This is what I have discovered about Prof. G. Bessi:
Born 1857 at Volterra, Italy. Died 1922. Both parents were also artist.
He frequented the Academy of the Beautiful Arts in Florence. He returned to Volterra and opened a laboratory of Sculpture. He became know as "The Master" and the name synominus of his ability of Sculpturing.
For some time until 1910, he was the director of the School of Art of San Francisco influencing several manufacturing in San Francisco. [In my opinion only- perhaps this is how there became so many out there- mass manifactured]
It was written of him "...that the two qualities of an artist and businessman made up the personality of Bessi fulfilling and becomeing one thing. In the middle of the crisis after the War he was depositary of the progress of the art of sculptary of the progress of the art of sculpturing alabaster..." The article went on a bit more. I am unable to read the last part -as it got cut off. If I can find it again I'll post it.
