Samuel Bestward and family.

I need help. here's where I am, Samuel Bestward married Jane Kelly, both from Bruce County. They had a whack of kids, one of whom was also Samuel who married Mary Ellen Muir. Muirs are apparently from Pennsylvania at some point. Anyway Sam and Mary Ellen had five children, Lorne, Stanley, Rita, Ida and Ethel. Sam and Mary died around 1819 and children were scattered to various friends and families. For some time they were at the Rouse's in Wiarton (cousins), and Ida eventually was raised by Helen and John McKenzie of Chatsworth. Stanley died around age 24. Lorne lived in Hanover, Rita in Wiarton, Ida in Chatsworth (she married Joseph Pringle). Ethel was a baby when parents died and ended up without her siblings. For years no-one could find her, until her brother and sisters put an ad in all Ontario papers to locate her. Does any of this ring any bells with anybody? Would really like to know more, Ida was my grandmother.

Hi, I am also tracing my roots I have some info on Susan and Robert Bartley am willing to share. I am also looking for info on James and John Barley, could be Barclay, they were Robert's brothers who came from Glasgow, Scotland. I hope this is helpful. Please e-mail me at:

I am trying to trace the Family of Charles Lawrence or Lawrence Charles Bestward son of John Bestward (farmer)and Martha Bennell born August 15th 1900 in the Township of Lindsay, County of Bruce, Ontario. I believe he had a sister Annie. He enlisted in the 229th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force at Melville Sask. in January 1916. After his discharge he married my mother in England. I would appreciate any leads.

Susan Bestward, born Feb 1861 in Euphrasia Township, married Robert Bartley, born Dec 1853, married about 1878. She and Robert lived in the Lindsay Township, Bruce, ON with their 13 children.
I would like to update their descendants.

I was wondering if you have any info on a Susan Bestward who married Robert Bartley. I have her as being born abt. 1869 in Euphrasia township , Grey county. Her parents were William and Sarah Bestward.

I've been looking at Bruce Co. birth registrations for 1893/94/95 and noticed quite a few Bestwards. I have an Annie Bestward m. to George James Noble in my family tree.

For some strange reason I have been unable to find information on my last name of "Bestward". I was born in 1956 in Meaford, Ontario. My biological father's name is "Lloyd" and my mother's name is "Winnifred". I have been told that most of my family is from the Meaford and Lion's Head which is of course in Ontario, Canada. Anyone that can help please email me and I thank you in advance!!!!!!
