      <description>I heard of this story growing up but never paid much attention since my grandfather was a jokester at times.  My g-grandfather's name was Antonio Betancourt-Cortes from Puerto Rico and his family was mentioned to be wealthy and famous.  My grandfather and ggrandfather had a fallen out and only spoke once since then.  Would love to know if we are related.. :-) </description>

      <description>OK, the Betancourts are originally from France...Normandy, I read somewhere some time ago. I kept a copy of the message and will get back to you. My dad's mother was a Betancourt and his family came from Guerreo, Tamaulipas,Mexico and Agualeguas (that's in Nuevo Leon I think) Anyway ,her name was Eva Betancourt and her father was Jose Angel Betancourt.  Her mother was Dionisia Rodriguez. I have found much about the Rodriguez side but nothing about the Betancourts. If anyone can help me, please do.</description>

      <description>There are thousands of Betancourt in the world and you expect us to figure out which one is yours?  I'm not trying to be nasty but point out the obvious.  Betancourt name exists in many countries.  You haven't told us where your father's family is from...even a general place like Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, some South American country, Spain, France, the USA, the lists goes on and on.  If you seriously want to find any possible family then you need to supply information that will enable us to help you find who you are looking for.</description>

      <description>Yes the Betancourt line does come from Spain.  You can find many of the Betancourt coming from the Canary Islands. There is a website that is dedicated to Cuban ancestry and it has a database with names of people from Cuba on ships.  Until the embargo is completely lifted, there is no way you'll be able to see church records from Cuba.  I recommend that you research the website.       <description>Hi.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I have not come across your grandmother's name in my research, but I have a few suggestions:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;1 - Do you know when she left Puerto Rico and where the family moved to? If so, you could try census records to find her as a young girl, hopefully living with her parents. I couldn't find her in the quick search I did just now, but you might have better luck if you know her middle name (very common for people to be listed by their middle name) or, especially, if you know her second (maternal) last name.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;2 - You say she had many siblings. If you know their names, try looking for them in the census records. Even if you do not subscribe to ancestry.com, do the census search. You will get a list of "hits", which will tell you the name found and, more importantly, the town. Once you have the name of the town, you can try #4, below.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;3 - Try to find the baptismal record(s) of your parent and/or aunts and uncles, if you know where any of them were born. Assuming your grandmother was Catholic, these records would be very helpful. Catholic Church baptismal records show not only the parents' names and birthplace, but often the names and birthplace of the child's grandparents. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;4 - If, either by finding your grandmother or one of her siblings in a P.R. census record, or by finding the info in Catholic Church baptismal records, or even by asking your relatives, you are able to figure out where you grandmother was born, or where she lived in Puerto Rico, you could then go online and look up that town's birth, marriage, baptism, and death records at familysearch.org - the images for these records for Puerto Rico are available free, online. But you need to know the town. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;5 - If you have a LOT (and I do mean a LOT) of time on your hands, and a LOT of patience, and you REALLY want to find your grandmother, you could always go to familysearch.org and just start pulling up the birth and/or baptism records, town by town, looking until you find her (or her siblings.) But I strongly suggest trying to narrow it down to a specific town, or at least a general area encompassing a few neighboring towns, before beginning.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Good luck!</description>

      <description>I'm looking for anyone that might have information on my ancestors who were from Cuba and Spain that may have married into the Betancourt family. I haven't made a clear connection yet but I believe my ancestor's brother Baltazar may have married a woman named Cela and her mother's surname was listed as Betancourt on the 1920 Census I found in Tampa, FL. I know my direct ancestor, Baltazar's brother Louis Garcia, lived in Tampa with his wife Louisa and their children. According to my information, Baltazar was born 1879 in Cuba and he immigrated in 1897. I have reason to believe at least one of Baltazar's parents were from Spain, probably his father, but I don't know exactly where from in Spain. Please let me know if this matches anything you have. I would greatly appreciate the help!</description>

      <description>You might already have this information, but I just found a third marriage among the Mujica de la Cruz and Betancourt Montañez siblings.  Antonio Betancourt Montañez married Pilar Mujica de la Cruz. They had, that I know of, 3 children: Jose Dolores, Dolores Mercedes, and Juan Benigno.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;So that's 2 brothers and a sister (Antonio, Raymundo and Juana) married to 2 sisters and a brother (Pilar, Fabiana, and Manuel). &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Oh, and I found a death record for Bautista Mujica Betancourt, son of Manuel and Juana, died in Canovanas 16 Oct 1947. His widow's name was Vicenta Carrasquillo.</description>
