Re: James Anderson Beshears/Milly Frances Roberts/MO

I have been researching the hints from Elizabeth Beshears Mills deposition. She mentions knowing Tom Kennedy my uncle Jim Fletcher... I am persuaded that Jim Fletcher was her uncle while she mentioned Tom Kennedy as a well known person of Madisonville. Tom Kennedy was a wealthy land owner who owned many slaves and horses, loved to gamble, was a character who's history includes Indian battles and rumor to have been rather brutal in his pursuit of Indians and quick tempered, may have killed others in duels, etc...he's akin to a "notable" person of the area. She may have mentioned him like I might mention a celebrity who was from my area. Elizabeth goes on to say "my uncle Jim Fletcher..." and "Garrard County...I grew up there..." There is a James Fletcher who lived in Garrard County. In his will, he mentions a brother Thomas. I have not yet discovered who his father was to pursue the Fletcher history. Additionally, it is known that Wilson Beshears family moved to Adair and Russell Co KY after the death of Phillip Beshears. there are Fletchers also in those counties as well as Fletchers in Cumberland county--where Elizabeth and her mother went to visit cousins when Elizabeth ran off with Caswell Mills in 1845. I do not know the Asberry connection yet. In James A Beshears civil was discharge, he lists his place of birth as Decatur County Indiana. So, what we can determine thus far is that in 1830, they may have lived in Marion Co. TN. By 1840, they are not in the TN census. In 1835, they were living in Decatur Indiana. For Elizabeth to have known either Tom Kennedy or James Fletcher, she would have had to be in KY by 1836--as both men died that year. No record has been located yet. I am looking for the Fletcher documents to see if there is a connection....any ideas?

Re: Leroy Beshears

Paula,

I really hope you can help me. Although, I dont have much information to go on and what I do have is estimates. I believe the original poster to be recently deceased (MO resident) and what a heartbreak to find this now after many many years of searching.

I am looking for a Roy Beshears. I am guessing Roy to be short for LeRoy and also guessing on the last name spelling, as there are so many different ways to spell it. This man was in Wadsworth Veterans Hospital mid 1951. He would have been born, I am guessing, 1922-1935?

Let me explain...My grandmother who was born in 1932 was an employee of some sort at this hospital. There she met and fell in love with a Roy Beshears (again, spelling). They were to be married and one day Roy went downtown for something and never returned. Later she got word that he had tried to jump and train and was killed. At some point, either before or after his "death" she found out she was pregnant with my mother. My mother was born 6-15-52, so she would have gotten pregnant 8 or 9 of 1951. I dont know how long they were in a "relationship" but I am assuming it was short lived.

Now, I dont know facts as she is VERY quiet on this and will not speak about it except to say what I have told you. I know nothing more than I have told you and grandma is now suffering from dementia and will never know more than this, unless I can find him or a descendant who can verify that time spent at Wadsworth. That is my only hope, finding someone who can say yes, Roy was at Wadsworth or in Leavenworth Kansas during that period of time.

According to my grandmother, he was not an amputee nor had any disfiguring injuries. She does not recall why he was a patient at this hospital.

I have been searching for over 10 years now and no luck so far. Sometimes I think my grandmother is making this all up to cover something she doesnt want anyone to know about.

I am not searching for any particular reason, just to find someone. I want nothing from anyone. This is just for genealogical purposes and to satisfy my curiosity.

Thank You,
Teresa

I have a David & Martha ( Brashears ) Morrow moved from Guilford Co, N C to Mecklenburg Co, NC where he died leaving a will in 1810 . Davids will names his children but does not name his wife . Martha's will was probated abt 20 years later and gives the names of the same children and some grandchildren . Davids will gave Ann's name as Ann Crockett , while Martha's will gave her name as Ann McCollough . Ann apparently married twice . The exectors of Davids will were Benjamin Weathers&Lemuel Bigham . Martha named James Gordon and Aaron Houston as the executors of her will .Children of David & Martha Brashears Morrow ( from the will )
1. James Morrow
2. David Morrow
3. Margery Morrow m. ------ Hegans
4. Ann Morrow m(1) ----- Crockett m(2) ---- McCollough
5. Martha Morrow m. Elias Crockett .

