Dear Kenneth:

I too am a member of the Betsill family through my grandmother, Minnie Betsill. I have accumulated a decent amount of information about the Betsill's from Fayette Co., GA - and have some information for you that should be very helpful! In the book, "The History of Fayette County 1821-1971" published by the Fayette County Historical Society, Inc. 1977, on page 543, it has a couple of paragraphs on the Bestills - and specifically talks about Annie Bell and her family. Her father is listed as "Webb" Betsill, and his wife was Lula Ellison. They are said to have lived all of their lives in Cross Roads (probably now one of the smaller towns in GA - maybe Senoia?) Anyway, it also says that Webb's father was Lemuel Betsill and his mother was Elizabeth. 'Webb' was one of three children - Leonia, Webb, and Mary. Lemuel's father was Linton (called Lemuel) Betsill. Linton's father was Turner J. Betsill (born Aug. 1825 in Fayette Co., GA, married Aug. 24, 1845) and his mother was Louisa L. Williams (born Nov. 8, 1823 in Burmingham, AL, died Aug. 8, 1869, and is also buried in the Betsill Cemetery). Turner J.'s father was Godfrey Betsill, Jr. (who died in 1861 and is buried in the Betsill Cemetery, south of Turner Road in Clayton Co., GA) and his mother was Sarah - born in Virginia. Godfrey's father was Godfrey Betsill, Sr. Back then, the name was often spelled Bedsil, Bedsyl, or Betsil, so you might want to check those spellings as well. Webb's children are listed as: Annie Bell, Willie, Dan, Fannie, Alma, Tony, Stellie, Lula Man, and Herman -and it says that most of them settled around Cross Roads - so it's a good bet that some are still in Fayette County - Fayetteville, Peachtree City, or Senoia, GA. The Fayette Co. Historical Society Research Center is located at 195 Lee Street, Fayetteville, GA and is open Tues. 6-9p.m., Thurs. 10a.m.-1p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m.-1p.m. You can call 770-716-6020 and see if anyone can help you with questions - or check their web site @ www.HistoryFayetteCoGA.org or e-mail them @ FayHistSoc@aol.com. I hope that this information helps you in your search!! Now, if you find out anything else, don't forget to e-mail me with anything new!! My e-mail address is: MITarrant30@aol.com or Mt7704vd3@cs.com. Happy Hunting!
