)out of wedlock too.
Douglas James Beshara lived an extense period of his life (from the 60ies) in Ontario, Toronto area and in the U.K. Brighton.

The parents of these children are George and Emily Hunt of Farmington England