I show Martha Brashears Morrow b. c. 1754 Guilford Co, . N C

Dear Patsy,
We just had our first Beshears family reunion in August 2007. We went to Virginia since that where they spent so much time. We had a great time in Williamsburg (so much to do).
All my distant cousins on my dad's side helped to research so we'd have plenty to share with everyone at the reunion.
I see what I can dig up for your also. Good luck.
Mauree

Maureen: Thank you! Nancy Beshears mar Kelley Sartain in 1816 in Wilkes Co NC, and by 1830 they were in VA, 1840 in KY and then by 1850 in MO. They made the same track basically that Robert and Elizabeth Beshears made and that is why I was wondering if Nancy could be one of their unknown daughters. Nancy and Kelley Sartain/Sartin eventually settled in Greene and Webster County MO. Nancy was b in VA about 1800. I certainly appreciate your help and will keep chasing this family down to see if it connects. Patsy

I have looked up the family of Robert Beshears and Elizabeth Whitton in Vol. 2 of Charles Brashear's book. On page 20 index v2 1882 shows a daughter born in 1804. There is a son v2 1881 (no name) Beshears b. 1830 (16-26 in 1820 census); and then 1884 Elijah b. 1830 KY, v2 1885 dau Beshears b. 1811; 1886 James W. b. 1812 (my ancestor); 1887 Judge William Basil b. 1814; 1888 Robert Anderson b. 1815; 18889 Jackson "John" Beshears b. 1818; 1890 dau b. 1820.

It would appear from the census records that there are two daughters and two sons who are unaccounted for by name because no family member tracked them previously and also because the US census prior to 1850 did not use individual names only head of household.

I can give you some information that I know to see if your information fits this family. Robert and Elizabeth were married around 1800 (no confirmation or record). They moved from Henry County, Va to Nelson County, KY around 1810; then they moved to Bath County KY 1820. Their children were born either in Bourbon County, KY or Montgomery County KY. If you look on a current County map of KY you will see that the areas are fairly close distance wise. The family (a large family clan) then migrated to Pike Co. MO in 1833 according to a story published in The History of Missouri about Judge William Basil Beshears. I find this interesting because Lewis and Clark went into MO in 1803 (only 30 years prior). The family remained within Northeastern MO in either Pike, Ralls, Jasper or Audrain Counties as the area developed.

It may be possible that you are descended from dau Beshears b. 1804 (or so). What have you found to date?

Maureen Beshears

I am searching for the parents of Nancy Beshears and think that it is possible Robert and Elizabeth are her parents. They are in MO about the same time she was. Nancy was born in 1800 VA. Later she moved to KY and then to MO. Do you know if your Robert had a dau named Nancy b 1800 in VA?

I have researched James Anderson Beshears. He is a second cousin to my GGG Grandfather. I am not sure who his father was. He does have a sister, Elizabeth Beshears, who married Caswell Mills in 1845 and moved to AR. I found her depositions for a Union Civil War Widows Pension in the National Archives. I do have copies. She did have a daughter, with the last name Mills. Off hand, I don't remember the first name. According to the documents, they appeared to be somewhat estranged.

Maureen

Thomas Beshears

I'm looking for information on the birth and death dates and descendants of Thomas Beshears and Sarah "Sally" Killebrew. In the 1850 Hopkins Co., KY census I found listed for Thomas the following: Rebecca, Jemima, Thomas, Isaac, Elizabeth, and James. He was not listed with a wife so I'm guessing that she died before Aug 29, 1850, the date of the census.

I believe Thomas married again and had one child, Lidia G. Beshears. His second wife has been listed as Sarah Howell.

I've also seen a child Sarah Jane Beshears listed as a child of Thomas and Sarah Killebrew. She was born Jan 4, 1850 but was not listed on the 1850 census.

Thanks for any help.

Patricia Max
