Josephs name is the first entry in our family Bible. It says that "Joseph Betley left home for London on the 6th of October Monday. set sail for New Zealand on the 8 of October Wednesday 1884 landed on the....."
That is it!!
no date of arrival.
My father searched the records of arrivals in NZ and departures from UK but with no result. Can anyone help??

Thee dates that you are showing, are about the approximate dates that I have for my grandfather. Did your Johne Betley die in Mpls.,Minnesota in an apartment fire?

I am sorry to say that I know of no Martin in the family. But they might have been related. My grandfather John passed away in Minneapolis Minnesota. Good luck on your quest.

I am interested in your 12 Betley siblings. I have a John & Martin Betlejewski that had supposedly about 12 siblings. I know very little about them as family will not talk about them. I know family came from Poland but don't know when. Name has changed within the generations born here in the states (Betlee, Betley, Bedney, Betliskey, Bentley). Dates on John 1889-1967, & Martin 1894-1964. Both also died in Ohio.

I am related to a Stanley Betley who lived in New Bedford Mass. His brother George was my great-grandfather. We have an obit from George mentioning him but am assuming they were distant as we have never met relatives from there. I believe Stanley may have passed in 1967, George died around 1956 in Sobieski Wisconsin. Looking for any help out there.

I am a Betley living just outside Stourbridge in the West Midlands in England. I am 20 and would really like to start looking into my family tree when I get the time. My dad is John Betley and has two sisters Margaret and Doreen. His mother is Mary Betley and his father was a George Henry Betley. Unfortunately my dad and nan don't like talking much about their family history so any info will have to come off my own back later in life.

My mothers side is Betley that moved to wisconsin - sobieski a small town in oconto county. They moved here from chicago and I believed owned a small grocery store there. Granfather was Stanley Betley and had brothers John, Felix, others, sister Anna. Granmother (Mary)was a wigerzen (spelling not sure) who immagrated from poland. Grandfather born here and not sure when the first came here. any similarities. the y was added instead of the j because in polish j is pronownced y. to eliminate confusion the polish always did this.I remember grandfather talking of relatives serving in German army - Polish Austrian backgroung.

My grandfather was Joseph Betley, who had ties to Chicago. Although I don't know what they were. He could have been born there. He had all his children in Barron, Wisconsin, but after leaving my grandmother many tomes also spent much time in Mpls.,Mn., where I was born. There was a name change in my family also, but I was told when I was very young that it was from Betlinski or Betelinski. He died in an apartment fire in Mpls.Mn. in 1963. I know not very much else about him or our heritage. He was married to Bernice Busc? spelling?, who was also Polish.

My husband's name is Betley. We always were looking for our English (Irish?) connections but our family records reach back only to Jan Betley, baptized in 1778, son of Marcin (Martin?) Betley and Katarzyna z Watrobskich. He was born in Jaslo, in 1808 moved to Warszawa (Warsow in Poland). If this message applies to your family research, please let me know. Monika.

I have recently uncovered more information on the Betleys of Chicago. According to a 1941 obituary, Jozefa Betley had 4 surviving children: Andrew (married to a Maria), Alojzy (roughly Anglocized to Alex) (who married a Stefania), Anna, (who married Andrerw Jerzyk), and Maria (who married Kazimierz Rozycki).

An interesting thought you pose. My cousins and I constantly see reference in our notes to Betley also spelled as Betlej. I never could figure out why. I believe my great grandfather (John Betley) was born in the Polish part of Austria and was naturalized in 1891. I haven't been able to find any info on him to-date.

This does not apply to the Betleys that I am looking for, however, because the father of this line, John, was an Irishman who married a woman, Jozefa, in Poland.

Name changes are something that every genealogist should keep in mind. Thank you for reminding us of that fact!!!

I know that some of the Betleys in Chicago were Betlejewskis and just shortened their last name. My sister-in-law was in contact with a man from Chicago who told her just that, that his family had changed their name from Betlejewski to Betley.

My Great Grandfather is John Betley (1868-1938). He married Mary Yankowski (born in Austria) in Nanticike, PA. They had 4 children; Rose, Blanche, Anna Julia. Anna Betley married Josef Laska (my Grandfather) in 1914 in Adams, MA.

Henry H. Heine is my Grandfather. My fathers name is Arthur Wesley Heine. I am searching my families history. When I entered his name your message came up. Henry Heine also had 4 other children. Their names are: Ruth Elizabeth Heine, Lilliam Gertrude Heine, Harry Leroy Heine, and George Henry Heine. All have died but my father, Arthur and Harry Leory (Roy).

Please E Mail me if you think there may be any connection. In the family Bible that I have Henry H. Heine was from New York. What city it does not give. His first wife was Nettie M. Dasch of Baltimore, Maryland. His second wife, who is my fathers mother, is Pearl Heine, (maiden name Grey or Gray) They only had one child, my father Arthur Wesley Heien, as far as I know.

I am just getting into my Betley line. Really do not know much. My grandfather I believe somehow had roots in Illinois. His name was Joseph Betley. I believe he was born in Feb.,1888, Died Nov.,1963. There are ties on my side to Wisconsin.

My GGM was Kristina Bettle/Betley. She was from either Germany or Smerek, Galicia. She married my GGF, Mike Nedwid/Nedvid/Medvid etc. in supposedly Clearfield county, Pa. They came to America sometime before 1900. Mike died in Indiana, Pa. and Kristina died in Cleveland, Ohio. From what I know, she had a brother, Heine/Henry and a sister Catherine that married a Steininger and moved to Gross Pointe, Michigan. Any connections?
