wrong sophronios Bishara. Bishop Sophronios father was an orthodox priest Father philimon. The priest was my grandmothers uncle and the bishop was her first cousin. he died in 1940 in NY. They were from broumanna Lebanon. although his immigration papers might have said syria because it was before lebanon got their independence. This bishop came to my grandmothers house and babptised all 5 of her children. he visited a lot before he died. We have a huge picture of him in our living room. The family name was BATROUNI not beshara or bishara.

Hi,
I tried to email you at the address you gave however it wouldn't go through, so I'm posting this for you.

I don't know if it will help, but there is info about Sophronius Bishara† from New York, NY, at http://abp-victor.tripod.com/V_lines_ru.htm

He was married on 29 April 1933. It also says:
"Here is the correct information from Bishara's death certificate: he died at the age of 28 from tuberculosis and pneumonia, making his birth year in 1906 in Syria; his given name was not Sophronios; he was in the United States since 1922 at the age of about 16; his mother's name was Zahia Okey; his father's name was Charles; his profession was "Clerk"; and he was buried on 9/22/1934, three days after dying. It is also in keeping with the tradition of the time that Bishara used Sophronius as a Church name which was not his birth name."

Hi Bunny,
There appear to be a number of living relatives named at: http://www.reidsfh.com/obits/obituary.php?id=66626

Ruth Beshara (George) of Gondola Point, and Patsy Beshara (Ronnie) of Gondola Point, are also mentioned at: http://www.fundyfuneralhome.com/obits/obituary.php?act=enter...

Sadly there's also information about Thomas Beshara of Quispamsis, NB, husband of Anne (Byers) Beshara, who died when he was only 55 years old. Besides his parents, Peter G. and Lois (Ferris) Beshara, Tom was predeceased by three sisters, Linda Beckingham, Sharon Beshara, Diana “Dee Dee” Beshara and two brothers, David and Charles Beshara. See http://www.inmemoriam.ca/view-announcement-245273-thomas-bes... . Perhaps you can try locating some of his living relatives to see what the medical issues were.

I hope that helps,
...a Beshara from Ontario :)

I don't know if you are still interested in information but my grandfather's name was Joesph Beshara and he lived in Deadwood, SD all his life. He passed away before I was born so I never met him but my dad, Larry tells me stories about him. His wife's name was Ethel and both of them served in World War 2. I was always told that our herritage was Leboneese. My name is Trista Beshara and I live in Sioux Falls, SD. I hope some of this information is helpful to you.

I have the info U are looking for re the Beshara family decendants of George Joseph Beshara and his many children. I am married to one of his granddaughters. Also the name Beshara was not the family name originally but Essa as U noted. His name was George Beshara Essa. And most likely the true spelling is Bishara. On immigrating to Canada and not knowing the language ended with the last name becoming Beshara. A brother of this George Joseph went to Yarmouth Nova Scotia and carried the spelling Bishara. There are many of that name in Yarmouth. And many using the name Beshara in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Please feel free to drop a note to me at my personal email at lauriescamera@gmail.com
All the best in your searches.

I would truly love to exchange some information with U on this side of the family. I am married to one of daughters of Edward (a brother to Louis). The family never mentioned Louis as it was seen as a scandal that he married an african american canadian. Thus there is not much info. I have some genealogy on all the other brothers, sisters, etc and would love to trade info.
Please email me at lauriescamera@gmail.com so I can include attachments of family tree info.
Laurie

How did you find so much information? Edward Beshara and Mary Elizabeth Beshara (Hunt) were my grandparents! Edward died in September 1971, 2 months after I was born but I know that he had a brother in Saint John that I met once as a small child. Mary passed away a couple of years ago. They had 10 children, my mother being the youngest. Are you just a history buff or a relative I dont know about? I'm trying to trace my family but not having much luck. I did find the enlistment papers for Edward dated October 1915 but that was it. Do you have more information regarding this line?

My mom married into the Thibodeau family, her maiden name is Beshara. Where did you get the info on the Beshara family? Do you have a lot of info on the Hunts? I would love to know more about my family history but I'm afraid that I just don't know where to begin. I got Edward's enlistment papers off the net but that's all I could find. Any advice? My grandparents have both passed away and my uncles and aunts don't seem to have a lot of information to share with me. I learned more from your posting than I ever knew before : )

Joseph - I am very well informed about the Beshara's from Saint John as I married one of the daughters. I have been trying to also fill in some gaps about the Joe, dave, etc Bishara's who live in Yarmouth. Yarmouth is also the birthplace of my own father.
I would be most willing to correspond directly with you rather than via this message board system. Email me direct at russellb@nbnet.nb.ca or at work at Laurie.Blanchard@rvh.nb.ca
I am also anxious to hear what happened to Karen Bishara one of my former x-ray tech students when I was at the VGH in Halifax - Now living in Fredericton, N.B.
Please drop a note - I will reply quickly
Laurie

My name is Joe Bishara. I am second generation Canadian born Lebanese living in Yarmouth, N.S.. I believe the George Bishara you are talking about may be my great-great Ghedi (grandfather). I have a copy of his obituary. I know my family first landed in St. John N.B.around the turn of the century. Are you interested in corresponding?
I'm glad someone remembers that Edward lied about his age. It saves a lot of wondering.
I am not (as far as I know) connected to the Beshara's or the Hunts. I was helping one of your cousins on the Hunt family, and on James Isaac Hunt's death certificate, the informant was Mrs. Edw. J. Beshara, his daughter. Following that lead led me to the family, and checking this board led me to your daughter. The Thibodeau's might be very distant cousins, there being some Acadians floating around; the Savoie's for example; but you have to go back quite a way for that, and the relationship would be largely by marriage.

Thomas

I am attempting to document the life of Bishop Sophronios Beshara. This is very difficult since his name is spelled in various ways including Bishara and Bashara. In a 1932 N.Y.
